July 20, 201113 yr So both sets of fans are as bad as each other? What a shocker!! Just because he's credited doesn't mean it's been approved. He can send it out for whatever reason, they can do whatever they want, it still needs his approval to actually go ahead. When it first arose last week it was hardly surprising and isn't uncommon. Either the details and permissions hadn't been finalised or the smaller artist gains by having a few more people know of him, more people listen to 'Penguin' and more people know that Leona's song isn't totally original. It should not however be still going on over a week later. It would usually just blow over straight away, it's now got to the point where he's got absolutely nothing to gain from still complaining, unless of course he's the one in the right. I'm not saying he is the one in the right, it's just now reached the stage where it's become more bizarre than anything else. If he isn't then he's a bigger moron than most people would ever have imagined. Collide was produced by Sandy Vee who is a Grammy-winning producer, and written by Autumn Rowe who was involved with Alexis Jordan's Happiness that also featured an instrumental sample. These aren't amateurs who don't know what they're doing. Why do you think it should have blown over straight away? Things like this take time for everyone to contact each other and sort it out. I firmly believe MoS set out to sabotage Collide and garner publicity for Avicii and his track. It's in their interest to keep the story up so he gets more attention.
July 20, 201113 yr Exactly Rain, the only people who will gain from this is Avicii and MoS, they're looking for trouble and publicity. Just because they are still going on with their plan doesnt mean 'Oh okay they are right'. I haven't said it does, all I've said is it doesn't make sense. Yes they're getting publicity but they certainly aren't gaining. If they're the ones in the wrong it's now reached the stage where they'd be making themselves look like complete utter morons. As I said, it makes sense to start with but not still. It will just make them look bitter and twisted, if they are the ones in the wrong then they've absolutely no common sense with regards to what they're doing. "So both sets of fans are as bad as each other? What a shocker!!" Why generalise? Its a small number of fans on both sides. Also you say this so why just bring up what Leona fans were saying then? Ok then "so both sets of fans have ones who behave as bad as each other? What a shocker!!" Either way it makes no difference, no one knows the truth apart from a few people, one side of which isn't telling it. I only mentioned Leona fans because 1) it was in reply to what someone else had said about them and 2) I'd only done an "@avicii" search this morning, and it was full of Leona fans spouting hate. I'm sorry I didn't also do the same for Leona.... -_- Collide was produced by Sandy Vee who is a Grammy-winning producer, and written by Autumn Rowe who was involved with Alexis Jordan's Happiness that also featured an instrumental sample. But Ministry of Sound and Avicii aren't amateurs either, they know what they're doing and they know how the industry works. They work mainly in dance music so will know far more about sampling rules than most other record labels, they should also know that if they're the ones in the wrong they're making themselves look like complete idiots, I fail to see how that is in their interest. I thought 'Collide' had been around for longer than 5 days, so my bad there, but even still, I find it surprising that it seems to be in the same situation as it was to begin with. One side says one thing, one said says the other. Two sides of professionals with great knowledge of the industry they're working in, one of which is right and one of which isn't. All anyone knows is that it doesn't really make much sense for either to be not telling the truth and that 'Collide' samples 'Penguin'. Meanwhile, BuzzJack's least favourite tweeter has been online this evening! example example Heard the new Leona song? Amazing that Simon Cowell's lot thought they could release it without the permission of the original producer example example Another instance where major labels lack any imagination and think they can do whatever the f*** they like. Shameful example example Good luck Leona. It's not your fault He's also signed to MoS and posted a link to the original DS article, if they are trying to sabotage it, it's not going to be something which is going to be resolved soon. If it has been agreed would Syco not just be able to post some proof?
July 20, 201113 yr Tbh, in reality no one will really give a flying fuck, it's just internet fanboys that make it seem like a much bigger deal than it actually is. I doubt it'll do any damage to Leona's success with the song at all.
July 20, 201113 yr Example got it spot on with his final tweet. I get the feeling he actually appreciates Leona and therefore he hasn't lashed out at her quite the same way he usually would. I doubt it's Leona's fault she was told that they had the rights or whatever. It's either management issues that both Avicii and Leona were unaware of or the second option is that MOS agreed to it, knowing full well they were going to publically out them as "liars" or whatever, just to raise Avicii's profile here and to make Leona look bad. (They did seem pretty quick to come out with their first accusation to me ) But I honestly don't care. I'm still loving the song so much. Thank you to whoever is involved, is all I say.

I doubt it'll do any damage to Leona's success with the song at all. I agree with this. Some people are panicking saying it is damaging Leona's reputation but it really is just getting the attention of online blogs. Even the first article in The Sun wasn't that big or scathing. I don't think the general public care either way as long as it's a tune (which it is.) I just hope radio still supports it as that's my only concern at the moment.

July 21, 201113 yr So what's the latest with the plagarism? I'd been on holiday, but got back and heard the Afrojack remix of Collide and then the original. Then I've heard the new Avicii track (who is easily my second favourite producer atm behidn Afrojack) and it does sound exactly like Collide. Reading between the lines, Avicii is apparently credited as a producer, but he has tweeted that he has not even given permision for the sample to be used (which he himself sampled from a film!). Obviously Fade Into Darkness has been released because of Collide, but at the moment the whole situation is just one great big mess. Imo SyCo have jumped too early, perhaps not got all the permission they need to release the sample and have released the track. Cos MoS and Avicii don't really need the publicity. I'd say they're more angry about getting shafted over a major record label.

Perhaps the deal was not completely set yet Syco hasted to release this to meet the promo plan for Leona's new album. But the fact that he sent this to Syco to write lyrics for Leona on it means that he was down with the idea anyway. Is he trying to say he somehow changed his mind before the whole deal was closed and he wanted it back for himself? Because that is really unprofessional when you are collaborating with a branch of SONY! I am convinced he just does it for publiSHITy! And it is so pathetic and stupid imo because Penguin would never become a hit anywhere outside his consoles and he knows it, but now it had a chance of becoming well known to people he would never get a chance with + he will get his share of the money. I am pretty sure they would be played back to back at radio shows or TV shows or even clubs and that would be a super boost for is career. After all they didn't steal it, he is credited for making the mix anyway. Most DJ's would kill to feature in Leona's first single no doubt!
July 21, 201113 yr The Collide audio on Leona's official account on youtube is just dominated with talk about Avicii and the mess, it is quite a big deal guys, it needs to get sorted. On the + side nearly 200,000 views already.

After all they didn't steal it, he is credited for making the mix anyway. Most DJ's would kill to feature in Leona's first single no doubt! I think people are dismissing the profile of Avicii. He's one of the youngest producers around and he's already had hits around Europe (see Tim Berg 'Bromance'). If some of Leona's fans are deluded enough (this is the impression I get from the fanboys at least..) that this guy "needs" Leona to have a sucessful career, well, it's quite frankly laughable. These producers don't make their money out of their own solo careers (well they do eventually if they get very successful ala David Guetta), they make it out of producing a track and then getting an artists team to put together lyrics. Obviously somewhere down the line the financial package was changed. Where the royalties were changed I do not know. It could SyCo or it could be MoS. Perhaps MoS had no idea that the track would be used as the lead single so the package was not good. What is clear is that this has not been handled well by either party. This isn't a dig at Leona or anything, as I quite like her and Collide is a very good track, but knowing SyCo's reputation I'd definitely say the mistake is most likely on their behalf.
July 21, 201113 yr From what I can gather, it seems to me that Avicii is unhappy with this being a 'Leona Lewis' release. When he sent it out to writers to write over, I think he just wanted some anonymous person to put a vocal over it and then it would be 'Avicii - Collide', for example. But as it's Leona and she is the one who is credited as the main artist, I think that's where the issue lies.

Obviously somewhere down the line the financial package was changed. I am not fond of such Dj's (although I give them full credit for the hits they produce) but I do not let this affect my judgement. He is young and promising and he doesn't NEED Leona, but he would greatly benefit from the collaboration. Let's not pretend they stole it from him... he SOLD it, or at least he was about to so. It is about MONEY rather than stealing sb's piece of art as some people want this to look like! As far as Avicii's hits are concerned... come on! He took part in some successful projects but having written the whole music for Leona's comeback single (that will be played all around the world regardless if it is good or not) is a different case. In music industry people tend to forget how impotant relationships are. An artist's behaviour is critical. It definitely looks like Leona is kind while Avicii himself has crossed the line with his 'statements'. I wouldn't care if some old greedy manager complained but a young promissing DJ who was about to sell this song anyway shouldn't stir up all this rude mess with his comments. He could use the legal way to demand all he feels/can prove he should get. It takes more than mixing beats to have a carreer. If you lack fair play and smart choices you either get sb who does (a manager?) or wait to be slaughtered down the hill. I am hugely dissapointed by how HE has handled it. Nobody said it was not his song after all.

Nobody said it was not his song after all. I think you're slightly missing the point. What a lot of Leona Lewis fans need to realise is that her tweets are never going to be "oh dayz, cannot believe that avicci tosser, liar!!!!" because at the end of the day in all of this she is never going to come off bad. She's not the one who signed off the deal, it will be somebody in SyCo who gets fired not her. Sony is a huge record label, Ministry of Sound isn't. The big record labels have been shitting on the smaller independant ones for years and nobody cares about it because they can never match the bigger record labels. In simplier terms it's like an artist such as Natalia Kills saying she has had a more successful career than Madonna. People are going mad at Avicii for defending his own work because "he gave it away". Nobody knows this yet. Both sides have a different story. What's clear so far is that Avicii knows the ins and outs of his work, and Leona doesn't. Has anybody from SyCo other than Leona made a statement., or even commented on this yet? Not as far as I'm aware, only Leona. We don't know who's in the right or who's in the wrong. If Avicii or his manager or MoS did/does not kick up a fuss then the whole situation will be ignored. Seeing as its Avicii himself who has started the whole thing, to me at least it's clear that there has been some wrong doing at SyCo. Whether they mis-interpreted the idea for some singer to lay down vocals on Penguin, or whether he gave Leona's team the green light to use the beat. From my own point of view, Fade Into Dark came out far too quickly for it have been mixed, recorded and mastered within 1/2 days after Collide came out.

This is what's happened, he's releasing it as 'Fade Into Darkness' with vocals by a Swedish singer I forget the name of. Just because he sent it to Syco doesn't mean it was only given to Syco, he sent it around loads of places because he knew it would do well with a vocal on it, which it will. Knowing Syco this is probably their 'permission'. By the way here is the Avicii song 'Fade Into Darkness'. It was first put on YT on Friday the same days as 'Collide' got its first airing and has now been added as 'coming soon' to release schedules. You (well I anyway) get the impression that this is what they were going to launch with when the time was right. S9BrzOcRsjQ I think the song is better but the vocals aren't.
July 21, 201113 yr Regarding the audio video on Leona's VEVO, comments have now been disabled, and there's almost half as many dislikes as there are likes. :(
