Fairly loose definition of "rock" to include Kid Rock and Uncle Kracker, to name but two. You seem to have left off Number 20 by the way.

Thanks, Number 20 added! I agree that it is a very loose definition but that's true of so many of these lists. At least we have some sales information.

Hmm, interesting. I'm a little surprised "Take A Look Around" wasn't in the top 20 given it had just as good a chart run as "Rollin'", minus the two weeks at #1 with low-ish sales.

4Music were playing rock music?!?! :o  :o

Seriously though, if rock music ever got popular again, by which I mean in terms of the singles chart, (which probably will happen in a few years I would imagine), then this list would look completely different, with the higher sales and everything. Look at Fire by Kasabian for example. The song wasn't that big, but 2009 being a good sales year gets it in to the top 20.

My favourite songs in that list would be Teenage Dirtbag and Welcome to the Black Parade (after the first 90 seconds) for sure.

Pretty good to see a song as recent as 2009 make this list. Fire really was a bit of an odd song to be a big hit in 2009 to be honest :o

But yeah, some of these aren't rock at all. Bloodhound Gang?!?

It really is stunning when one looks at the Kings of Leon on a list like this with those sales, having known the band since 2003. I can't image that anyone the planet predicted a million seller from them back then. Even though I don't particularly like the songs they are to be congratulated.
At the start of this year the OCC said that only three of last year's top 100 best sellers were classified as rock - from Journey, Florence + The Machine and Train. At least two of those sold over 300,000 but they are not in this list. So, either they have used a different definition of "rock" or the list is at least a year old.

At least this thread hasn't (yet) degenerated into a slagging-off Rockstar-athon. :)

No wonder Rock isn't doing well now, I only like two of that list and I definitely wouldn't even class one of them as rock (ASL).

Do they not count The Killers then? I thought 'Human' sold really well and thought 'Mr Brightside' was one of the biggest catalogue download sellers?

Also Razorlight, Coldplay and Snow Patrol all missing. If your counting Uncle Kracker and Bloodhound Gang, then surley they count

I'm suprised Bon Jovi sold 355k of it's My Life :o . A great track that it is, I didn't think it spent long in the Top 40.

Bon Jovi's 'It's My Life' Chart Run was

3-8-14-16-17-25-32-36-38-45-56-65-68

It actually re-entered the Top75 last November at No62 and dropped twelve places a week later before dropped out of the Top75 altogether

Some of these have sold really well on downloads - 'Teenage Dirtbag' sold less than 555k in 2001 for instance, and Nickelback's HYRM around 420k in 2002 I think. And Evanescence only sold about 300k in 2003. Seems like Dakota and The Bad Touch have cleared 100k downloads too.

If Florence is rock then The Bloodhound Gang are! In any case most of the list is just pop with the occasional riff. But nice to see the list!
