June 28, 201115 yr I mean, that every single #1 this year has been "the worst ever". That's impossible, surely? I, more than anybody, know what it's like having a different opinion to everyone else. I'm the only person in the world who finds Bad Romance boring. You can blame rose coloured glasses for that. Using the same example, I'm sure there were people in 1998 claiming 'C'est La Vie' and 'Because We Want To' to be the new 'worst ever #1'! Older is better is just a natural way of life! Not that I'm saying that the people who might have said that now suddenly love the #1's of 1998, but they probably like them in comparison to some of the recent #1's!

It tends to be the same people doing it each time aswell. I'm sure some members here consider like 20 songs released from the past 12 months as "the worst song of all-time". It's just stupid tbh. Whenever people say that now, I can't take it seriously. I know they're going to claim another song is worse in a couple of weeks.

IMO, C'est La Vie is one definitely of the worst things to have ever hit no.1, I just can't stand the song

You truly think sampling the Banana Boat Song is a good, acceptable idea? I stand by what I say - Jason Derulo is the WORST number one of the past few years. Possibly more.... please give me an example of a worse one (Westlife excluded, obviously).
June 28, 201115 yr People seem to say that about half of the #1s in the past couple of years. I guarantee you there'll be a song even worse (IYO) going to #1 in the next few months. that's because almost every number 1 for the last couple of years has been $h!t.

I'd like to express my admiration for your bravery in listening to a Derulo song. I certainly didn't and have no intention of doing so. I won't ever listen to a Bruno Mars song either.

June 28, 201115 yr Author that's because almost every number 1 for the last couple of years has been $h!t. Yes, we get it, most of the #1s this year don't appeal at all to some members here. That's fine. I can understand that. It just seems a little hyperbolic (probably the wrong word) that people seem to brand almost every #1 as 'the worst song of the year' or 'the worst #1 ever' or something similar only to give that title to another song just a few weeks later. June 28, 201115 yr I find the Jason DuRulo song so boring. TBH it is the most boring song I think I've heard all year.

Because apparently Pitbull was the worst #1 ever. And apparently LMFAO was the worst #1 ever. And so on. It's just getting old now. My personal least favourite #1 of this year is Grenade by Bruno Mars.

I dont. As you say above there's bound to be worse number 1s to come. I think your use of hyperbolic is justified.

June 29, 201115 yr The lesson here, if there is one, is probably that we shouldn't say a song is "the worst number one ever" after hearing it once or twice.. The true appallingness will be revealed later if needed.

To be fair, 'Don't Want To Go Home' certainly deserves its criticism. Looking at the list of number one singles I have to go back to Sam & Mark's cover of 'With a Little Help From My Friends' over 7 years ago to find a song I'd actually like to listen to less than the new DeRulo song. I've heard it about four times and I genuinely never ever want to hear any of it ever again.
June 29, 201115 yr Oh dear. Another dance/rap/auto-tune riddled piece of anonymous "club-y" $h!te. Edited June 29, 201115 yr by HUMOURless
June 29, 201115 yr Go and speak to JARK - I think you and he would make great friends. I'm fine thanks, I think JARK has got better things to do than have a conversation with me and considering JARK makes a lot of posts in the lounge whereas I make very few, I think this conversation is unlikely to take place. I'm pretty happy in the uk chart forum so I'm pretty happy to make interesting posts where I express my views as an opinion and learn new things about the chart.

June 29, 201115 yr To be fair, 'Don't Want To Go Home' certainly deserves its criticism. I haven't heard it yet but I absolutely don't want to. All Jason Derulo songs are just terrible, as is he himself. What is the appeal? :puke2: On the "worst #1" debate, you have to remember also that there are a lot of members on this forum and if you took a poll asking every active member what their least favourite #1 of the year is it's highly likely you'd have at least one name for every #1 song so far this year. I mean, my least favourite is Nicole Scherzinger (although, like I said, I haven't heard Jason Derulo) but I know to many people on this forum it's probably the best. Also, a lot of people on this forum are teenagers, who are likely to be unaware of what was #1 and what wasn't before they started following the charts. So when someone says "worst #1 ever", they might just be being overdramatic but they also might mean "worst #1 since ___ (whenever they started following the charts)". And it's much easier to have hatred to songs that are around since you've been following music to songs that were released before, as you have to listen to them on the radio constantly and hear everyone else talking about how great they are, something that doesn't really happen as much with older songs (unless you're talking about The Beatles or something). I guess genre comes into it too - if you hate rap then you'd likely have most of your least favourite #1s in the past 10 years or so as it was rare for rap songs to reach #1 before then. I'm waffling now but the point is it's perfectly possible for someone to think the "worst #1 ever" is something from 2011 without being seen as hyperbolic
