It's on Magic (Sky 363) now. I just thought you guys might like to know that Anastacia has sold less than 600k in singles, with all her single sales combined she has only sold 590k :o "Left Outside Alone" was released in 2004 and became her biggest hit (7th biggest seller of the year) and we all know how bad the sales were then but I was gobsmacked that she hasn't even reached Platinum status with all her singles combined. Anyone else surprised by this??

Yes, especially given how long LOA charted for!

Yeah, that is surprising really. I mean, she was so incredibly popular at one point.

She was unfortunate I guess. Her popularity peaked when sales were pretty much at their lowest.

Here's Anastacias' UK Chart history:

2000: I'm Outta Love

Chart Run: 7-6-9-11-14-12-12-15-19-23-27-36-42-47-51-61-72

2001: Not That Kind

Chart Run: 11-18-20-27-36-40-54-RE62

2001: Cowboys & Kisses

Chart Run: 28-42-59-71-66

2001: Made For Lovin' You

Chart Run: 27-42-63

2001/02: Paide My Dues

Chart Run: 14-22-31-38-38-38-41-55-66

2002: One Day In Your Life (one of my personal faves, thought this went Top 10)

Chart Run: 11-15-21-25-24-32-37-46-64

2002: Why'd You Lie To Me

Chart Run: 25-57-67-RE73-73

2002: You'll Never Be Alone

Chart Run: 31-49-67

2004: Left Outside Alone (another fave of mine)

Chart Run: 3-5-4-4-4-5-7-6-7-8-9-15-16-19-19-23-32-40-44-53 (275,000 sales according to Wikipedia, biggest-selling non-number one single of the year)

2004: Sick & Tired

Chart Run: 4-6-8-12-27-26-30-36-41-57-74

2004: Welcome To My Truth

Chart Run: 25-43-57-55-65

2005: Heavy On My Heart

Chart Run: 21-43-75

2005: Everything Burns (with Ben Moody)

*I remember this being played on the UK music channels but apparently it did not chart*

2005: Pieces Of A Dream

Chart Run: 48-OUT

2008: I Can Feel You

Chart Run: 67-OUT

Notice how all but one of her singles when straight in the chart at its peak, "I'm Outta Love" just climbed one place (7-6)

Damn, I don't get Magic because I don't have Sky :(

Quite suprising she has sold less than 600k, but then again, only Left Outside Alone and I'm Outta Love were successful.

Notice how all but one of her singles when straight in the chart at its peak, "I'm Outta Love" just climbed one place (7-6)

That's pretty common for this century, barring the period between 2006 and 2008 and most post-album releases since - and she's not really done that well in that period.

I'm sure that total is wrong...

LOA's total is correct but IOL sold over 200k I'm certain and ODIYL 100k+. That puts her 15k or so shy of the supposed total already. You telling me her other singles failed to sell that?

Also surely they must have trickled at least a few extra thousand sales due to downloads. I wonder how accurate this list is.

Edit: From Haven

54 I'm Outta Love - Anastacia [6] 227,000 [would've sold a bit more in 2001]

126 One Day In Your Life – Anastacia [11]85,000

7. Anastacia - 'Left Outside Alone' 275,000

94. Anastacia - 'Sick And Tired' 62,000

According to Wikipedia IOL did sell over 200k :-) I don't really like these countdowns because you watch one saying a song has sold a specific amout and then another has the same song with different sales, and I'm not just talking about newer releases which obviously woulda sold more.

Edited by gagafan

It doesn't surprise me, Ana was at her biggest when single sales were extremely low. However pre-2008 she was a very big album seller with her first 3 exceeding 900k and 2 of them over a million.
these countdowns on TV aren't always right though, that said, bar Left Outside Alone (which was released in a very low sales environment) she's never been a huge singles act, and her recent songs have flopped

Does the Rihanna total include last years sales? I'm no expert but that total seems quite high? If so it would explain why Anastacia is lower than expected, as it would be 2001-10

That's funny, because I was going to say it seems a bit low.

I'm sure last year alone Rihanna sold over 2 million.

EDIT: Actually no, that seems about right. 2010 was one of her biggest years, and the year with highest sales. She didn't do much in 2009, for example.

Also, does it include featured songs?

EDIT: I found these:

Those figures from the countdown must be out of date, if you compare Lady Gaga's and Eminem's figures, for example.

It's surely too high to not take account of last year. There's no way she sold 6 million of singles pre-'Rude Boy'. Given the sales climate has only really been high in the last two years and she only released the one(?) single in 2009, I can't imagine that she'd be on around 9 million sales now....

Well, Rihanna sold over 3.5 million in the 00's (not including featured singles), and she sold 2.5 million in 2010.

I'll be conservative and assumed 3.5 million for the 00's, which gives here 6 million altogether, which correlates with the list given.

However, Eminem sold 4.5 million in the 00's, and 2 million in 2010, which gives him 6.5 million altogether. So, firstly, he should be ahead of Rihanna, and secondly, his figure given is a lot lower.

The only way this might make sense is if they counted it, say halfway through 2010, and included featured singles. Rihanna had Live Your Life and Run This Town which sold a lot, for example, which might've kept her total at 6 million, making up for the Only Girl sales in the last few months of 2010.

Eminem's total would be about a million lower if counted mid-2010, even if they included featured singles, because he sold over 500,000 featured singles in the 00's, but he loses well over a million sales from Not Afraid, Love the Way You Lie, No Love, etc.

I think you are right. I think they have done it between 2001 and 2010 instead of 2000 and 2009, the way it should be, hence why Rihanna, Gaga ect. are so high, as I don't think Gaga managed to sell 4.5 million in 2009 alone as she only released JD, PF, Paparazzi, LG so 2010 must be included to add BR (lots of its sales were in 2010), Telephone and Alejandro to make that total.

Lady Gaga sold 3 million in 2009.

The 2001-2010 thing might make sense, since Eminem probably sold like a million singles in 2000, accounting for the million difference between the two totals.

If Eminem sold 4.5m in the 2000s then that will surely be 2000-2009, so his 2000 sales (Real Slim Shady, Way I Am, Stan) will be wiped out?

Yeah, and that would explain the million sales he has missing, if they ignored 2000. The sales of Stan, etc. in 2000 probably totalled around that.
