It never became unpopular, it's just that radio don't usually touch it, hence nobody's aware of the songs and they don't become hits or even get released here...

 

The odd time Radio 1 get on board with a Europop song and look what happens - Release Me, Mr Saxobeat, Cry For You, Hot, Stereo Love etc...

 

Radio 1 supports almost all Europop/dance songs that are really big hits in Europe, which incidentally are mostly pushed in the UK by AATW. So really AATW need to take more risks and push more not-massive-in-Europe Eurpop songs if we want to see more of that style of music in the UK charts. The public clearly does like those songs. (Alors On Danse being a bit of an exception, but that was still the biggest foreign-language hit for years)
