I have a few queries regarding tracks on the NOW series albums.

What is the lowest charting song to feature on a NOW album? I am quite sure it is "Turn It Up" by the Feeling which made #67 but I am sure this has been outdone.

Which edition has spawned the most #1s and songs NOT making the top 10 and 20?

On Now 79, "I Want You (Hold On To Love)" by Cee-Lo Green peaked at #90... that's the lowest I can think of right now.

Some that missed the top 60..

Andy Abraham - Hang Up - #63

Se:Sa - Like This Like That - #63

Flo Rida - Who Dat Girl - #64

Lena Fiagbe - You Came From Earth - #69

Justin Timberlake - I'm Loving It - #79

Coldplay - God Put A Smile On Your Face - #100

Eva Cassidy - Imagine - #118

Coldplay - Don't Panic - #130

I hadn't even realised that I'm Lovin' It had been released! Was that import sales?

I reckon Now 74 had the most number 1s - 11

I imagine that Now 52 was the lowest with just the three - Liberty X, Ronan Keating and Sugababes? Most of the #1's were on the equivalent Hits albums that year thanks to Sony BMG having the rights to all of the Pop Idol acts.

Now 16, released in 1989, didn't have any No.1s on it.

Wow :o I wonder why not!

Anyway, Now 77 has 12 #1's on it, which must be the most - Only Girl (In The World), Promise This, Club Can't Handle Me, Forget You, Dynamite, Written In The Stars, All Time Low, Please Don't Let Me Go, Green Light, Beautiful Monster, Just The Way You Are and Airplanes.

Thank you for this information :)

Congrats to Coldplay for getting the lowest ever position on a now album. Let's pray Rebbeca Black doesn't feature........

Albeit with singles that weren't officially released I don't think - both of those charted on US import sales iirc, likewise Justin - not sure about Eva. I'm sure there have been a few unreleased tracks on the albums over the years, I couldn't say for sure which ones though.

Yeah, both Coldplay songs were unreleased and only charted on imports. So the lowest peaking *released* song to be on a Now! album is either Imagine or I Want You (Hold On To Love). Or something else no one has come up with yet.
I suppose they're justifying Cee Lo's inclusion by the fact that the last three singles and the album have all done well, still seems like a slightly strange addition though. Blue's I Can would have been better, all of their other singles (bar one or two) were on Now compilations and at least it was a top 20 hit :P

The tracklisting for Now! 79 would have been finalised before I Want You charted surely? And they were just predicting it to be a hit I guess. Same with 'Who Dat Girl' on Now! 78.

Sonnet by The Verve was on Now 40 and only got to #74 (however this was an import version)- I think that's the lowest official charting single to make a Now compilation.

Now albums are compiled a little differently now than they were in the late 80s. It was commonplace for an artist to have their big hit on a Now album but for their next hit to not feature at all.

Some examples - Pet Shop Boys - Always on My Mind and Kylie Minogue - I Should be So Lucky were both on Now 11 but their follow up hits - which were not insubstantial (Heart #1 and Got to Be Certain #2) did not feature on any new album. In fact Kylie didn't feature on one for ages afterwards. It is rare nowadays for the huge pop stars of the moment to be left off a Now album if they have been a regular.

I think it was fairly obvious that I Want You wouldn't have been a hit of any sort of magnitude :o It's only generally finalised about two weeks or a little bit more before release usually, at which point it had already been receiving airplay and was no higher than low top 200 on iTunes.

But people on a chart forum probably have a better idea of what will flop or not than the compilers of Now That's What I Call Music! :P

airplay usually plays a part, Cee-Lo is quite a radio-friendly artist and his other songs were huge radio hits, I Can wasn't really played a lot on the radio iirc? also could explain SFG's appearance

Wow :o I wonder why not!

Now! 17 only had two #1 singles tracklisted; Beats International 'Dub Be Good To Me' and Adamski 'Killer'.

Bizarrely 'Nothing Compares 2 U' which was no. 1 before those two mentioned above was tracklisted on Now! 18 instead.

I'm guessing the reasons for this would be down to the different record lables owning the rights. Hence why Hits compilations had all the hits that the Now! albums didn't.

Speaking of which, are there any other songs beside 'Don't Stop Believin'' and 'Make You Feel My Love' which got tracklisted years after their release?
