June 26, 201114 yr 8/1 Batidas: Brooke Fraser - Something In The Water Liking my new odds from RontBet considering this was 18/1 initially. I see the odds for UnoShake have seriously been slashed though - it still remains my tip to win.
June 26, 201114 yr Lovely odds from both sets! Hopefully I can do slightly better and get inside the top 5 for the first time in my BJSC history! I would really love that with Misty too

June 27, 201114 yr Author You have a heart of stone JamesP  I've fallen too head over heels in love with it to employ any sort of objectivity here I'm afraid, the bridge and her wistful vocals get me every time. THAT SAID, I'd be surprised at it winning. This is a straight fight between Britt Love, Havana Brown and Wynter Gordon - although I'm also half expecting one of these to 'do a Le Kid'...
June 27, 201114 yr Chart Music is AMAZEBALLZ. For me it's the pathos of the 80s synths that does it. Already top 10 in Numayania :o
June 27, 201114 yr Why is Chart Music so high everywhere? I love Rich but I don't get the song :( It's got a real The Girl and the Robt vibe for me, which is why I think it'll do well.
June 27, 201114 yr I also don't quite get the love for Chart Music. I wouldn't be surprised if Wynter Gordon did a Le Kid, as I don't think it's anywhere near the quality of Dirty Talk or Til Death, which are both fantastic. On the opposite end is Britt Love, whose song I think is really good even though Mini Viva did absolutely nothing for me.
June 27, 201114 yr It's got a real The Girl and the Robt vibe for me, which is why I think it'll do well. Ah, see I have an overwhelming dislike for that song too.
June 27, 201114 yr Author I don't think it's much like The Girl & The Robot personally...there's a certain other song that wins the Robyn tribute award for XXXV and it's not All My Life :P As Ghosty pointed out somewhere else, it's more similar to my entry to BJSCVIII, Thermostatic's Driving, which didn't exactly light up the scoreboard, hence why I'm not expecting Chart Music to win. As far as I'm concerned, Britt Love's had this contest sewn up from the moment it leaked - BUT that was before I noticed the overwhelming fanbase gathering around Havana Brown, so who knows

I think the problem with Thermostatic was that it was a little bit ahead of it's time and as a result was quite indie back then. The fem-electro sound really took off the following year and still has a strong following now, maybe not in the charts, but definitely on forums such as this. This is why I'm putting Chart Music as joint favourite as it has huge crossover appeal.
June 27, 201114 yr Why is Chart Music so high everywhere? I love Rich but I don't get the song :( It's because I think it will do well, I do like the song, but it isn't particularly amazing.

This is why I'm putting Chart Music as joint favourite as it has huge crossover appeal. Although perhaps not judging by the last few comments! But whatever, each to their own - I still think that it's a beautiful and incredibly warm piece of electro-pop but I'm biased :P As for Thermostatic, I guess it was just a bit subtle, there was certainly some decent fem-electro doing well in the contest at the time, Ladyhawke for example. Driving wasn't massively instant but I did very much grow to love it. I did notice that Chart Music are top 5 in AH Gold's personal chart this week, I wonder where he discovered it :o Shame he doesn't take part in BJSC any more! As an aside, looking at some of the qualifiers to the final and the tastes of some of the new/returning countries, pure pop definitely looks set to do well this month. There are a few trashy-pop songs and a few dance-pop songs and if everyone gets behind the same one then we could see one of these winning. It looks like the 'indie bloc vote' may be even more diluted with Dandy* absent and a glutton of new 'pop countries' but no new 'indie countries' joining. Would also explain the poor showing in the semis for a lot of indie/subtle songs that frankly deserved to be in the final.
June 27, 201114 yr I'm thinking Britt Love is over hyped a little bit...I don't think it's going to win.
June 27, 201114 yr I'm thinking Britt Love is over hyped a little bit...I don't think it's going to win. Me either. If it does, it will be a really poor winner imo. There are a handful of brilliant tracks in the final - Britt Love is nowhere near amongst them imo. It's her awkward vocals that really distract from the song. Now, had it been Robyn providing vocals it'd be a ** disco smilie ** moment of pop glory. Britt Love cheapens it somewhat. :(
