I thought that Come On Girl was brilliant at the time but I sort of pin the whole club banger craze on that song now - if it had been released now I don't think I'd care for it at all, but it felt very fresh in early 2008.

That and I LOVE Luciana

You make a very good point. Taio Cruz was quite ahead of his time in early 2008. 'Come On Girl' was excellent imo and the only single he's released since that I'd say I liked more was 'Dynamite'. I still don't understand why 'Break Your Heart' became such a monster hit both here and in the US. I mean, it's brilliant to see British artists getting to no. 1 in America (because it rarely happens) but when it's with a song I'd regard as "good" at my most generous, I find that disappointing.

Plus Taio's become SO Americanised these days that I seriously doubt that most people in the US have any clue that he's not a native. Likewise Jay Sean.

At least Adele and Coldplay are bringing something a bit more original and representative of British music to the US charts.

How We Roll (feat. Tanya Lacey) - Loick Essien

I can only agree with the others who are gobsmacked as to why this is doing so well. I've seen the video quite a few times on several music channels. Well, I see "seen" but it's more I quickly change the channel. Maybe I should give this a proper listen but it's not made an impact on me yet.

If anything, Loick Essien reminds me of McLean (who? :D ) who was only scoring top 10 hits last year with 'My Name' and...oh, that was it. :P I honestly can't seperate them - it's J-Kwon Vs Chingy - The Next Generation.

It's easy to tell Loick Essien and McLean apart! WTF? I think it's more that you just don't know them very well.

My Name was terrible though. SOOOOOOOO boring. I hope to never hear that song ever again. Snoozefest. It's like those songs like In My Head, Heart Vacancy, Poker Face, When We Collide, Break Your Heart, The Flood, Replay, etc. Just nothing happens in the song. It just goes on and on, the same monotonous boring whatever. I hate that type of music so much. :puke:

And Tinie Tempah aswell. :) And you CAN'T forget Lauren Bennett!!

Come On Girl is Taio Cruz's only song to stand the test of time. Break Your Heart and Dirty Picture were good but got very old very quickly, I never liked Dynamite, Higher has always been dull and as for the rest of his old stuff I Just Wanna Know was never that good, I Can Be and She's Like A Star also both got boring quickly and I don't recall ever hearing Moving On. But Come On Girl is still very good  (Take Me Back and Shine A Light are still good also, but they were features)

Anyway, here's today's top 100 update.

Three new entries today. Eminem's fourth Recovery single Space Bound makes its first appearance in the top 100 at #76. The '2011 Remix' of Peter Andre's Perfect Night enters at #92, replacing the album version in the top 100. Looking past the hideous crediting I deduce the new entry at #97 is Box Bottom feat. Big Babba - Bounce 'N' Boom (better known as 'the song from the Vimto ad'). Rizzle Kicks re-enter at #82 with Down With The Trumpets and Beyoncé re-enters at #100 with 1+1. As well as Peter Andre, The Black Eyed Peas, Mumford & Sons, Alexandra Stan and Chris Brown each have songs dropping out to accommodate the 5 top 100 entries.

Good point. In fact, there probably were people in America who thought Jay Sean (especially) was American because there isn't anything remotely British about him. At all. At least Taio Cruz sounds English when he talks. :D Jay Sean sounds like a parody of Chris Brown circa 2008.

'Rolling In The Deep' and 'Viva La Vida' are two excellent tracks very unique in their sound and their success was well deserved.

Shine a Light is probably THE worst song Taio has ever been associated with. :puke: It's dreadful. Worse than Break Your Heart.

Sorry, I'm sounding so negative here atm. Just this conversation has reminded me of like a million songs I hate.

However, I heard Taio Cruz wrote I'm Into You, so I'll give him credit for that. It's a fantastic song! And not generic either! :o

Well, Rolling in the Deep sounds like Lose Yourself by Eminem, and Viva La Vida sounds like Firework by Katy Perry.

But still it's good for them really. It's nice that the US is tolerant of British music imo. There's been actually quite a few times this year that there have been more British artists in the top 10 in the US than in the UK!!!!!

Can something please destroy 'Party Rock Anthem'? Its still at #14. I so want 'Price Tag' to be the 2nd biggest seller in 2011 but the way 'PRA' is going, I can see it taking over as PT is down to #51 & #87 and there is only 90k between them. I honestly hope it starts falling fast soon, it sounds SO boring now.

Although I am not that keen on the iTunes top 10 at the moment, at least we have some more UK entries compared to earlier in the year. We have:

DJ Fresh

Loick Essien

Example

Calvin Harris

Ed Sheeran

Dont Know If Anybody Noticed, Cher Lloyd - Swagger Jagger Is #42 On Itunes Albums (From Pre-Orders)

I must be one of the few who actually prefers to new Taio - I thought Dynamite and Break Your Heart were brilliant club anthems

I just listened to that Loicke song, its so generic and autotuned to death its unreal, I'll join the people who are going 'WTF' at this song doing so well

Britney - IWG  #132 :o

Edge of Glory :left: #11  #97  #109

:D Great to see Loick Essien at 3, his song deserves it and the girl part is so catchy and the best bit of the song  Of course Loick sounds good too, I never like a song just for one small part. Great to see 'Turbulence' on the rise too, I hope after the floptastic 'Brrrat!' Steve can get a 2nd T40 hit (his first being IITH with will.i.am who for some strange reason didn't use his real name and called himself Zuper Blaqq)

Yeah, that is true. It's strange to think only a few weeks ago it was an all US top 10! :o It's promising. I love American music, but it's also responsible for some of the worst songs in the charts at the moment, so the British artists are a nice last resort.

Another thing I noticed is that we've got a lot of artists high up the chart at the moment who aren't really like "pop stars". Like they're not in the media all the time, and all that sort of stuff. They're not really icons to any major level. I think a few songs high up the chart are there because of the song itself, which makes a nice change.

But also, another thing worth noting is how all those British songs in the top 10 were held back and frontloaded. We can complain about songs being frontloaded, debuting at their peak, and then falling fast, but it has its advantages.

But, to be fair, 'Changed the Way You Kiss Me', 'The A Team' and 'Bounce' are all holding up pretty well at the moment, so they're at least not that frontloaded. Just maybe on their first weeks...

It wasn't an 'all US top 10', it was a top 10 with no British acts. There are other nationalities you know...
