Noting that Adele - Someone Like You is being classed as a Non-Single release which has reached reached #1 and gained over 1 million sales, is there a list of them or a chart of the best selling non-singles that arent officially released as a single?

There isn't a list as far as I'm aware but the best selling album track ever is 'Game Over' I believe, spent a few weeks in the chart and even had a video but was never released as a single. 'Someone Like You' was made a single in the end, so it doesn't count

various sources are classing Set Fire To The Rain as the second single from the album '21'. Is 'Someone Like You' officially confirmed then?

of course Lady GaGa's - Hair could be included in this non-single sales as its not an official release *yet*
'Set Fire to the Rain' was 2nd single in other countries. We just got 'Someone Like You'. (Which is probably the reason why a video was never made for it)

okay, so any notable album tracks which have significant sales which potentially could compile a chart of best selling non-single's?
Well there's Marry You by Bruno Mars, nearly kept going T40 but just stalling.

Bruno Mars 'Marry You' (Rumoured to be the next single though)

Adele 'Turning Tables'

Lady GaGa 'Hair'

Alexa Goddard 'Turn My Swag On' (It was only one of those songs youtube artists releasing for fans. But took off after Cher performed TMSO on X Factor - I doubt Alexa ever thought she'd do as well as she did with it...)

Pixie Lott's Use Somebody was the b-side to Mama Do, but spent a while in the charts - was Top 40 on one midweek chart but ended up at #41 :(
I don't think you can call anything which is promoted either on radio or with a video an album track. People say 'Game Over' was an album track, then why was the video never off the urban channels for about 6 weeks? To me that makes it a single. You can't claim it's a big selling album track when it has a massive advantage over every other one.

Unfortunately there's no obvious way to tell, retrospectively, which songs were officially released as singles - if only there were, than the sales aspect would be the easy part.

If a song is playlisted at radio, it's a single. Barely anything is released physically these days and it makes no difference whether you can download a track as an album cut or off a "single". Someone Like You is a single - even it was intended to be, it became one.

Marry You and Turning Tables are good examples

Hair was released as a stand alone digital single ahead of the album. It's a single.

Why wouldn't Turn My Swag On count? That isn't even on an album as far as I'm aware.

Hair was a promotional single, which is different to a "proper" single to me, because it was only released to promote the album, not really for sales or chart positions. But you could still class it as a single, just not an official one :)

Usually if album tracks take off big time (Like "Someone Like You" did) then they are eventually confirmed as singles.

Simply Unstoppable by Tinie Tempah. I don't think that was an official single, but it spent 2 weeks in the top 40 (thanks to a remix of it which was released).

Also, Look At Me Now by Chris Brown. It's been in the top 200 on iTunes ever since it was put up for download.

I think Game Over by Tinchy Stryder is the best-selling non-single as it stands though (would've been Someone Like You, but that got released in the end). It was definitely NOT a single. Remember it entered the chart a mere two weeks after Second Chance (which was actually a single). Infact, it actually outsold Second Chance! :o Game Over is still selling well now, infact. I saw it in the top 1000 on iTunes yesterday.

Also, Who You Are by Jessie J must've sold a lot by now. It got a week in the top 40, has been in the top 200 for ages too. Although it'll get officially released in a few months, but still, impressive sales for the meantime.

anyone have any sales information for current tracks that arent released as singles this year? maybe we could start making a chart of some sort. Like a YTD rather than weekly or monthly..

Lady GaGa - Hair

Bruno Mars - Marry you

Tinchy Stryder - Game Over

Tinie Tempah - Simply Unstoppable

Jessie J - Who You Are

Pixie Lott - Use Somebody

Adele - Turning Tables

etc....

Was Stop Crying Your Heart Out by Leona Lewis a single? If not, I think that's sold quite a lot.

Also, Man Down by Rihanna, if that doesn't get released.
