I think that because of on air, on sale, I don't have time to appericate the songs as much as I want. For example, I haven't heard the new Lady Gaga/Take That tracks, I don't want to because I could get disappointed.

Anyone else got this problem?

Well I don't avoid not listening to new songs by artists in case I'm disappointed. The on air, on sale is good in some areas like Price Tag, Edge Of Glory by having them immediatly just leak and shoot up itunes as they are great songs but the downside is that they flopped Britney and The Feelings (not that they would've done extremely well anyway) to name a load more's return material.

^ On air, on sale basically favours the artists with massive fanbases, because all their fans buy the song asap and guarantee them to shoot up iTunes. Songs which people have to hear before buying them just hover lower down the chart for ages.

Adele and Jessie J were massively hyped by the media at the time of their #1s. They're good songs anyway, but it really helped them in that respect.

I'm guessing Britney has lost a huge fanbase then ^_^ - although i was a fan during Circus/Blackout etc, i just think she's really lost a hell of a lot of steam this era. The songs are aweful, no promotion, pretty standard videos, and they all sound fairly similar and too manufactured (on the album) IMO. And now i've completely gone off her music, (and can't even listen to songs i used to love  ).

I do agree that the onair/sale thing is a good thing, i hate when a song that is being massively played on radio gets to #1 months after u first heard it, just as soon as u start to hate the song. And i think it gives songs more longevity, as fans rush out to download it when its out, then it drops a little, then the mainstream begin to pick it up later.

Till the World Ends is a great example of all you just said tbh. It got to #11 on iTunes on release week (fanbase buy, which seems to be diminishing for her unfortunately :(), then fell out of the top 100 and a month or two later it's back in the top 40 due to normal buyers who like the song.

But on a personal level, I've really loved the Britney songs I've heard this era (Hold It Against Me, Till the World Ends, Big Fat Bass, S&M and I Wanna Go (which, btw, got to #1 in South Korea or something, beating Love the Way You Lie, Part II to the top!).

I remember in the US, I Need a Doctor debuted at #1 on iTunes, then a week later I saw it at like #35 on iTunes, then the week after that they started promoting it and then it was back at #2 (would've been #1, but Born This Way got released then). A bit of an extreme example, but yeah.

A problem with held back releases was that the charts didn't reflect the popularity of those songs, in a sense. Like We R Who We R was popular like 3 months before it was released. And Only Girl was popular late summer, but the charts suggest it only got popular late autumn.

Pitbull is #2 now! :o

Agree on what you said Eric. A lot of sales are lost too. Ke$a probably lost mire than 100k if sales .

I wonder if Pitbull could go to #1 next week... I think a second week for Bruno is more likely but it is really close at the top. Shame sales are starting to decrease (although they're not that bad... yet. Sales always drop in the summer I guess, I think 2011 is still better off than 2010 was at this point)

I'd be pissed if both Inna and AStan missed the top10...

Inna nearly got there but Aloe Blacc got there first. It's now falling so I think it's missed its chance. But given how well Mr Saxobeat is doing with limited airplay at the moment (only R1 B-List this week I think) and the fact it's such a great summery Eurodance song I'd be very surprised if it missed the top 10. I suppose it could end up stalling top 15 (maybe becoming the year's third great dance #13 after Hello and C'mon :P) but I think it will go top 10 eventually.

And SIU should at least give Inna a third top 20 hit - that's got to be close to the Romanian record

oh dear. I am starting to really like Jlo's 'I'm into you'. Some of the lyrics make me  (love controller?), but Lil Wayne's verse and constant "it's too late" have me hooked lol... may download it, but i can see myself hating it after a few more listens so will resist for the time lol
