of course Adele has had huge hype- why do you think her album and singles have sold so much? she's all everyone's talking about, I'm not denying she's a great singer with great material- but there's clearly been hype, starting last year with X Factor...

Perry can sing live. I have seen and heard for myself and it completly changed my opinion. And who cares what Estelle thinks? Nobody outside of Buzzjack even remembers or cares who that bint is.

Sorry nothing against you, I just had to nitpick the Perry thing :P I totally agree that the X Factor and the fact that she has had pretty flawless promotion and the overall quality of the tracks have increased tenfold are contributing factors.

You mean American Boy Estelle? If so, firstly, why do you hate her so much? And secondly, everybody remembers who she is!

It's true though. Katy Perry doesn't get enough credit for her singing abilities tbh. I know she's not perfect, but people act like she can't sing at all, and that's not true. Her singing is really underrated tbh.

If nothing else, she's certainly increased the average-time-at-#1 for albums! :P

The 'Guardian' Article says that the 12 consecutive Weeks at No.1 of 'Legend', (1984),

is the 'All Time Record', that Adele might beat.

As usual, a Journalist has misunderstood. The OCC have said that 'Legend' was

the last Album to spend more than 11 successive Weeks at No.1. That it managed

12. Somehow, this is interpreted as only 'Legend' has had 12 Weeks in a row at No.1.

Apart from Film Soundtracks, (by Various Artists), & the 'My Fair Lady' Stage Cast

Album, there have been several Albums that have spent more than 12 Weeks in a

row at No.1.

The last was in 1970 - 'Bridge Over Troubled Water', by Simon & Garfunkel. It

went in at No.1, & spent its first 13 Chart Weeks there. (It later went back to No.1

on 7 occasions, & managed 33 No.1 Weeks over-all).

I've e-mailed them about this twice as they said the same thing in a news report on Tuesday. They did publish a letter from someone about BOTW but even that was wrong as the writer claimed that BOTW holds the record for a consecutive run at number one. As we know, that is a long way from the truth.

*Puts statistician's hat on*

If you measure this over the whole history of the albums chart, the difference will be negligible

*Puts statistician's hat away for the next person who needs it*

I agree with this. I have always liked Katy but never thought she was a good live singer but I was offered the chance to see her live on Tuesday there and I went, not expecting much and I was so pleasantly suprised by her vocals, they were actually very good.

Katy perry can be good, when she wants to be. Acoustically, she is amazing. I would urge anyone to check out her unplugged session

In today's 'The Sun', Richard Bacon, claims that when '21' gets its

11th No.1 Week tomorrow, it will be the first Album in 15 Years, (1996),

to achieve it.

If he means 11 Weeks in a row, it has not actually been done since

'Elton John's Greatest Hits'. (Between 1974 & 1975).

If he means in Total, then, 'Jagged Little Pill', by Alanis Morissette,

was No.1 for 11 Weeks in 1996, but, it needed 3 'Runs' to get them.

Anyhow, 'Spice', (Spice Girls), had 15 Weeks at No.1, from 1996 to

1997, but it needed 5 'Runs' to get them.

From 1997 to 1998, 'Urban Hymns', by The Verve, spent 12 Weeks at

No.1, but it needed 3 'Runs' to get them.

In 1999 - 2000, 'Come On Over', by Shania Twain, spent 11 Weeks at

No.1 - but, that needed 3 'Runs'.

Basically, the UK Media simply do not seem to understand the difference

between No.1 Albums that are No.1 in consecutive Weeks, & those that

need more than 1 'Run' to get their total No.1 Weeks.

And, Journalists are too stupid, & lazy, to do any research.....so they repeat

garbage, from each other.

That's for exactly 11 weeks in a row, Bob Marley & The Wailers had 12 in a row in 1984.

Very true.

Bray - I know that Bob Marley & The Wailers were No.1, for 12 Weeks, in a row,

with 'Legend', in 1984. However, when I said that Elton John was the last Artist

to have 11 Weeks in a row, I meant the last Solo Artist. Adele & Elton are the

only 2 Solo Artists, to manage more than 10 consecutive Weeks, since Elvis Presley,

in 1962. (17 consecutive Weeks - 'Blue Hawaii' - Released in 1961)

Adele - 21 is looking almost definitely at a place in the Top 15 albums of all time. This is the current list on Everyhit.com but that may well be out of date as other lists they have are out of date too.

1. "Greatest Hits (Volume One)" - Queen (1981) (5.4 million copies)

2. "Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" - The Beatles (1967) (4.8 million)

3. "(What's The Story) Morning Glory" - Oasis (1995) (4.3 million

4. "Brothers In Arms" - Dire Straits (1985) (4.0 million)

5. "Abba Gold Greatest Hits" - Abba (1992) (3.9 million)

6. "The Dark Side Of The Moon" - Pink Floyd (1973) (3.8 million)

7. "Greatest Hits Volume II" - Queen (1991) (3.6 million)

8. "Thriller" - Michael Jackson (1982) (3.6 million)

9. "Bad" - Michael Jackson (1987) (3.6 million)

10. "The Immaculate Collection" - Madonna (1990) (3.4 million)

11. "Stars" - Simply Red (1991) (3.4 million)

12. "Come On Over" - Shania Twain (1998) (3.3 million)

13. "Rumours" - Fleetwood Mac (1977) (3.1 million)

14. "Urban Hymns" - The Verve (1997) (3.1 million)

15. "No Angel" - Dido (2002) (3.0 million)

Tonyttt31 - Yes, the Everyhit List is almost 4.5 Years out of date.

It is the one that The OCC published in November 2006. Since

then, the ABBA Album is up from 4th to 3rd place, with around

4,900,000 Sales. 'Thriller' is up from 8th place to 5th place.

Do we have an up to date - or at least up to the end of 2010 list?

I take back what I said about Katy Perry she is not that bad live but sometimes she sounds pitchy. She had an Indemand session and picked some really good songs so like her a bit more now.

I've got an OCC / BPI list that was compiled with sales to 14/06/09, it's only a top 40 though. It used to be available to download from the BPI website but they removed the link a few months ago. I believe that may be the last list that the BPI / OCC made available.

Apologies for the formatting but it's been taken from a pdf file:

I'd imagine Abba must be very close to the Beatles for second place now... and for actual sales of an individual album release they must be very close to #1 - Queen's Greatest Hits includes sales from both Greatest Hits I and II as well as the Platinum Collection (Greatest Hits I, II and III). The OCC decided to add a half and a third of sales from the latter two albums by Queen. Abba Gold may even be the biggest selling album of all time in the UK by the end of this year if we ignore the extra sales that the two Queen album sets generated.

Really? That's stupid, you don't see a quarter of the sales of P!nk's box set 'album' that went top 10 in 2009 being added to the sales of the four albums in it...
