Commentary on new/re-entries to the top 100 singles:

  • Jennifer Lopez scores her first #1 for 6 years and third #1 overall, On The Floor (feat. Pitbull). It's Pitbull's first ever #1. If my counting skills serve me correctly it's Lopez's 18th top 100 hit (17th as the lead artist) and Pitbull's 11th.
  • Katy B scores her fourth top 100 hit and third top 10 hit with Broken Record at #8.
  • Panic! At The Disco make their return with sixth top 100 hit The Ballad Of Mona Lisa at #43, a fairly poor showing for them.
  • Justice also make a return after several years, with Civilization (Americanised spelling and all) entering at #55 to give them a third top 100 hit.
  • Glee Cast increase their top 100 hit tally past the three-figure mark, bringing it up to 102 with five new hits - Firework (originally by Katy Perry) at #55, Fat Bottomed Girls (originally by Queen) at #66, P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing) [originally by Michael Jackson] at #68, When I Get You Alone (originally by Robin Thicke) at #79 and Silly Love Songs (originally by Wings) at #89. With their 3 entries from last week all retaining a top 100 spot they have 8 simultaneous top 100 hits, matching Tinie Tempah's 2011 record.
  • Britney Spears re-enters at #56 with her 26th top 100 hit Till The World Ends. It was #120 last week giving it a peculiar chart run of 55-21-55-120-56.
  • The Script once again re-enter with what was their second of 7 top 100 hits, The Man Who Can't Be Moved at #80.
  • Flo Rida scores his thirteenth top 100 hit (10th as the lead artist) since his 2008 début with Who Dat Girl (feat. Akon) at #82. Akon has racked up an even more impressive tally of hits in a short space of time - his first hit was at the end of 2004 and in the less than 7 years since then he's racked up a massive 32 top 100 hits. It seems certain to be the lowest peaker on the tracklisting for Now That's What I Call Music! 78, with every other song on the album having made the top 20 and all but 9 having made the top 10.
  • Feeder make an unexpected return to the chart, scoring their 25th top 100 hit with Side By Side entering at #91.
  • Coldplay re-enter again with Viva La Vida at #93. The song is so far their only #1 and was the 12th of 15 top 100 hits to date for the band. Why has it re-entered? I don't know, but it's great to see it back anyway.
  • Milk & Sugar score a third top 100 hit (thanks gooddelta for informing me they had hits before :P) and Vaya Con Dios their first with Hey (Nah Neh Nah), credited to Milk & Sugar vs. Vaya Con Dios, entering at #94. The song is based on Vaya Con Dios' 1990 single Nah Neh Neh which never charted in the UK.
  • After a week delay, Chris Brown charts with a third album track off his album F.A.M.E., with Beautiful People (feat. Benny Benassi) entering at #95. It's Brown's 21st top 100 hit (17th as a lead artist) and surprisingly only the fourth for Benassi.
  • Radiohead make yet another re-entry with the third and arguably biggest of their 20 top 100 hits, 1993 #7 hit Creep. It gives the song a twentieth week in the top 100 over eight different runs.
  • Swedish House Mafia (vs. Tinie Tempah) also re-enter at #98 with Miami 2 Ibiza. With all of Tinie's four top 100 hits last week retaining a top 100 place Tinie is back up to 5 top 100 hits. He has now scored 78 top 100 weeks in 2011 so far with all of his entries combined.
  • Jamie Woon scores a second top 100 hit with Lady Luck entering at #99.
  • And finally Katy B re-enters the top 100 with the first of her four top 100 hits, Katy On A Mission at #100.

I don't expect anyone to actually read that as I waffled on a bit and it's not really that interesting to read anyway

Full top 100 updates coming soon.

Is this supposed to be some sort of achievement? For an artist of Britney's calibre these singles (particularly HIAM) have performed truly ABYSMALLY. Your lead single falling out of the top 10 the week prior to album release really is shocking. Her star is at an all-time low here. I wonder if In The Zone sold more at #13 than Femme Fatale managed at #8...

'In The Zone' sold in the region of 27,000. In fact 'Circus' is her second fastest selling album in the UK, 'Oops!...I Did it Again' sold an average 10,000 more than her 6th LP in release week.

Lots of artists can only dream of having a top 10 single and a top 10 album, so I don't think they'd appreciate it if they came on here and saw us calling an artist who has managed to achieve that "a failure".

I meant to say 'falling out of the top 75' rather than top 10. Edited now.

And Britney is not and never has been 'most artists'. This is an outright flop.

Hate to compare the obvious but how much did 'Bionic' by Christina Aguilera sell when it debuted at #1 last year? Just to see how much Britney's new album has sold in comparison - and whether it takes a dramatic tumble next week. At least 08-36 looks less bad than 01-29.
I guess she's the ultimate Mother's Day gift for people who really hate their mothers.

To be honest. I don't think Britney really cares that she only spent one week in the top 10 of the UK singles chart this year or whatever, when she's done this. I doubt she even knows how well she's done here. Her main priority is the US (as is evident by the lack of promotion we've had here), and she's done fantastically there, and Till the World Ends has just re-entered the top 10 on iTunes, and she had one of her album tracks (I Wanna Go) almost go top 20 on US iTunes recently too. If this is considered a "flop", I don't really know what she can do tbh:

Commentary on new/re-entries to the top 100 singles:

  • The only two artists getting their first top 100 hits this week are both together on the new entry at #94, Milk & Sugar vs. Vaya Con Dios - Hey (Nah Neh Nah). The song is based on Vaya Con Dios' 1990 single Nah Neh Nah which never made the UK charts.

Milk & Sugar have had hits in the UK with Love Is In The Air (#25 - 2002) and Let The Sunshine In (#18 - 2003). Long gap between hits but Hey (Nah Neh Nah) is indeed by the same German production duo!

Well it's a flop, HERE, in the UK - you know, the third biggest music market in the world for sales. Take your stan goggles off.

You say 'her main priority is the US' as though that's a good thing. For today's pop superstars a good marketing strategy has them promoting globally, but I guess when she can hardly be bothered to promote in the US and is miraculously still selling off the back of past glories there then there's not much hope for her moving her arse over here.

Oops, I didn't bother to look it up as I thought I would know about an act called 'Milk & Sugar' already had they had hits before

I'm not stanning her, I'm just being realistic. The UK matters to me, and most other people on this forum, because most of us live here.

But seriously, I honestly don't think Britney cares. She probably wouldn't be able to point to the UK on a map anyway. She's probably one of those people that think London is a country.

True. She did shout HAY LONDON when she was in Manchester touring here.

Forth. :)

lol. Did she really?

TOTAL LEGEND!

Forth. :)

Is it? I'm guessing Japan, US and Germany are the top 3 then?

Also, it's spelt "Fourth", I think. "Forth" is used in contexts such as "He thrusted back and forth".

Yes, I was there. TOTALLY cringe moment. She had just done 5 nights there.

There was like a wierd awkward silence but everyone was screaming so loud I doubt they cared.

You had to say that rather than "I whip my hair back and forth"

Yes, it's:

1 USA

2 Japan

3 Germany

4 UK

UK *was* third but it was recently announced Germany have overtaken us. This is based on revenue rather than units though.

Also, I hate how it seems so many Americans think London is a country :( It was slightly refreshing to hear Nicki Minaj say 'I'm in the UK' in Girls Fall Like Dominoes

I've been to quite a few concerts where the performer's shouted 'Hello London'. Beyonce in Brighton springs to mind...I wasn't exactly shocked, but the crowd semi-booed her  (This wasn't a Beyonce concert, she was headlining a Radio 1 chart show thing which I went to in 2006 - there were only a few of her stans in the front row).

Forth. :)

You're wrong. Germany is the world's third-biggest music market when calculated in terms of overall revenue... because they charge pretty much double what we do for the average album when you take currency translations into account. In terms of sales we're the third-biggest market and if we didn't discount albums that are 6+ months old so heavily we'd be the third. For a record label releasing a new album we're still a more important market than Germany.

You had to say that rather than "I whip my hair back and forth"

Oh yeah, that would've been better. Just wrote down the first thing that came to mind tbh.

And, yeah, I guess I'll just have to face the facts, Britney could've done a lot better.
