July 24, 201113 yr 5/1 Batidas: Andain – Promises Loving my opening odds from Bwci-Caer  2/1 Fljótavík: Human Life - Wherever We Are Wow, I think even Dandy* will be more than just delighted with these odds. :D I am loving Andain :D I've placed Human Life on top after the success of Chart Music last time. Both songs are very similar, so Human Life should ease into the top 5 and could appeal widely enough to win. Isconia only 50/1? :o Pretty good opening odds for FSR Rontvia :D Isconia is probably the most difficult song to predict this time round. It could come top 10, it could crash out in the semis. Ria is pretty good and is the best song that features broken strings, so it should do fairly well. Top 10 is very likely.
July 24, 201113 yr Isconia is probably the most difficult song to predict this time round. It could come top 10, it could crash out in the semis. Really? I listened to it three times yesterday - a couple of songs in SF1 didn't even get half way through first listen before I hit the stop button. The only thing that bugs me about 'Video Games' is the talking over verse 2. Is the song supposed to be like that? The video does so is the mp3 ripped from the video?

I definitely can see why it might do well, but maybe I'm also underestimating it a lot.

July 24, 201113 yr Author Ria is pretty good and is the best song that features broken strings, so it should do fairly well. Top 10 is very likely. Well you know my opinion on strings  I'm even liking the Greyson Chance song a lot because of them (the strings accompanying the middle 8 especially) - I need to hunt down an instrumental version of that song!
July 24, 201113 yr Maybe I'm missing something with it then :drama: . I definitely can see why it might do well, but maybe I'm also underestimating it a lot. Sometimes less is more. Just like 'Riverside' was just Agnes's beautiful heartfelt vocals and a paino. That's all the song needs to be powerful. 'Video Games' is very similar in that respect. Mikey will surely be kicking himself that he didn't confirm the track first if it was on his list on contenders.

Strings can enhance the song but you can't polish a shit imo. :( Not that 'Unfriend You' is terrible but it smacks of 'Firework' by Katy Perry. There are worse offenders of young boy singers whose singles really irritate me. Namely Hanson 'MmmBop', Aaron Carter 'Crazy Little Party Girl', Justin Bieber 'Baby'. Just...no!!! (for the record I thought 'One Time' was ok purely for the backing track :D ).

Is the song supposed to be like that? The video does so is the mp3 ripped from the video? If it is, I didn't do it. This was one of the few MP3's where the poster sent me a link, Grebo provided it himself. I'm inclined to suggest that from next month onwards we all submit an MP3 of our entry when confirming to the host as well if possible - at least that way it saves the host a lot of time searching for them all, plus you can choose the quality of your MP3 yourself. In every case where a link wasn't provided I searched for the highest possible quality MP3 that I could find but in 5 or 6 cases I just couldn't find anything at all so had to do an HQ video rip. In some cases (e.g. Portrait Of A Princess), I'm not even sure if an MP3 exists! In that case I had to do an HQ conversion of the video and then edit the track on Audacity to cut off silence before converting it to MP3 - all takes up a lot of time!

I feel sorry for you. :( I just couldn't listen to that song all the way through and was one of the songs I deleted straight away. All that effort creating an mp3 only for me to delete it without one full listen. I suppose I can admit to that as I'm not voting in SF2 - I still wanted to check out those songs though.

I don't have a massive problem with Justin Bieber to be honest, I liked One Time, Love Me and Pray a lot for a start  If I'm honest, I'm not massively keen on the concept of a song revolving around deleting somebody from Facebook to signify the end of a relationship, and I also don't feel the need to ever watch the video - but actually ignoring these things and listening to the song, I do enjoy it! And yes it's mainly because of those strings!
July 24, 201113 yr I did provide my mp3 this time, as I didn't want some 128kbps version to appear in the archive :kink:

I've no doubt that my sister in the next room was wondering what on earth I was listening to when I was editing the song down  Fair's fair, the MP3 packs are supposed to be fully inclusive, I'm sure somebody will enjoy the song - well Pavel does for a start!
July 24, 201113 yr Author I did provide my mp3 this time, as I didn't want some 128kbps version to appear in the archive :kink: Indeed! :P Like I say, I tried to use HQ versions when possible but with some songs, after a few minutes of Googling to no avail, it seemed that the only way I was going to get hold of them was to download them from iTunes. And whilst I did this with my own entry for the version in the pack (:kink:), I wasn't about to pay to download a load of songs that I might not like! If people are that bothered about the quality of their MP3's, they should send their own link! That said, I've only sent the MP3 packs to about 12 people so far, which means that 3/4 of people are still voting based on the youtube links - so it's probably not much of an issue at all!
July 24, 201113 yr All people (but one, I was kind enough to find the mp3 for them though) in Unknown Pleasures 6 provide their own mp3's! What you need to do is just say that if they don't provide their mp3 then the song won't be included in the archive which will most likely put their song in disadvantage! :D

What you need to do is just say that if they don't provide their mp3 then the song won't be included in the archive which will most likely put their song in disadvantage! :D It's always been as standard in UP to provide MP3's, even on CHC. BJSC has always been more about Youtube links but for the last 5 or 6 contests at least it seems that the host providing the MP3 packs has been tradition. Obviously nobody's forced to provide their own MP3, nor ever should be, but we could definitely think about introducing an extra optional (but encouraged) bit to the confirmation next month; Country: Artist: Song: Youtube (or equivalent) link: MP3 (optional): It would definitely help the host, plus people would be able to make sure that they were offering the highest quality version of their entry that they could find, so it seems like a win/win situation to me.
July 24, 201113 yr I like the idea of having the option of sending an mp3, it makes sense to include it.
July 24, 201113 yr I always send an mp3 link with my confirmation, it just makes it that bit easier for the host.
