discount, price offer. That's common in trade :D

But if they can they can still make money while selling them at 59p, then that's a good argument for selling *every* track at that price...

Nah. The promotion they can get by advertising '59p songs' on their front page will in many cases encourage people to buy more songs at 99p. It's a lost leader (although I don't know if it's a pure one, since I'm not sure how much money they're still making on the 59p songs or if they even are making money).

Also, if they reduced every song to 59p, they'd see a sharp reduction in profit. The increase in sales would only come at the beginning, then it would settle into an average volume of sales. It wouldn't make up for the lost 40p.

I'm pretty sure they still make a profit off a 59p sale.

Yeah, they make a HUGE profit! Apparently artists only get 3-7p profit for each download. (I don't have a valid source though, so don't quote me!)

Haven't a clue it's being tweeted numerous times on Twitter.

Only 3-7p?? Seriously? Although, I suppose, as the leading download site, they can afford to do that.

And that's without any promo!!

Spain is one country apparently.

Oh really I thought Spain was built up of a multitude of different countries.

Sales are not as high as they are in the UK, and a few downloads can easily get them top 200 in the Itunes store of a lot of countries.

In France for example, number 1 sells like 10k a week, and that's the biggest European market after the UK and Germany... So basically it's just foreign fans buying it, they're clearly not doing a Adele :P

Surely the amount artists make must surely vary depending on things like if they have writing credits on the track or not?

Nobodys claiming they're doing an Adele? Why compare?

These made me laugh! :P

It's really good that the Sats are doing great in Spain. I swear it's one of the most difficult European markets to crack - behind France and a few others. Artists who are normally huge in the UK and US normally seem to be the least successful in Spain out of the whole of Europe. :(

I would say France, Italy and Spain are the most difficult "major" European music industries to crack. Germany is pretty easy

Oh and my statement for the Spain is one country, I meant it so its meaning is, "Spain is one of the countries which has The Saturdays in the Top 200"
