Snow Patrol have unveiled their brand new single 'Called Out in the Dark'.

The track will be the first single taken from their upcoming sixth studio album, which will be the follow-up to 2008's A Hundred Million Suns.

The single got its first play by BBC Radio 1's Zane Lowe tonight. It will be released as both a single track and as part of an EP on September 4.

The group recorded the song in Topanga Canyon, Los Angeles with long-time collaborator Jacknife Lee.

Snow Patrol's currently-untitled sixth album will also be released later this year.

Lead singer Gary Lightbody recently revealed that R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe helped him overcome writer's block while working on the new album.

Not released for another six or seven weeks, they're clearly bothered about chart positions. Not saying that's a bad thing at all, I hope it does well.

'Called Out Into the Dark'...

Not sure what to make of it on first listen. Could be a grower. I definitely get the HURTS comparison though. It's quite different for Snow Patrol and it's not terrible. It's decent.

'Out ion the dark'? Please someone edit this
Great, reminds me of Keane around the Perfect Symmetry era (which was their best AKA only good period). I got their GH a couple of Christmasses ago and I hardly ever stop playing it, I'm glad they're justifying my love
I'm really liking this - I've always quite liked their material, and their back catalogue is very strong indeed. I look forward to hearing this album and seeing what new directions they go in - I can definitely hear the HURTS comparisons during the chorus of this. The album's not out until February 2012 though, and it's called 'Fallen Empires'.
not bad, its certainly different from their previous material, but I suppose thats a good thing as they can't keep rehashing the same thing over and over, I agree that it sounds a lot like Hurts though :o

I don't really get the video, but I'm loving the song right now! I really hope it's a success, seeing as the majority of the singles from the last album fared poorly. :(

I surprise myself singing along to the song when I randomly listen to it, but I fail to remember what it sounds like as soon as the next song is on ...

I think they've come to a point where they need to re-invent their sound, it all a bit samey, still good, but nothing really breath taking.

The album's out November 14, despite them saying it has apparently being held back until next year. I'm not complaining though - hopefully there's a second single to lead the album, which could possibly make the top 10!

At first I thought this song is quite bland but after few listens I think it's pretty good.

Those were my thoughts as well, but the more I heard it the more it grew on me and I loved the video, sadly it isn't a boom pow whoosh song and so sadly it didn't do all that well. :(

2nd single, 'This Isn't Everything You Are':

I'm surprised how under-the-radar it was, premiering two weeks ago, but it's alright on first listen. Not as good as 'Called Out in the Dark', but a decent lead single, and I think the chorus could become quite anthemic...

Released the same day as 'Fallen Empires'.

(Oh, and could a mod please edit the thread title?)
