WOW the itunes chart is a hot mess right now with ongs flying up and down all over the place

It's starting to remind me of US iTunes now. When popular artists release songs and fly straight to the top of the iTunes chart each time. Except it's David Guetta and Take That instead of Taylor Swift and Lil Wayne.

Bruno Mars is at #4 and has not managed to get to #1 on itunes at all and is unlikely to get there anytime this week, and yet he has a massive chance of being #1 this week. I cant think of another situation where that has ever happened. The top of the charts is all over the place atm, and I love it. Sunday will be exciting..

He's at #2 though. He overtook David Guetta recently, who is now #4.

But yeah, Bruno (or Lady Gaga) will probably be #1, without being #1 on iTunes at all in the week! :o I think the last time that happened was When We Collide.

That said, Bruno could actually get iTunes #1, since Take That and Lady Gaga might be frontloaded.

1 Lady GaGa The Edge of Glory 1.000000

2 Bruno Mars The Lazy Song 0.903078

3 Take That Love Love 0.865267

4 David Guetta Where Them Girls At (feat. Nicki Minaj & Flo Rida) 0.841419

Chart questions for this week:

Can GaGa hit #1?

Can Take That debut in the top 10?

How far can Paul Hardcastle go?

Oops, I knew Gaga was at #1 and TT at #3 so assumed Bruno was at #4. Still, it has been #2 or #3 all week and yet it may actually get the #1 this week. The only times that I can think this has happened is with Unorthodox or something frontloaded in its first week and yet that only got to #1 for the first midweek. Matt Cardle managed to get #1 on itunes though after the final, in its first week though, didn't it?

Thank God Take That aren't number 1 (like I feared they would be by now) but they'll get there eventually. :nocheer:

This week I'm team GaGa or Bruno!

Chart questions for this week:

3. How far can Paul Hardcastle go?

1. Yes, I think she can. I think Bruno is likely though.

2. Yes, I think they will.

3. I think it'll scrape into the top 40. Hopefully. It's a great song.

Yeah, Matt Cardle got to #1 on iTunes. It's just its 2nd and 3rd weeks.

Other examples I can think of are the X Factor charity song from last year. It was in that chart battle with Nicole Scherzinger and Ellie Goudling. Nicole was #1 for the first half of the week, Ellie for the last half. XFF were #10 by the end of the week, but still got #1. But that was its 2nd week.

Another one I can think of is Missing You by the Saturdays. That only peaked #2 on iTunes, yet almost got #1. It was #1 in the Friday mid-weeks, and although it ended up at #3, it was only a few thousand away from #1, so I thought that was quite impressive.

Poker Face and Telephone also both got #1 without getting #1 on iTunes. In Telephone's first week at #1 the highest it got on iTunes was #3.

The only #1 (that actually got to #1) that I can think of which never got to #1 on iTunes at all, in any week, is Boys and Girls by Pixie Lott.

im gonna say that Gaga will NOT get #1 cause shes only been there for a day (and the song only just got released..yesterday?), and if Take That get #1 on iTunes by late tonight and stay there, that would give them 3 full days at #1 before Sun. So by default, the ONLY one to have stayed steady during the choppy mess lol, would have been Bruno, so I would think he'll take it?
Bruno does look likely tbh, this reminds me of Chipmunk-Jessie J-Gaga earlier in the year, Chipmunk was number 1 all week, Jessie J overtook on itunes at the last minute, and Gaga then went there with a massive lead- Jessie J ended up at number 1 because Chipmunk got caught up in all the mess  the same could happen to Guetta as he's been midweek number 1 from the start
I don't mind who gets it if it's out of Guetta and GaGa. Bruno's is incredibly dull and I've never been a fan of Take That.
 You're even stricter than me!!

But yeah, Ridin' Solo was a massive tune. It was definitely one of the most popular songs in my school in Winter 2009/2010. The version with a sample from Bittersweet Symphony leaked, and got insanely popular before a lot of people even knew of In My Head!

But yeah, I wouldn't have considered it a "mega-hit", but it was pretty huge, so I can see why people think that...

I think you have to be strict when bandying about terms like 'mega-hit', otherwise terms like 'hit' just lose all their meaning. Ridin' Solo was a fairly big hit, but nothing more.

take that for number 1! wouldn't it be great if another british act stopped the gaga machine in its tracks once again!!

Yeah. For what it's worth, I do agree with you:

See, now THAT was a good top 18!!! :D The one we've got now is good, sure, but pales in comparison. I won't be putting hearts next to half these songs in a year time... BRILLIANT top 5 too, although the only one of those that was a mega hit was OMG.

The songs in question when I said this were Good Times, OMG, Ridin' Solo, Candy and Stereo Love, so here I didn't even consider Ridin' Solo a "mega-hit" (despite the fact that it was one of the most popular songs in my school from December 2009 all the way up to like July 2010, so encompassed like a thid of my entire college career ).

Well, as long as the song is good! To be honest, I'm just relieved Judas didn't get #1. Born This Way and The Edge of Glory aren't that bad. After surviving through Grenade getting #1, I think I could cope if almost anything got #1.

Which proves my point about how rare it would be if Bruno got to #1 this week. The XFF, although they count, are a special case as they are X Factor and they had strong physicals. Telephone, I believe had two versions, with the other one near or even in the top 10, putting it #1 when combined, so I would count that, mabye you are right about Poker Face. The Saturdays didn't actually manage to get the #1 on the Sunday and along with Boys & Girls, were frontloaded as it was their first week, whereas this Bruno song is not frontloaded and as I said I can't think of any major examples of when a song has been official #1 without getting to #1 on itunes at all during the week that it is not their week of release or they aren't a special case like TXF, although you could be right about Poker Face but it would be the first time since then. It would be quite an achievement :o

This is as exciting as as the week when Adele,Jessie J and Lady Ga Ga made up the top 3. I would say the most likely two are Lady Ga Ga and Bruno, I don't think Take That will sell enough and David really has trailed off. I reckon narrowly Bruno.

I think TT have missed the boat for the # 1 spot on Sunday. If they had any chance I'd have thought they'd need to be at # 1 on iTunes by this morning - but they've stuck at #3 since about 10pm last night.

I've not heard the GaGa song yet!!

I'm being really nit-picky here, but Pixie Lott was technically on her 2nd week when she got #1. I think she was released on the Saturday, so she entered the chart at #70-something the week before. She had one of the largest climbs to #1, ever, actually!

Poker Face, also wasn't on its first week. Poker Face was on air, on sale, so debuted the chart at #20-something (based on its success in other countries, I guess a la Airplanes), and slowly climbed to #1 after like 2 months. Poker Face did get #1 on iTunes, but there was one particular week where it got the #1 and wasn't there on iTunes at all. Obviously Lady Gaga will never get chart runs like that ever again.

You're correct about everything else though. On the Telephone week, it was #3 and #11, so it was #1 if you combine it.
