Well true, we were discussing how the British artists cracking the states is more common now and Estelle just popped up as I remembered her for American Boy and then kinda faded..

As she did in the UK :P

Still in shock at how quickly Alexandra Stan's 'Mr. Saxobeat' has picked up sales - I expected it to peak at number 18/19 and then hang around much like Train and Lady Antebellum did in 2010.

As for the topic of Estelle, 'American Boy' is THE SONG of 2008 in my opinion - I believe it was number-one for 4/5 weeks consecutively and is a great example of collaborations that were just meant to be. Although she soon fell from the top 40 (in terms of appearances), the likes of 'One Love' with David Guetta was a really good song and 'Freak' featuring Kardinal Offishall from last year was actually pretty good as a stand-alone dance track.

Perhaps we'll see more from her one day, I mean Ms. Dynamite's making a slow comeback; something no one probably expected to happen.

Oh my goodness, since when has a euro-pop song been #2? Last one I can think of was Ida Corr's Let Me Think About It. Such a tune.

Hopefully Alexandra Stan can get #1, such a good song :D

Erm... Agnes 'Release Me'? Yolanda Be Cool 'We Speak No Americano' + many more. It happens most notably at the start of summer. There's always one or two BIG euro-pop/dance songs every year.

I wish Agnes' iTunes #1 had turned into an official #1 :(

I love the summer, it's the only time Euro music ever seems to gain a foothold in the chart in this country away from the 'sound of' artists all breaking through in the first quarter and X Factor/big comebacks domination in the final quarter.

55 of the top 200 are 59p :o

there's always the odd European song doing really well a year (Stereo Love, We No Speak Americano last year), when their big, they hang around for ages (look at Stereo Love's chart run), so I think number 1 or not, Mr Saxobeat will be a very big hit :D

The Calling seems to be moving the quickest out of the 59p songs apart from Chris Brown :o it started out at 101 then overtook a lot of the 59p songs ahead of it

the selection of songs they use for 59p is always very diverse - there's literally something for everyone

There's quite clearly an appetite for Europop/dance in the UK, as shown by the longevity of the examples you mentioned, but radio rarely promote them so it looks as if the UK couldn't care less about them most of the time. As soon as they get any sort of decent exposure though they smash, so I fail to see why radio don't pick up more of them...

We have quite a few europop songs in the chart. Infact, some of the biggest hits of last year were europop (Only Girl, Alejandro). And Mr. Saxobeat isn't the only europop song in the top 10 atm (Beautiful People). It's just that people don't tend to consider songs as europop if it's an artist from the US doing vocals on it, for some reason.

I thought We Speak No Americano was Australian music :P

Yeah, that's true. I always think of it as European for some reason though. I think simply because of how big a hit it was all over Europe, but it was big outside of Europe too, so I don't know...

Ugh at Love the Way You Lie falling.

I don't see Only Girl as euro-pop at all but Alejandro, I can get where it can be referred as euro-pop because it has this spanish thing.

The artists were from Australia, but it was a massive Euro hit (so it sort of counts as Euro music as it was made to be a smash in Europe)

Weren't YBC & DC the last Australian artist(s) to get number one since Kylie Minogue some time ago?

Well yeah, in Alejandro there's the lyrics (Alejandro, Fernando, Roberto), but even if you didn't know a whole lot about europop, the fact that people compared the song to past europop legends such as ABBA and Ace of Base (I think they're both Swedish, to be precise, but don't quote me on this) makes it quite clear.

Only Girl, think particularly the chorus. In terms of recent chart hits, perhaps compare it to Swedish House Mafia's (Sweden again ) two singles from last year. Infact, I believe the name of the synth that plays the chorus is a "gold saw" or something. Rihanna doesn't sing in Italian or anything, but I can see why some people say it's europop.

I think the song was massive in Australia too though. But I think for me, the reason why I assumed it was European was because I'm used to all music in charts coming from the US or the UK. If it's from neither, it's a dance song from Europe. We No Speak Americano was a dance song, so I think I naturally assumed Europe.

Please let's not confuse europop with dance or house music. They're different genres. We No Speak Americano and Mr Saxobeat aren't europop. Release Me definitely was.

Sorry. Point taken.

Another one I used to be guilty of doing was euro-dance and europop interchangeably. I ended up misleading a lot of people before I realized they weren't quite the same thing! :o

J-Lo up to #10!!!!!! :o :o

Yep. That's right guys. Lil Wayne is in the top 10 of UK iTunes. It's official. We're Americanized now.

But Alejandro did sound very euro-pop though.....

Anyways, omg I just discovered how awesome Eric Saade's Popular song is :o

It's not helping that you're using the Americans' bastardised spellings...

And anyway, Lil Wayne only flops here with his singles as the lead artist. He's had at least 3 UK top 10 hits as a feature (Survivor, Let It Rock, Down - am I forgetting anything?)
