As many of us fans agree that Leona's album campaigns have been a disaster in terms of single releases, this is what I would have done if I was her record label.

The Spirit Era - October 2007

Bleeding Love - October 2007

Angel - January 2008

Take A Bow - April 2008

These 3 singles would have secured Leona with a solid fanbase. Bleeding Love was the hit she needed to kick start her career and was a smash hit all over the world. Angel, although wasn't a favourite, would have kept the fans happy as she was continuing with the ballads, but also having hints of uptempo to gain new fans. I would have released Take A Bow as the 3rd single as that was a fan favourite and would have set the charts alight.

I would then have re-released Spirit with the original c.d plus 4 extra songs and a short documentary on her rise to fame. The new tracks would have been:

- Forgive Me

- Run

- Misses Glass

- Nowhere Left To Go (ft cassidy)

I would then have released the following singles:

Forgive me - September 2008

Run - December 2008

Forgive Me was the perfect uptempo song that suited Leona. It showed the fans she was capable of doing uptempo's and having a bit more of a personality. Ending the era with Run was absolute genius. From the moment she done Radio 1 Live Lounge, it was destined to be a single.

The Echo Era - November 2009

Cant Breathe - November 2009

I Got You - February 2010

Outta My Head - May 2010

To kick start the 2nd era, I would have had Leona release another ballad as that's where her strengths lie. Cant Breathe was the song that should have been released as the lead single as her vocals are absolutely amazing. I would have kept I Got You as the 2nd single as it was radio-friendly and was the perfect mid-tempo to be released around that time of year. Outta My Head should have been the 3rd single. It was a genuine pop classic that could have seen Leona reach new heights.

For the re-release of Echo, I would have included a 2nd c.d and included the following 8 songs:

- Scene Of The Crime

- Breaking Into Pieces

- Perfection

- Let Somebody Love You

- Danger Made Me

- Perfect Stranger

- A Thousand Lights

- I See You

To make sure the re-release went smoothingly, I would have released the 2 following singles:

Perfection - August 2010

Scene Of The Crime - November 2010

Perfection would have been the perfect single to kick off the re-release as it's a ballad, which Leona is stronger with. Perfection also has the summery vibe, so would have been a great summer single. Scene Of The Crime should have been the 2nd single from the re-release of Echo. It has that R&B feeling, something which I think suits Leona's voice. It would have also given Leona a chance to do a killer performance on The X Factor. The other 6 songs on the re-release of Echo wouldn't have been released as it would have enticed more people to buy the album.

The 8 songs on the re-release of Echo would have given her fans an indication of what album 3 would sound like.

Unfortunately I can definitely seeing a similar topic for the 3rd album too...
I agree that she should have gone with Outta My Head as a single at some point. Whether or not I agree with the choices made during the first album campaign, it worked well so that doesn't really matter. The Echo campaign was a disaster though, Happy was literally THE worst possible lead single choice.
She should of released Stop Crying Your Heart Out - that seemed to be a fan fave (and better than the original IMO) and she even performed it on X Factor (which made me think she was releasing it at the time)

It was a limp and lifeless cover version, unlike that of 'Run'.

'Outta My Head' for me was one of the best pop songs of modern times, it pains me that they gave her a song of that calibre and just let it go to waste. I'd have liked to see a release of 'Whatever It Takes' from the first album too, but not to the same degree I wanted 'Outta My Head' released.

Totally agree, the first era didn't go too badly - but the second era was a disaster, I'd've gone for:

Bleeding Love [Oct 07]

Take A Bow [Dec 07]

Better In Time/Footprints In The Sand [Mar 08]

Angel [Jun 08]

Forgive Me [Aug 08]

Run [Nov 08]

[Re-release]

Happy [Oct 09]

Outta My Head [Dec 09] - could've easily gone top 5 in January, I think

I See You [Feb 10] - would've been huge had it been properly released! Could've led to a re-release too

I agree that Outta My Head should have been released at some point, I was devastated that it wasn't, its easily the best track from Echo

I think Outta My Head should have been the lead single from Echo ffs! It really annoys me how badly that album was handled. It is sublime :( I See You should have been added as a bonus track and released as a standalone single when Avatar was released to push album sales over Xmas, and then I would have released Naked, Happy and I Got You afterwards

Spirit was handled much better thankfully, the only issue I had was that Take a Bow wasnt released in the summer. But at least Bleeding Love and Better in Time/Footprints were ideal choices, and of course Run from the deluxe

The Spirit era was near-perfect singles wise imo (I would've like Whatever It Takes to have been a single too, but oh well) but Echo was awfully handled. Happy is still a 9.5/10, and I Got You a 9, but I'd have had Outta My Head as lead, followed by Happy then Love Letter/Naked/Can't Breathe.
As much as I like "Happy", I wouldn't have released it at all. Hopefully her third era is better handled.

Single releases for each era should've been:

Spirit

Oct 2007 - Bleeding Love

Mar 2008 - Better In Time (the tour arrangement though)

Jun 2008 - Take A Bow

Oct 2008 - Forgive Me

Dec 2008 - Run

Echo

Nov 2009 - Happy

Dec 2009 - Outta My Head (performance on XF final, video released a week after Happy's physically released)

Mar 2010 - Can't Breathe

Jun 2010 - Don't Let Me Down (feat. Justin Timberlake)

Oct 2010 - Scene of the Crime (off album re-release)

Nonono. Angel as a single? That would have been ridiculous.

SceneofSixCrimes has got it spot on, i completely agree with those single releases in that order!

Nothing was wrong with Spirit, only that Take A Bow was not released, that DID give her her solid fanbase and WW success. :)

Happy is one of the best, and most emotional, powerful and relateable songs of the last decade, its an amazing ballad, i'm still happy with it being a lead single and could see why it was. The downfall was IGY being a single, i mean really? Nice album song but CANT BREATHE NAKED BROKEN OUTTA MY HEAD..not sure what happened there..

and then unfortunately no 3rd single :(

3rd Album is going to be BIG. I know it. ^_^

I'm thinking

Bleeding love

Better in time

Footprints in the sand

Homeless

Run

Can't breathe

Happy

Outta my head

(Naked or Broken would be great, too)

Hurt

Trouble

Glassheart

Unlove me

Whyyy was Glassherat not the lead single? It's a TUNE and a half, and on loud speakers it sounds amazing!

I'm so sad that everyone and their dog is keen on flushing Leona's career. She should be this generation's Whitney Houston.

Echo and Glassheart were badly handled. They seemed to give up on Echo very quickly following the luke warm reaction to happy and underperforming follow up single. The album still made double platinum status and with the right releases could have done even better.

Feb 2010: Don't Let Me Down

Jun 2010: Love Letter

Sep 2010: Scene of the Crime [followed by re-released album]

Dec 2010: Stay

Glassheart

Apr 2012: Come Alive

Sep 2012: Trouble (feat. Childish Gambino) [followed by album release]

Nov 2012: Glassheart

Christmas, with Love

Oct 2013: One More Sleep [with XF performance, followed by album release (both in first week of November)]

Dec 2013: Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) [with XF final performance/Christmas week]

If she had come back with "Outta My Head" as the first single from "Echo"... she would be in a very different place now as an artist.

Exactly, followed by launching the next album with Glassheart. USA got bored of her through ballad, ballad, ballad. Uk got bored of the bad release strategies. Why didn't they respond to this?
