Nah I'm not for it. It's altering history, and could even produce a hypothetical different winner for XXXI which would open up a whole other can of worms. Just let it be, it's the most successful nations of the year based on what has ACTUALLY happened, not made up stuff. Besides, come the end of the year when we've had at least 10 contests, the effect of the first one of the year will be minimal.

The Last Time would have been even further ahead than it already was proportionally under the 12 points system - it appeared in the top five of 3/4 of the people who voted for it

But I completely agree with you, let sleeping dogs lie as it were, history doesn't need changing. Last year's rankings (which Kopecka finished #1 in at the end of the year) had a few 12 pointer contests in the mix from the start of the year, we haven't had a full year under one system since 2009.

Funny that...

I'd say a contest which has double the amount of points for most positions than most of the other contests is hardly minimal  It's not altering history to calculate the most successful based on one calculation rather than a mix - it would be to change the result in the actual history of the thing.

And, for the record, I'd be perfectly happy to accept a standardisation of last year's calculation if anybody put themselves up for it :P

It's just not necessary! It's a bit of fun useless trivia that doesn't really mean anything in practice. It's not perfect but neither, like I've already said, is the all time ranking. They're both based on points scored, nobody is pretending otherwise, so with that in mind, it's completely and utterly accurate.

It's your own fault for sending an unspectacular song to that particular contest and trailing in 200 odd points behind the winner, the mods had always stipulated that it was going to be changing back to the 12 points system the following month (I believe it was supposed to have been in time for XXXI actually but Rob must have forgotten). So you should have capitalised on your last chance and sent something incredible :P

I agree, it was never meant to be anything other than that when I first started up the stats thread. If you want a true representation of the most successful countries based on percentage of doing well divided by the number of contests that they'd appeared in, then of course the list would be completely different. And who on earth would have the time to work out all of that

Everybody that has appeared in every contest, or every contest this year, is on level footing here - just some people sent more popular songs than others on the months where points were easier to come by.

I'm not saying this to try and get me ahead! I'd lose out a fair bit from it going down to 12 or up to 18 - the former given I got barely anything other than small fry points for Michelle and the latter given Vendela became the first 2nd placer in ages to not get a single 12! I'd just be interested to see how this year (and last year for that matter) would be if it was standard, and do think it'd be more accurate for judging the most successful countries.

Thing is, you change one thing you might as well change a hundred others. What if Batidas won the next 5 contests on the trot, but still finished just behind me in the end of year ranking? It would be clear that they'd been the most successful country of the year, except that they wouldn't statistically because they joined two contests too late and were playing catch up all year in terms of total points accrued.

Also, it would be impossible to go 'up to 18', as the 1-5 pointers would be missing.

- Although since Zechonia came 10th by finding a song perfect to BJSC for the first time (:kink:), they actually rose 12 places upwards!

´

Pff, stop exaggerating! :P

There were Stanfour feat. Jill and Aura Dione, and I think I came 14th or 15th with Metric. <_< :D

I know, I know :heehee:

 at all this.

It was just a curious comment when I posted about how well Batidas would've done had BJSC still used the 18 points system. Don't go back throughout the previous contests and "round up" or "round down" the points - it really isn't worth it. :D

There were Stanfour feat. Jill
Still your best ever entry! (And still one of my all time favourite finds )

30 - Farahtyn – 215

---------

- Ojnoj is really proving its current strength in the contest by coming 3rd in XXXV and moving even closer to the top. So does Batidas with a 7 places climb into the top 10 for the first time. It may seem probable they’ll maintain this way judging by their success since debuting! :cheer:

- Already quite familiar with the top 10 but haven’t quite got there yet this year bar now are Hendinia gaining 5 places.

- The country responsible for the biggest climb since last contest is definitely UnoShake. Like just over night they ran from 33rd to 19th raising them a full 14 places up the scoreboard. :o

- Lievant and Letland continue their consistency and climbs 8 places!

- Joining in and debuting on the golden side of things are The Former Yugoslav Republic of Vojvodina-on-the-Wold and Farahtyn; both climbing 7 places up to just about achieving a top 30 placing. Adding to that same achievement is Kluminican republic with 6 places higher.

--------

- On the unfortunate side of things we see Lorikeet and Espen fall outside of the top 10, Caerfyrddia fall 5 places and both Tinnmark and Xanaga falling 6 places.

- The worst fall since last contest with a decrease in rank by 7 places are Yuxhaaq, Greenfroze ( :( ) and United States of Jack.

(Oh and FIY if B.a.N.G had voted they would’ve been 16th :kink:)

UPSETTING READING. I don't suppose Ashton will be that easy to overtake but I'm pretty sure I could give Herzebania a run for their money to retake third.
Woo 6th (again)! Now to overtake Kopecka (and Ojnoj with Herzebania since they're pretty close) :cheer:
