March 26, 201114 yr How times change! Higher has a phonominal opening week of 32k for a #10 position and outsells Issues (28k #4) and Ego (26k, #9)'s first week sales! And a massive shocker at If This Is Love (#8) and Work (#22) just seperated by less than 100 coppies! I remember that If This Is Love had been released on any other week it wouldn't of gone Top 10 with those sales. I always thought that Chasing Lights still had greater first week sales than Headlines? Still goes to show how times change when Chasing Lights (2008) enters at #11 with 22k and then 2yrs later Headlines (2010) debuts at #3 with nearly 23k. Hopefully album sales will pick up a bit this year.
March 27, 201114 yr Surely these are just 'chart peak' sales than 'first week' sales? As Higher took about six weeks top 40 before making #10, same with 'Ego' and 'Issues'?
March 27, 201114 yr Author Surely these are just 'chart peak' sales than 'first week' sales? As Higher took about six weeks top 40 before making #10, same with 'Ego' and 'Issues'? yes, some are. but their chart peak are basically their highest sales. but i shall add 'chart peak' to the thread title :)
March 28, 201114 yr First Week/Highest Sales (highest to lowest) Just Can’t Get Enough – 64,785 (2) Missing You – 57,157 (3) Forever Is Over – 38,846 (2) Higher – 32,499 (10) Issues - 28,719 (4) Ego – 26,959 (9) Up - 26,593 (5) If This Is Love - 14,990 (8) Work – 14,902 (22) Only 88 copies separate ITIL and Work! Headlines! – 22,981 (3) Chasing Lights - 22,393 (11) and 12,771 (9) Wordshaker – 15,021 (9) It shows their first singles always have higher first weeks... **JCGE wasn't on CL until a few weeks after the single release** with the exception of ITIL. I wonder if this next single could top JCGE... they really need AT LEAST 80k to get a #1 in most weeks.
March 28, 201114 yr I wonder if this next single could top JCGE... they really need AT LEAST 80k to get a #1 in most weeks. I'd even go as far to say they may need more 90-100k+ to seccure a #1. Sales for the #1s this year have been very healthy indeed.
April 9, 201114 yr I always thought that Chasing Lights still had greater first week sales than Headlines? Still goes to show how times change when Chasing Lights (2008) enters at #11 with 22k and then 2yrs later Headlines (2010) debuts at #3 with nearly 23k. Hopefully album sales will pick up a bit this year. I wouldn't say that's an example of times changing. It's just that sales in the fourth quarter are always a lot higher than the third quarter.
May 30, 201114 yr 5th place out of 10 singles that sells 30k on opening for #8 is great. Just as a rough guideline, here are 2011 sales margins.. 30k - Top 10 placement 20k - Top 20 placement 10k - Top 40 placement Compare them with their singles from 2008 especially and compare them to how they may have charted in 2011.. Top 10 Just Can’t Get Enough – 64,785 (2) (2009) Top 10 Missing You – 57,157 (3) (2010) Top 10 Forever Is Over – 38,846 (2) (2009) Top 10 Higher – 32,499 (10) (2010) Top 10 Notorious - 30,273 (8) (2011) Top 15 Issues - 28,719 (4) (2009) Top 20 Ego – 26,959 (9) (2009) Top 20 Up - 26,593 (5) (2008) Top 40 If This Is Love - 14,990 (8) (2008) Top 40 Work – 14,902 (22) (2009)
June 1, 201114 yr Author Wow! Quite a difference for some of them! JCGE would still be at 2 and MY at 3, but all the others dropped loads - Up, ITIL, Work  Thanks for the comment
November 21, 201113 yr God that's awful. How the hell did they go from opening with 68k a few months ago to 23k? Where has the 45k of 'fans' gone?!
November 22, 201113 yr Author My Heart Takes Over is one of, if not, my favourite Saturdays single, too! :(
December 5, 201113 yr Wow they've never sold many albums have they! The record company must take a large slice of the tour etc.
