Posted June 13, 201114 yr Just realised how almost half of the #1s this year are Dance, or at least, towards the Dance music. It could've been currently 11 weeks in a row that #1s are dancey. It was stopped by 'The Lazy Song' before currently 4 weeks of dance #1s. Week ending (Saturday): 09/04/2011 JENNIFER LOPEZ FT PITBULL ON THE FLOOR 2 23/04/2011 LMFAO/LAUREN BENNETT/GOONROCK PARTY ROCK ANTHEM 4 21/05/2011 BRUNO MARS THE LAZY SONG 1 28/05/2011 PITBULL/NE-YO/AFROJACK/NAYER GIVE ME EVERYTHING 3 18/06/2011 EXAMPLE CHANGED THE WAY YOU KISS ME 1 I also found out from the end of 2006, with 13 consecutive weeks of Pop (if 'A Moment Like This' is considered that): 02/12/2006 TAKE THAT PATIENCE 4 30/12/2006 LEONA LEWIS A MOMENT LIKE THIS 4 27/01/2007 MIKA GRACE KELLY 5 Have there been other times #1s were dominated by one genre for over 10 weeks? Sorry if I can't word out very well some that I'm typing here. LOL
June 13, 201114 yr In the early days of the charts, there was a far narrower range of music that was successful in the charts. I'd imagine the longest genre runs are back then, I can't think of many recently that beat 10 weeks.
June 13, 201114 yr I think genres are getting harder to define anyway e.g. the J-Lo or Pitbull songs could equally be classed as 'Urban' instead of 'Dance'. Although most 'Urban' music is becoming more and more like dance music anyway...
June 13, 201114 yr Well, there were 16 consecutive weeks dominated by whatever genre (Everything I Do) I Do It For You is :P
June 13, 201114 yr Author  TBH, I forgot to think a while ago of songs that has spent so long at #1 (like only 3 Pop songs at #1 in 13 consecutive weeks). Oh, well, I'll keep on experimenting chart records. :P Edited June 13, 201114 yr by FM11
June 13, 201114 yr I wonder if there has been a consecutive run of number ones by Country or Rock genre, or some genre that not many singers sing
June 13, 201114 yr I wonder if there has been a consecutive run of number ones by Country or Rock genre, or some genre that not many singers sing There certainly would've been for rock. It's not popular at the moment, but in the past it was one of the main genres in the chart. In 2009 there were 7 consecutive weeks where the #1 position was filled by either Number 1, Bonkers or Boom Boom Pow, which are all rap songs with electronic beats. And in 2008 there were 8 weeks of hip hop/dance-pop hybrids at #1 with American Boy and 4 Minutes. Edited June 13, 201114 yr by Eric_Blob
