Maybe I'm wrong about OMG then - I certainly don't remember it getting any airplay before charting.

The difference between OA/OS and an album track becoming a single is that people have a chance to get to know the latter before its release.

That's true. Another difference is that album tracks don't usually get the fanbase sales that stand-alone songs do, because the fans usually buy the album instead.

Although I still think they're similar enough to group together. It's only really with artists like Lady Gaga where it makes a huge difference. The new LMFAO song, for example, may aswell be an album track.

Ouch for Nerina, it was top 10 on Tues mids. I'm expecting the albums chart to change dramatically over the next 2 days with Father's Day on Sunday, Paul Simon could still end up top 5, pushing Lady Gaga out, unless the Bad Meets Evil album picks up a little bit more. ELO and Franke Laine could still climb a little bit more.

Great to see Example staying put for another week, it seems acts are staying longer at #1. I don't know what's out next week that could challenge Example at #1, the only track I can think of is "Lighters" from Bad Meets Evil feat. Bruno Mars which seems to be climbing on iTunes. And obviously the new track from Katy Perry. I think its going to be a bit of a dull week with hardly any new entries, as the new track from Katy Perry and Bad Meets Evil is going to chart this Sunday.

Ideally I love to see Ed Sheeran at #1 but I can't see that happening after this week.

Bruno's bit in Lighters really sounds a lot like he's regurgitated his part from Nothin' On You

Nice to see Ed sticking and Caro climbing to a new peak again ! I'm not overly concerned for Nerina and Sophie - I bought them both but they've both had FAR better albums than these two.

SET FIRE TO THE RAIN TOP 30. :w00t: #18 on iTunes could be higher come Sunday!

Ahhhh really hope RITD stays top 40, #39! Could it hold on even #40? #41 on iTunes atm.

19 back to #4  The longevity of Adele's albums is unreal. :w00t:

who is buying the adele albums???

its starting to become ridiculous that no artist can knock off an album thats been out for months, with the exception being just take that, gaga, and the foo.

i do wonder if she would have done this well if she had released her album during the xmas period. chances are it wouldnt have gone number 1 with take that dominating throughout christmas and rihanna picking up the mantle up to the point of 21's release...i wonder if she'll release her next album at christmas, then we'll see how she does against the big boys!

Against the big boys? Are you for real? She's kept some of the BIGGEST artists from going #1, and the 3 who have taken her off cant even stay higher then her for more then a few weeks. (Take That being the 3rd on Sunday and i'm sure they wont stay higher then 21 for more then a few weeks). If she released in the xmas period who knows sales may have been even BIGGER then this, if thats even possible.

Her sales for both albums are phenomenal, and its not even over, we still have the biggest sales months to come!

yeahh that is a fair point, her sales could have been far bigger but it could have also worked the other way. take that were selling over 200k a week throughout the xmas period and apart from her first week she didnt cross the 200k mark. even rihanna was shipping records in the 100k's....but yeahh adele could have done really well sales wise i just don't think she would have gone top of the charts during that period.

i actually like adele, im just bemused that her album is still there or thereabouts. its also nice to see her repping the uk over in the states!

Yeah, I see where you're coming from as in , who is still buying this record? Its amazing there is still so much interest in the album when its already sold 2,500,000+ copies in such a short space of time. (and that is legally! Imagine the nubers of illegal downloads! Every househould could own a copy ) I would not be surprised with it becoming one of the biggest albums of all time in the UK, and by any UK artist WW.

Its amazing that 19 is holding up so well, with MYFML not really round anymore, it must be selling on name alone and on the back of 21 still. :D

TT will be the fourth - Arctic Monkeys are number one at the moment.

^Oh yeh ofcourse forth, thanks.

I really want Jessie to make #1 at some stage with her album but dont see it happening, unless Who You Are peformance on X Factor (I am just guessing ) shoots it to #1! :P

Incorrect, she sold 208k on week 1 but then sold 257k on week 10 (with Mothers' Day helping a lot ofc). And she had far more consecutive weeks over 100k (12) than TT did despite not releasing at Xmas. If she did release at the festive period it may well have even higher sales. 2.5 million in around 5 months for a January release is absolutely astounding and as hard as you try you cannot downplay that success.

-x-

Anyway, great to see Ed holding on at 3, SHM back in the top 20, TT in the top 25 and SFTTR top 30 :w00t:

And OH MY at GaGa now falling behind 19  Could easily end up otuside the top 5, as M!key said Paul Simon will probably get a massive boost with Fathers' Day on Sunday. 21 and 19 could also benefit from that actually. And TT. Dunno if Arctcis will too but if not 19 could get back in the top 3 yet again!

Adele basically has Bob Dylan and the X Factor to thank for her career revival

Adele basically has Bob Dylan and the X Factor to thank for her career revival

Reason?

Adele basically has Bob Dylan and the X Factor to thank for her career revival

They've certainly helped, but this era would've been massive for her anyway, I think.

In the US, for example, Make You Feel My Love didn't get popular (although I have seen it in the top 100 on iTunes there a few times), and there's no X Factor, but Rolling in the Deep has been #1 on iTunes there for like 2 months now, and is the 3rd biggest song of the year (behind E.T. and Forget You). And she's had the biggest album of the year too.

In other countries too, she's been massive. I think what you mentioned has helped her, but I think she'd've been very successful anyway.

You're a little behind there :P It's now down to #4 (although it's not falling that quickly, it's just been overtaken by Katy, LMFAO and Pitbull in quick succession) and it's now overtaken FY! into secong place on the digital YTDs. She's 229k behind Perry and on the last chart Adele sold 224k and Katy sold 124k - so 3 more weeks, 4 at absolute maximum and RITD should easily have the crown.

The use of Make You Feel My Love was certainly very helpful. It put her back in the public eye at just the right time. It's hard to tell how much of the success of 21 elsewhere is a direct result of its success here.
