Amazed that On a Night Like This is either getting low points or even getting -2 point from people.

On A Night Like This is an OK record, and certainly it's dated much better than the flimsy handbag house of Spinning Around or the novelty Please Stay. But it is nevertheless a rather generic and uninspired track, and the turn of the century was FLOODED with dance acts who were genuinely doing it better.

Each to their own I suppose

Poor X-Press 2. :(

I did say I wasn't looking forward to 2000. And as I expected I haven't even heard 10 of these. In fact, I've only heard 5! (I may have heard some others without realising of course, but I only consciously know five of them). I think it'd be making a mockery to vote in this round to be honest.

Can I just give points to those 5? If so;

+15 Daft Punk - One More Time

+12 Bomfunk MC's - Freestyler

+10 blink-182 - All The Small Things

+8 Baha Men - Who Let The Dogs Out?

+6 S Club 7 - Reach

Those five are all at least decent I guess. But if you don't want to count these at all I don't blame you :P

X-Press 2 missed out by ONE point? To A1?!? Dear GOD.

Yes, because everyone on this board is a Kylie fan :heehee: This is a general music forum, not a Kylie forum.

I'm not a Kylie fan at all and On A Night Like This is just boring Kylie-by-numbers to me. Although the main reason I chucked it my -2 was because I knew it would be getting far more high points than it deserves and it was a vain attempt to knock it down a bit (which clearly won't work!)

You said you had never even heard the A1 song last round. It's actually great and (although I like X-Press 2 as well and gave it higher points than A1 in the 2002 round) I'm glad it got through as it proves that some people can see a quality pop song regardless of who it's by. And also that sometimes the odd forgotten gem can slip through in this game rather than the same old overplayed/overfamiliar stuff.

I haven't heard it, correct. But I've heard several of their other songs and they're all dreadful.

I'll let you off and count these :P, but just because I am doesn't mean everyone can go and do it if they only like x amount of songs - if I think people are doing it just because I'll make it clear to vote for at least 10 (+15 to +1) but preferably the -2 as well. :)

Agreed! The voting for 2002 was a bit of a shambles.. hey ho!

By the way, danielMFAO. What will you doing next in your 'Ultimate Number 1s or 2s Rate? Have you thought about doing a US 90s Number Ones Rate?

Well this is the UK chart forum, and because there's nothing left that hasn't been done after this, it will be the last of the ultimate series. If people want a second series in the international forum then I might be doing that, or I might just take a break or start a new competition (don't know yet but I won't be moving on too quickly unless I have a decision, but I think someone is doing a record of the decade comp in here, so I won't be doing a UK chart forum game too soon)

I was just stating that in general its a big fan favourite.

I haven't heard it, correct. But I've heard several of their other songs and they're all dreadful.

Caught In The Middle is NOTHING like their early cheesy crap. It's an acoustic mid-tempo pop song, and was widely regarded as being a huge and excellent departure for them at the time. I often see it pop up in 'guilty pleasure' countdowns, but imo it's only a 'guilty pleasure' because of their reputation - had a new singer/songwriter come out with it there'd be no issue over its quality.

A number of normally 'cheesy' acts have come out with one off critically acclaimed singles over the year - S Club 7 - Don't Stop Movin', Liberty X - Just A Little, Aqua - Turn Back Time, Boyzone - No Matter What...

Don't Stop Movin' and Just A Little were 'critically acclaimed'? They're just as cheesy and terrible as all the other SC7/LX singles IMO (although I do love DSM)
