We were already "Americanized" when British people started using z over s  it's realise and Americanised -_-

Thank you! <_< I really hate how the Americans had to make so many tiny changes to spelling just because their population is too stupid to pronounce the British spellings...

 12. California King Bed - Rihanna

I really hope this does a Te Amo and stalls now, it's terrible :(

Alexandra is #3 on iTunes though and needs to sell 2x on iTunes to catch up with Pitbull..

By the way, are there any confirmed acts on BGT finals yet? And when is the finals?

Nicole Scherzinger, Avril Lavigne and the cast of Shrek The Musical are all lined up to perform according to The Sun. The finals take place all next week.

So what you're saying is those three acts definitely will not be performing? :w00t:

I would argue that it was Taken by Trees' version of Sweet Child o Mine that started this wave, not Adele. Piano covers of well known songs tailor made for nostalgic commercials? Miss Taken by Trees deserves a Nobel Prize for Innovation* for her work in popularizing it.

*This is of course an overexaggeration used purely for comedic effect.

I disagree, firstly TBT'S SCOM wasn't exactly a huge hit (only got to #23) and secondly that was all the way back in 2009 and the sound proceeded to disappear until Adele at the start of this year.

You know The Sun is sometimes right though?

I don't think Adele has started a trend yet, because firstly, nothing has really changed. Birdy and Templecloud is honestly not a big deal. I think those two would've been as big as they are without Adele. If anything, I think Adele might've hindered Birdy in particular, in the sense that Someone Like You has basically eclipsed Skinny Love. I'm sure if Someone Like You wasn't being played on the radio every 10 minutes then Birdy would've gotten a bit more attention.

And I'm sure there were female songs with only a piano in that were massive hits in 2010 too.

Avril Lavinge  What a waste of a slot, I like her and her new song Smile but she's not relevant anymore really. WTH was very commercial and still missed top 10. Smile is less commercial, but I guess BGT should help it top 40. Nicole should go top 10 easily though  Amanda Holden's in Shrek The Musical, so it makes sense that they perform!

Yeah, I like Avril Lavigne, but I she's not someone I'd tune in to watch really. But then again, they had the likes of Pixie Lott and Miley Cyrus last year.

Turn It Up was a TOTAL TUNE though.

I would love it if Nicole performed though. Right There NEEDS to go top 10. Such a brilliant song. And it would literally be the best thing ever if 50 Cent turned up too.

Top 10 for CKB please

And still missed top 10 (because of f***ing football <_<)! That just deepened my hatred for the sport.

Why is California King Bed climbing so fast? I love Rihanna, but I really don't think it's a particularly good song. I'm happy for her success though, I suppose.

I think music videos for Man Down and Fly are being released soon, so she should have lots of songs in the top 40 again, and things will be back to normal. :)

Yeah, I can't believe such a brilliant song missed the top 10. If that couldn't get another top 10 hit for Pixie, I don't know what can. :(

'Sometimes' being the key word here.

Yeah, but the people who think it's ALWAYS wrong are just as foolish as the people that think it's ALWAYS right tbh. All sorts of manipulative things, usually involving money, go on behind the scenes with regards to press.

The lead single from her next album?

I thought that #11 was a very respectable peak for the 5th single from a platinum album!

Yeah, but it's such a good song! Let's face it, it could've done so much better. Adele has proven you can still get top 20 hits AFTER an album has sold 2 million.

Broken Arrow missed the top 10, but that was a poor song that got barely any promotion, so maybe she could do it. It's just sad though, because the more and more she waits, the less relevant she is becoming.

Its being used as a backing track in the new Nivea: 100 years ad. ^_^

Great to see CKB climbing! Really hope it goes top 10. It's being used in the nivea adverts, right? That should boost it up over the weekend. Really hope Rihanna performs next week. I'd much prefer Beyonce to just so she can gain more sales. :P

I swear you think every ballad is a poor song. (CKB, BA etc)

I do like some ballads. But yeah, overall it's not my favourite type of music. I like a lot of urban ballads (I'm a fan of Take a Bow and Unfaithful, for example), and ballads with dance beats (e.g. Robyn) I can quite like.

California King Bed is so cute in that advert though. Awwww.

How many 5th singles can you name that have done better than #11 from the past five years? I bet even Adele won't be able to drag her 5th single up that high when it's eventually released. Take That only managed one top ten from Progress because album sales killed off the chances of anything else doing well!

I love Pixie (been championing her since October 2008 when I sent Boys & Girls to BJSC a year before anybody had heard of her :cheer:) but she's always been fairly irrelevant to the music scene around her, I've never quite understood how she managed two pure pop #1's and an album that's coming close to a million sales in a completely unfriendly chart climate to her 'sound'. There haven't been any other pop stars of her ilk with such success for about 10 years and the likes of Billie Piper  I guess she found a niche and was reaping the rewards of being the only artist doing 'that thing' in 2009/2010. So when she does come back, I'm sure she'll get herself another hit or two, she'll be no more or less relevant than she ever was before!
