Hello Kitty is absolutely awful to the point where it's actually laughable and I'm kind of intrigued to listen again...

that 'hello kitty' video/song package is the kind of thing that destroys careers. it's so obnoxiously offensive to asian people. throwing out a load of asian buzzwords/stereotypes into one package with a truly unlistenable song.

it'd be like katy perry releasing a song about fish and chips for her british fans.

ugh, so bad.

I just took a listen to Hello Kitty, I'd passed over it when I originally got the album, and I really don't know what to make of it. On the one hand, shouting 'kawaii' in a manner reminiscent of J idol pop does make me quite interested, but it also sounds very much a mess. Definitely a unique choice.

I saw the video, gosh! The whole thing is an absolute mess.

I know the album is beyond being salvaged at this point, but it's actually a great album with stuff on there that deserves to be heard. The only thing this is going to do is more damage to her already badly soiled reputation.

To be fair, this song was always going to cause problems. It's one of those "fan favourite album tracks", it's too un-Avril to be an Avril single... and the fact she looks bored in the video speaks volumes.
I cant understand why people think its racist? makes no sense to me the video was directed by a Japanese director and her label is Japanese.

I actually really like the song. I think it's catchy.

The video's okay. Nothing really special about it, then again, it's only meant for the Asian market as it's only being released there, so I'm assuming her Japanese label or whatever didn't spend that much money on it. Is it racist? Absolutely not. I have no idea where this is coming from.

Also, is it confirmed that "Give You What You Like" is the next single for everywhere else?!

I cant believe hw much controsery this is getting! STUPID!

How embarrassing.

To think I idolised her at the age of 5!

Maybe they just hate Asians.

There is definitely no doubt that the whole package is very, very bad. The video didn't seem overly offensive to me but I had to stop watching in the middle of the first breakdown because the song was just horrendous. And the "kawaii" shouting is just so cringe, it hurts.

It is both embarrassing and scary IMO. Is it just me or is it happening more and more often to white popstars?

I remember Katy's asian themed performance of "Unconditionnally" getting a lot of backlash as well and being branded "racist" (by some). Duh!

It is crazy. :(

Erm I don't get where racism/stereotypes are in this video AT ALL. Using words like 'kawaii' or having Asian dancers doesn't really make you racist... and these things, apart from the Hello Kitty reference, were the only Japanese things in the video. She just has fun and does it in famous OTT Japanese video style - which isn't only allowed to people of a certain race, is it?

I love the song (but the video kinda lacks a certain somethin-somethin) and am not even ashamed of this. Bye.

It's only getting media attention because it's bad... people don't get it a silly Asia-only release, so people are getting Rebecca Black teas from the video.
