So they're back soon, and they're must win for England.

Of course the headlines at the moment is Terry has been handed the captancy FULL-TIME again. Madness. I can see his reasoning, but it's very poor. I do wonder how much it will upset the dressing room...

It's much more important for Scotland IMO.. we always seem to recieve difficult groups :(

So the media get their own way again with Terry.

It's little wonder I've given up watching England now. Come on Wales!

I just don't care about England whatsoever, really hate International weekends. The only time I really care is during the tournaments, and even then I don't care if England get knocked out!

Why is the WWE thread the only one that is actually alive in here ? :(

Gareth Bale is out of the match. It should be a pretty easy win on paper for England, but knowing the team.. that probably won't be the case

The England team can count on my continued lack of support. The media build them up with emotive headlines, whenever there is a tournament we suddenly have a divine right to qualify and actually win the tournament. It pretty well sums up the reason for my lack of support, plus they interfere with the league season.

Yes, my flag which is nostalgic as I went to university in Wales now has a double reason for being there. :D

I will be hoping Wales win.

Even though I am by birth English and was educated in England I can't identify with the national team, too many people of dubious character wearing the shirt - Rooney, Gerrard, Terry, Cole, Wilshire, Carroll - all of them have acted disgracefully off the field and are poor role models.

Whereas Craig Bellamy wouldn't hurt a fly.

That is 1 player.

I forgot Frank Lampard too (drunken gloating about 9/11 at a Heathrow hotel packed with Americans)

So we have :

Rooney - Serial adulterer

Ferdinand - Banned for drugs

Gerrard - Beating up a DJ

Terry - Serial adulterer

Cole - Serial adulterer

Wilshire - Regular pub brawls

Carroll - Beat up 2 women and his club captain

Lampard - Insulting American tourists after 9/11

No one expects every footballer to be faultless but to have 8 unsavoury characters in the same team takes some doing.

No football players are saints. You mix alcohol with anyone and it brings the worst out of people - especially people in the public eye. I am no huge England fan, and our current team at the moment is pretty average (although there are some brilliant players coming through) but in this country the media is obsessed with England. They always want us lose. Also if you're adding people who've been 'discraced' don't forget Ashley Young (webcam sex) and Glen Johnson (stealing from B&Q).

The team England have put out today is pretty good. Club >>> Country always however.

I'm off to the pub in a while......... to play darts in a pub that doesn't have sky  Wonder how dead it'll be in there haha.
It's because they all played yesterday and are still in the Champions League. He knows all about them and doesn't need them for a friendly, it'll give him a chance to look at players such as Jarvis, Carroll and Cahill.

Take any eight men off the street and give them £100,000 a week to kick a ball around and I think they'd most likely act similarly. It's nothing about this particular group of players.

I don't expect everyone to be football mad and cheer the team wherever they go but I do find people who go out of their way to hope their national team lose a bit of a sad case - in any sport, not just football.

Not sure I understand the reasoning behind this, but 5 players including Terry have been released to return to their clubs for the friendly with Ghana. I could have sworn that Capello wanted one permanent captain?

Their managers would probably moan aswell, A similar thing happened with the u-21s. I think its some agreement between the clubs and the FA because personally, international games at this stage of the season is bloody ridiculous.

Football is tribal it is unlike any other sport so it is fully understandable a lot of English people washing their hands of the national team.

How easy is it for say a Spurs fan to cheer on Arsenal players playing for England ? how easy is it for an Everton fan to cheer when Andy Carroll or Gerrard scores for England ? football is unique in that and the answer is bloody hard.

There is not the tribal rivalry in cricket so everyone cheers on the England team.

Er.. where were Jack Wilshere's 'several pub brawls' he actually got arrested for basically trying to break up a fight  And Gerrard didn't get convicted for anything either. Its an issue because they're footballers and England footballers, there are plenty of bad thing I hear about people in other sports but I only hear them when I read the little columns near the back of a tabloid!
The players being returned to the clubs include the captain. After the captaincy saga that has been in the media where Capello appears to want the stability of one player with the captain's armband, it makes me think he has egg on his face.
He has to for relations. Making Terry play in a pointless friendly when he's playing in the Champions League will put a bad strain on relations with Chelsea, he has little option really...

Looks like it's going to be Barry, even though his days of being an England regular are long over...
