This song is actually making me want to buy the album. I hated both Born This Way and Judas. But this song is just everything.

EDIT: I don't why this wasn't the first single from the album. Also The Edge Of Glory is way better album title than Born This Way.

Yeah I hear My Life Would Suck Without You in the chorus as well, which is bizarre as the tempo is very different.
Not getting ANY of these comparisons  although the intro does slightly remind me of My Vietman by Pink

I was passing judgement on this until a few (ie like 10) listens:

Ok... I will admit I was SO dissapointed on first listen, but I've given it like 2 hours now and now I LOVE it! It reminds a mix of My Life Would Suck Without You by Kelly Clarkson and Born This Way  I love the sax bits too! For me:

Judas > Born This Way > Edge Of Glory

All are 10/10, and I'd probably say, even at this early stage Edge is my 3rd fave song of the year! SUCH a loon :drama:

EDIT: This grows EVERY listen, and now it's just finished again:

Judas >> Edge >>>> Born This Way

But as I said above, my top 3 songs of the year :o

Oh wow, im blown away! This is the song ive been waiting for from GaGa  REALLY looking forward to the album now! Should have been first single for definite!
I'm not sure what to think on first listen... it's just so... NORMAL! :o

This is what I was thinking. Am I alone in thinking she just isn't as revolutionary as she think she is? Has she failed to be as brave as we were led to believe? Born this Way and Edge of Glory are more or less patchworks of other people's songs...that's something even Katy Perry isn't allowed to do without getting slagged off for it. Why should Lady Gaga be allowed to do it also?

I agree in principle. Whilst Edge of Glory is definitely catchy and I do find myself quite liking it, I was expecting an album of forward thinking pop tracks after the hype (which to be fair, she has created most of that expectation herself) but so far we haven't had anything that I would say has stretched her musically at all.

She hasn't been has she? Born This Way got as much if not more stick and media attention than anyone for ripping off Express Yourself.

TBF i think that will come with some of the other songs on the album, (for example there are two versions of Americano, one of which she sings entirely in Spanish!), plus the snippet of Scheisse is like nothing i've heard before (even tho it is a remix). Government Hooker also sounds epic and unique - i just dont think she was ever going to release something so 'out-there' because the risk is too great.

I don't think its fair to judge musically the entire album on these singles as from what we've heard so far it will be varied (unlike Femme Fatale which sounds like the same song 15 times over)

A good portion of BTW's attention was for it ripping off Express Yourself (which I never got tbh ). The comparisons for TEOG are practically unhearable for me as well, it's only really that the chorus reminds me of Kelly Clarkson slightly, it's hardly strong enough to be called a rip-off!

Risk? Isn't that what it's all about. She should be taking risks.

Lots of songs can be compared to others. It's hard to create a truly unique song, there's just too many of them!

I'm not saying it's a rip off but she is supposed to be leading the pack - not following it.

Agreed but why sound like your contemporaries when she could sound like all sorts of mad lunatic geniuses from the past instead?

So true. I mean there are blatant rip-offs (Cascada's San Francisco/Katy Perry's California Gurls) but there are 'this song sounds a bit like something else' (Nicole Scherzinger's Right There/Rihanna's Te Amo or Rude Boy). It's not as if Gaga's gonna create a totally unique song that changes the face of music for every new single! She's the best musical act in the world imo, and makes great, (mostly) critically acclaimed pop.

She has sounded like mad lunatics from the past though, she "ripped-off" Madonna 'Express Yourself', remember?
