I'd heard 'Rope' quite a few times prior to me charting the song. Perhaps being their lead single from the new album there was more of a buzz surrounding the single. I only listened to 'Walk' for the first time on Thursday evening. So yes, it looks like I like it less when it's actually more I case of me hardly hearing it until recently.

Thing is, like Foo Fighters most rock groups now are really struggling to get the chart success they achieved only 5 years ago. They're still very much album sellers but even Foo Fighters album has massively tailed off despite successfully going to no. 1 when released. As for My Chemical Romance, my mate a work bought their album back in March and let me borrow it over one weekend. Therefore each of their singles so far has had some impact purely because I'm already aware of the songs.

As for Hush Hush, I really want it to do better, but it doesn't seem to be getting any airplay at all. Not that I've seen. And the album wasn't a roaring success. I just think a lot of people who bought Happiness and Good Girl just aren't aware of its existence, unfortunately.

Ah! That will explain a lot then. I don't listen to Radio 1 - well, I don't exactly listen to radio full stop. I'm much happier listening to mp3s of songs I like. You cut out the DJ talking nonsense and cut out all the crap music I don't enjoy listening to. MP3 players FTW!!!

 

...but yes, that ultimately means I'd not heard 'Walk'. I haven't bought Foo Fighters album (yet) so I can only appreciate 'Rope' and I can think how it goes without the aid of YouTube. "give me some rope I'm going out of my head..." :D

 

'Hush Hush' seems to have been getting a reasonable amount of airplay on the music channels. In fact, I was watching The Box yesterday evening counting down the "Top 10 Videos Of The Day" (or something along these lines) and Alexis was the no. 3 track.

Like I commented in GD's chart thread, it's so refreshing to hear a song like 'The A Team' and see it doing really well this week in the UK charts. The fact Ed is mates with Example and all these other popular artists is irrelevant (to me!!! :P ) as his style is so different and could've gone against him. I also think Ed Sheeran has a strong chance of climbing. My top 5 once again is so strong after last weeks top 4 consisted of new entries.

Again, I wou;d've expected Suzie McNeil to have charted higher but I take into account all the other tracks I'm already charting. Before I know it, the track ends up lower than I'd expected. Same applies to Ludovico Einaudi and I genuinely thought 'I Giorni' was likely to climb but it's ended up slipping one place instead.

 

25 (29) Foster The People - Pumped Up Kicks (27-26-24-17-16-26-33-34-29-29-25) [11 wks] This has suddenly clicked with me after a few weeks, I've only just charted it in my personal chart, I was on the fence when I first heard it on UP, I didn't even vote for it.

 

The chart run here is extremely bizzare and very un-Hits like. Obviously its appearance in UP helped boost the song. Iirc, I gave it 4 points but it's grown on me since UP finished and has become a strong longstayer in my chart despite only peaking at #16. That's not to say 'Pumped Up Kicks' won't reach a new peak - by the looks of this chart run, clearly anything could happen. :lol:

The quality of BJSC XXXIV was serously brilliant. So many brilliant songs entered into that contest - and thus a lot of tracks making it into my chart. I still think another 5 tracks from the final will enter my chart but most likely won't make the top 20.

'The A Team' is an excellent debut single from Ed and whilst I've yet to even start considering the order of my next chart, I'm sure this is looking set to climb.

 

10 (09) Agnes Obel - Riverside (01-01-01-01-03-03-05-09-10) [9 wks] Decent chart run for this! Did you ever get round to hearing her album/any other songs

 

I did check out a couple of other songs on YouTube a while back. I think one was an instrumental that made an appearance in your chart iirc? I'm still loving 'Riverside' even though BJSC XXXIII is just a distant memory now. This song never gets old... ^_^

 

40 (--) Black Eyed Peas - Don't Stop The Party (40) [1 wk] Crap :lol: I blame them entirely for the 'club banger' domination and this is one of the very worst examples of the genre that I've heard, I can't hear a song in here...

 

This is one of the weakest Black Eyed Peas singles without a doubt. Then again, they've had quite a few near misses that just about scraped in for its solitary week. I remember 'My Humps' made it to something like no. 35 in my chart and the following week I actually thought "why?". :lol: At least no. 40 is proper borderline for an ok/average. I still think the recent material from BEP isn't "new material" (technically) but actually the tracks that weren't good enough for the last era 'The E.N.D.'. I can't even begin to compare this "song" to the glorious 'I Gotta Feeling' which was brilliant.

I quite like this but haven't quite charted it... yet? It's ever so slightly too generic for me to love it, it seems to me as though every other song these days has a verse/chorus/dance breakdown structure of some sort. Still, as far as UK #1s go these days, it's pretty good.

 

02 (03) Le Prix & Johan Agebjörn feat. Lake Heartbeat - Watch The World Go By (03-02) [2 wks]

#2!!! :o OMG, climb climb climb Johan! Glad you're still liking this, you seem to be the songs biggest champion from the contest (well, me aside obviously!!!) - I was expecting a #10 peak or so when I saw it third in your pre-release chart so this is quite the success, yay! A shame it's going to miss out by 1 spot though. You'll have noticed that I didn't get round to entering a follow up this time, I must try harder for the next contest!

 

03 (02) Coldplay - Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall (02-03) [2 wks]

This is okay. Another I haven't charted yet and, tbh, I haven't given it that many plays yet either - I blame the totally awful title for that!

 

04 (04) SX - Black Video (04-04) [2 wks]

This is on it's way to being the second Hits inspired top 10 hit for me. :o It keeps growing on me even now, a really good choice from you last time around - I'll have to have a peek at the Herzebanian hosted selection to see if you've continued your good streak. :D

Lovely track, third of three great singles from this album and I make that three #1s for you now? Adele is certainly dominating your chart this year. :o

I think this is Example's best single to date. Bizarrely 'Kickstarts' has been his least successful single in my chart despite being one of his most successful tracks. It just didn't have that impact to make think " :D " like this song does. As soon as that synth line starts, I get that " :D " feeling.

'Watch The World Go By' is an absolute gem and easily one of the best tracks I've discoverd via BJSC. Still enjoy listening to this so there's going to be plenty of chart life in this song for a while.

I really like the new Coldplay single - don't let the silly title put you off. I've mentioned this elsewhere but their influenced of dance and electronica really seems to enhance their songs giving them more depth and dynamics to the song. If it was just guitar, bass and drums it'd be just another run-of-the-mill rock song.

Marvelous!!! :D I'm exactly the same and even though it looks like I'm being biased (which is true to an extent :D ), 'Black Video' still amazes me. The whole song overall really is quite magical. I can't describe what I love so much about this but it's such a brilliant song. I'm glad you approve and have found a new discovery in this song. Like with you and 'With Every Heartbeat', if it spends 11 weeks at no. 1 in my chart, it might be UK #1 in August. :D

It is indeed. Adele really has taken the world by strom but she's got the talent and quality of '21' to back everything up. Adele really deserves all the success she's been getting, and will no doubt continue to get. I just hope Adele's record company don't ruin everything by giving her 12 month deadline to write, record and released album #3. Otherwise that could be career suicide come 2012.

I guess this isn't really the type of music you enjoy but I like its cheesey charm. It's actually grown on me more since the contest - poor 'Drama Queen' got more votes when I voted but it's Eric Amarillo that's charted higher. :D

For me, this is Lady GaGa's best single since 'Bad Romance'. 'Born This Way' could've been better without the hidious raps and as for 'Judas', I really tried to like it but I just never understood that song and it limped 09-08-15-23-OUT in my chart. Even 'LoveGame' spent more weeks in my top 40 despite peaking at #10. :lol:

'Hey There Dililah', 'Hey Soul Sister', 'I'm Yours', etc... you're right, the list continues when you think about it. However, this is by a British artist and has charted the highest in the UK from those example mentioned. From a British point of view. it is refreshing to the charts...

:angry: Ok, tacky lyrics aside I still really like this. I much prefer this to the "custom made for the American market" 'What's My Name' which as soon as I heard it, I knew it'd get bored of it fast - and I did. The song doesn't appeal to me anywhere near as much as even 'California King Bed'.

I'm surprised this hasn't taken off as I'm in agreement with you. 'Happiness' was quite classy for its type of song whilst 'Good Girl' was a bit weak in comparison.

Patrick Wolf has had a few hits in my top 20 over the years. Iirc, his first hit in my chart was 'The Magic Position' which peaked at #10 fo me.

I'm really underwhelmed by this. It sounds rushed and uncomplete. Probably because it is? Makes me think of the incident where Calvin Harris told his record executives he "lost his laptop" to gain extra to work on an album - it just meant he got more time to tweak the tracks he'd already done. Shame it didn't happen this time round as to me, it sounds like it could've been better than it is.

I actually charted this not long after the results of UPV and considering I only gave it small points, it's become the longest stayer in my top 40 and showing no signs of leaving the chart either. 11 weeks in my chart with a peak (so far) of #16 is very impressive.
