Delta Goodrem and Brian McFadden have officially ended their engagement and split up.

 

In a joint statement released on Friday, the pair announced they had decided to call time on their seven year relationship after growing apart.

 

Goodrem, an Australian pop singer, and McFadden, a former singer with Irish pop band Westlife, had been engaged since November 2007.

 

"Delta Goodrem and Brian McFadden regretfully announce that they are no longer engaged, and after much consideration, have mutually decided to end their relationship," their statement read.

 

"This decision has been made with a lot of soul searching from both parties with the realisation that they have grown apart.

 

"They leave the partnership with respect for one and other, wishing each other success and happiness for the future."

 

Speculation of problems in their relationship began surfacing this year following the couple's refusal to set a wedding date.

 

Just days ago, McFadden described them as "chalk and cheese" and admitted they were living separate lives.

 

Both are pursuing their respective pop careers and were often split between Australian, the UK and the United States.

 

The pair first fell in love after recording the duet Almost Here in 2004, which topped the charts in Australia and Ireland.

 

McFadden proposed to Goodrem while they were on holidays in Bali in 2007.

 

The pair have requested privacy.

 

I did wonder if this was an April Fools, but firstly it was announced long after midday in Australia and secondly, it would be a very distasteful thing to do as an April Fool, and I can't imagine the paper's would print it so it seems as if it's true. I'm pretty shocked to be honest, they always seemed to look so close. I wonder if this will delay Delta's album for another two years, maybe she'll want to completely re-write it if the songs so far were all about Brian or something?

Indeed. I suspect McFadden's song about RAPE is more likely to shift units than Delta these days.

I'm hoping that god awful rape song lead to the break-up. She realised she couldn't be associated with someone who considers something that vile to be 'music'

Wow wasn't expecting that :o But I hate Brian and :heart: Delta so yay!
