Posted July 25, 201114 yr Just looked at the release schedule for the next few weeks and there's hardly anything I can see which is gonna make a significant impact on the charts. The only singles I can see which have a chance of making the Top 20 are: This week - JLS (Number 1 no doubt). Following week - Cher Lloyd Following week - Nero Following week - Emeli Sandé (maybe?) The charts are gonna be so stale it's ridiculous! I hate the fact that singles now hang around in the Top 40 for months, leaving very little chance for few new entries. Do you think this situation is gonna change any time soon? I reckon it's only gonna get worse :(
July 25, 201114 yr Cher will probably be Number 1 until Example is released (or Olly). Although she could go the way of Diana Vickers - high first week sales and then bomb down the chart. Will be interesting to see how it goes actually... but I agree there isn't alot of challenges until the end of Aug with Example then its all go the week after that with Leona, Sats, Sugas and Pixie all releasing EDIT - I guess you could argue that Maroon 5/ Christina and Wretch 32 will probably be a challenge for the top on the w/b 15th Aug - depends how well Cher can hold up really Edited July 25, 201114 yr by ElectroBoy

And as for Maroon 5/Christina, even though I haven't heard it, it can't seriously be a contender for Number 1, not with the current state of their careers. It would have to be a truly amazing song.
July 25, 201114 yr I don't mind songs spending ages in the chart, I much preffer it rather than seeing songs drop down the chart. But there are some songs that I hate to see spend ages in the Top 40 (like Chris Brown - Beautiful People :puke:)

Ah but as you say in the OP - there's hardly any competition for number 1 that week - I think it will do well tbh (although I guess I'm biased as an Example fan)
July 25, 201114 yr Sadly Emeli won't get number 1 :( It'll be: JLS Cher Lloyd Cher Lloyd again, or maybe Nero or something like The Wanted or DJ Fresh could go back just by sort of default - whichever way this will be a low sales week. Whatever's number 1 the previous week - sales will be even lower Olly Murs Example/Ed Sheeran - interesting battle, either could plausibly win :o Whatever is number 1 the week before, I can't see any of the new releases number 1. Leona or The Saturdays will be top 3 though, and the other one top 5.
July 25, 201114 yr The first post is about potential top 20 hits, not potential #1s :P I actually think Wretch 32 could quite easily be #1 two weeks after Cher. Edited July 25, 201114 yr by Bré

Aah, that teaches me to skim read it. Emeli will deffo be top 20 actually. EDIT: Cover Drive - Lick Ya Down is getting a lot of airplay on Capital, I think it could go top 20 when it's released (28th August). Edited July 25, 201114 yr by Liаm
July 25, 201114 yr #1 JLS (This Week) #1 Cher Lloyd (Next Week) #3 Nero (Following Week) Top #10 Emeli Sandé (Following Week) That's what i think, Cher might have more than 1 week at #1, We will have too see. :)

Do you think this situation is gonna change any time soon? I reckon it's only gonna get worse :( I think you have cause & effect backwards here - it is *because* there are so few new entries, that songs are hanging round for months...
July 25, 201114 yr Author Example/Ed Sheeran - interesting battle, either could plausibly win :o I just heard the Ed Sheeran song for the first time - it's already sounding like a Number 1!
July 25, 201114 yr The charts are always slow during the summer time. Its a scarce period for new album releases as everybody waits until the 4th quarter to benefit from Christmas. It will be back to 2010 levels once the end of August arrives.
