Posted March 21, 201114 yr Inspired by Jennifer Lopez's obvious new smash hit On The Floor, which will almost certainly be her first UK top ten hit in six years, what other acts had huge, possibly shocking, comebacks after a long period of being 'irrelevant' or not releasing anything, or a long gap between hits if they'd been releasing music inbetween to little success. I'll start with a few off the top of my head; Take That - surely the ultimate one. 10 years after breaking up with a How Deep Is Your Love at #1, they get back together after and score a #1 with Patience, only to continue that success with subsequent singles, albums and concerts. Incredible! Boyzone - A much lesser example of Take That's feat but a top 5 single/album to come back with (and then another top ten single and a #1 album) is no mean feat after nearly ten years away in an ever evolving pop landscape... Blondie - Wasn't Maria in 1999 their first top ten hit in nearly 20 years? And to smash straight back in at #1 like they did was a phenomenal achievement at the age that they were! Kylie Minogue - It's almost like she had two separate careers - her PWL career in the late 80's/early 90's, and then the Parlophone era since 2000. Like J.Lo, her gap between top ten hits was six years (Confide In Me -> Spinning Around), so it shows that careers CAN be revived in spectacular style sometimes!
March 21, 201114 yr Dannii Minogue - Her debut went top 10 and she had a few top 10 hits. Then, despite success with one or two singles she flopped alot. Who Do You Love? came along and she was a success again, although now she seems to be back to flopping
March 21, 201114 yr The Prodigy? The greatest hits era aside, their album did incredibly well, after 5 years or whatever. 'Always Outnumbered Never Outgunned' was in the charts for 6 weeks (according to chartstats.com!) and 'Invaders Must Die' lasted 52 weeks! Quite the difference, just as they seemed to be fading out/become irrelevant, they take time off and manage to score a massively successful era (both singles and albums wise)! 'Omen' was their first top 5 hit since 'Baby's Got A Temper' back in 2002.
March 21, 201114 yr Author When did Dr Dre last lead a UK top ten single? It's got to have been almost ten years ago surely? :o
March 21, 201114 yr Author There seem to be so many late 90's/early 00's stars returning to the charts recently after relatively long periods out of the limelight - Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Dr Dre, Jennifer Lopez, Enrique Iglesias, Britney Spears, Wheatus (:kink:)...hopefully it's a trend that will continue as I feel like the charts in the last few years have become a little ageist, probably no thanks to Radio 1/Capital FM etc...who seem to want to stop playing most artists as soon as they hit 40.
March 21, 201114 yr Are we just counting Top 10 hits/successful albums? Because the last time (before 'Do You Know (Ping Pong Song)' - Still one of the most creative and genius ideas for a pop song, ever imo!) Enrique (seeing as you mentioned him) had a top 10 hit, was with 'Escape' back in 2002. 5 Years later he hits the top 10 again with DYK(PPS), but he had Top 20 hits for the rest of 2002/2003... Although I guess 2003-2007 is still quite a big gap... EDIT: Oh yes! Whitney's last top 10 was, weirdly enough, with Enrique back in 2000. That was until 'Million Dollar Bill' reached number 5 in 2009. 9 Years!

I'd definitely count Enrique, that was a pretty long gap between BIG hits! Forgot about Whitney, I guess the X Factor performance helped that song a lot but it did get a lot of airplay too (although I don't think Radio 1 playlisted it ).
March 21, 201114 yr Eminem's another one- it was his first studio album since 2004, after a five year break and it still sold well- although that year wasn't exactly his true 'emergence from the wilderness', a year later, he truly came back fighting- so it was technically six years :D also it depends how long you count it- but Coldplay came back with their first number 1 and huge selling album, a similar story for Green Day and of course Nicole Scherzinger- after gaining the name Flopzinger (unsurprisingly with a song as laughable as Baby Love  ) she came back storming to number 3 with Poison (and probably number 1 if X Factor never released a charity song and John Lewis didn't use Ellie's Song :P) and now she has a number 1 :o technically, this isn't in chart success terms- but in terms of commercial breakthrough and critical high points, Elbow certainly had a great 2008 with their comeback- not only did their album sell well, but they won a Mercury prize and recorded what will probably be their signature song, which brought them to the public eye really Edited March 21, 201114 yr by chart wizard
March 21, 201114 yr What about Train? 'Drops of Jupiter' was a number 10 hit back in 2001, but 'Hey, Soul Sister' was a massive #18 hit (we all know how long THAT lasted in our charts!) last year for them. (9 Years again) Although it wasn't a top 10 hit, it sold like it was an average Top 10 hit or something. Not much albums success though.
March 21, 201114 yr I remember when 'Hey, Soul Sister' was around, 'Drops Of Jupiter' returned to iTunes Top 100/120 at some time. Edited March 21, 201114 yr by FM11
March 21, 201114 yr I remember when 'Hey, Soul Sister' was around, 'Drops Of Jupiter' returned to iTunes Top 100/120 at some time.Isn't it a regular track in the top 300 before that anyway? Pretty much like how 'Don't Stop Believin''/'Mr Brightside'/'Chasing Cars' etc. were. But having said that, it seems to be completely out of the top 1000 now so ignore what I said haha!
March 21, 201114 yr They Might Be Giants had a massive 11 year gap between Birdhouse In Your Soul and follow up Boss Of Me thanks to it being the theme to Malcolm In The Middle.
March 21, 201114 yr Roll Deep (2005-2010)? Well, kind of, if their chart performance back then weren't that great. LOL Edited March 21, 201114 yr by FM11
March 21, 201114 yr Author Really hoping we can add Blue to this list soon  If it smashes in at #35, I shan't be happy!
March 21, 201114 yr Kylie is the Ultimate one! Whitney has had some gaps in her hit lists. Lol Kylie is good but you can't compare her success to Take That. Take That have broken pretty much every record since they reformed, no group has come close to them since The Beatles.
March 21, 201114 yr It doesn't really count given the short gap but '5 Years Time' was a fairly substantial hit for Noah & The Whale in summer '08, the singles from that album which followed missed the top 75, as did everything from their next album. Then from nowhere they're now back in the top 20 heading for 3 months in the top 40 with 'Life Goes On'!
