I thought Cascada wasn't out for another couple of weeks?

We all thought so... But now it's kinda on air/on sale release. Album out tomorrow too!

No, the album has been released today.

This On Air/On Sale thing is killing the sales and peak of new releases....

OA/OS *increases* sales, it doesn't kill them. Or at least it should increase sales. Something has gone horribly wrong if it doesn't.

I disagree I think it usually decreases sales tbh! It just depends on the radio support.

Realistically do you see singles which go On Air/On Sale planned release gain sales? Judas didn't, Run The World (Girls) didn't, Notorious didn't, San Francisco won't and many others...

A typical OA/OS release is a high debut (usually their peak) and then plummet down the chart before a video is made/additional promotion/increase airplay which can help it rebound back up to some point and then fall again...

Example's song was held back for quite few months and look where it's going.....selling more than the OA/OS strategy.

As I said, if it's decreasing sales then something is going wrong. The whole point of OA/OS is to prevent piracy and increase sales.

Judas did, Run The World did, Notorious has been out for less than a month and San Francisco isn't OA/OS, they've just released the album stupidly early.

It might decrease the biggest sales week but overall, sales should be higher.

The reason it looks like sales are smaller is because they'll be spread out over a longer period of time (most likely causing songs to have lower peaks also).

Hopefully SoundGirl get top 40, seeing as Parade are looking like they might... Nice to see Foster The People and Vato Gonzalez top 40, and yay for Jason top 10

When you say it did, only the video release has helped the song rebound some bit and then it plummets again.

The OA/OS just decreases sales as supposed to "increase" sales like the record labels have put it. That's what I think of it anyways

The OA/OS thing makes it so only the hardcore fans buy the song in the first week and then it plummets before the casual fans catches on. A song gaining airplay for a month or a bit and music video station plays before being released for download usually does better.

I agree that on air, on sale can hurt the peaks of songs. You get songs like Party Rock Anthem and Give Me Everything hogging up the top of the chart for months, so all the other songs have to settle for their peak of #6 or #8 or whatever, whilst they probably could've gotten to the top if they were held back, so they could have massive first-week sales like Grenade, On the Floor, Changed the Way You Kissed Me, etc.

However, it should increase the sales overall.

'A video is made' was one of your examples of things to make them reclimb - don't go back on yourself there.

And for the third time, if OA/OS is decreasing sales then it's not working because that is the exact opposite of what it's there to achieve.

Held-back songs peak higher and have a better peak sales week but they also drop faster (or at least they theoretically should) from their peak.

Sales are far more important than peak though (apart from a few boybands/girlbands who seem to only care about peaks - Westlife, JLS, The Saturdays, McFly etc.)

Yeah, I agree. And I think that's the way the record labels see it too (well, it obviously must be, if they're doing it this way ). They just want more money, so (using Born This Way as an example) they'd rather see Born This Way sell 700,000 and peak at #3 than sell 500,000 and peak at #1, for example, even though the fans might prefer the latter scenario.

The thing with 'Party Rock Anthem' and 'Give Me Everything' though is that these two tracks progressed up the chart before hitting the no. 1 spot. If anything, it's a true reflection of how the tracks grew in popularity.

Surely if a track is popular enough it will eventually top the chart in a similar way too? :D On the flip side, I do wonder how tracks like 'On The Floor' and 'Changed The Way You Kiss Me' would've done had they been given the OA/OS treatment. I think 'Grenade' was a surefire #1 hit though - it would've gone to no. 1 anyways I reckon. 'Price Tag' was given the OA/OS treatment and went straight to no. 1 albeit in a very close race to the no. 1 spot.

Cascada's single isn't out until July 4th but you can download it off the album. Stupid really.

Interesting they have released the digital album on the Sunday

06. Jason Derulo - Don't Wanna Go Home

23. Vato Gonzales - Badman Riddim (Away to Overtake Saturdays :( )

28. Bad Meets Evil & Bruno Mars - Lighters

34. Foster The People - Pumped Up Kicks

48. Parade - Perfume

82. SoundGirl - Don't Know Why

If Foster The People, Parade & Soundgirl make the top 40 this week it will be around 30-40. I'm Glad that Parade are flopping though as despite Louder getting top 10 it had awful overall sales!

Is Bounce close to over taking Example? Because if he is I think if he reaches #1 he may get #1 next week (as I think Example will have it today) with the #1 boost may really help it, or it may be front loaded and start dropping this week...

Jason Derulo doing really really well! I think the video helps out the song, its nothing special just same old party kinda video, but it still helps and has been supported really well on TV recently, I think top 5 for sure, at a push top 3. #6 and its only 4:30pm so we'll see..

Bounce is at 3 behind Pitbull atm, I think he's missed his chance

Oh yeah! Definitely missed his chance then i'd say too. So its either another week for Example or could Pitbull climb back up :o I dont see Derulo going all the way to #1..

SFTTR for #1. Need a video soon though!

Jason Derulo wont be going to number one he's not even on 50% yet and this is usually when sales are at there highest! I think he will peak at around #3 with Pitbull at #2 as he will have Give me Everything cherry picked form his album aswell tomorrow. Example will remain number one.
