Great choices. Portishead, Air, Groove Armada, Bent, Lamb, Lou Rhodes... There's much much better ways of chilling out than listening to Bruno bloody Mars. Mars isn't 'chill out' anyway. It's safe, boring, cheesy MOR. 'Amazing' is one of the most ironic songtitles of recent years.....

I agree. His voice is awful. Good music rarely troubles the singles charts any more.

 

If you heard 'Talking to the Moon', I'm sure you wouldn't be calling his voice awful. He has got one of the most soulful voices of his generation imo.

I hate this song. Nowadays there's hardly anything good that can sell well, sadly.

He is one of the few acts who is actually 'pop' and one of the few that I can imagine could've been released in any decade and been sucessful. Most of the hip hop stuff would've failed to sell in any other decade and eventually will fail to sell again when the fashions change, while Bruno Mars will always sell. And yes you can definately dance to Bruno Mars, in fact that's probably the only chart act I am moved to dance to, though I'm thinking more 'Lazy Song' than 'Just the way you are'.

I think to be honest this is discussion is probably splitting the hip hop teens (anti Bruno Mars) from the older more pop-orientated 20 and 30 somethings plus (pro Bruno Mars).

I think you make some good points actually. I think part of it divides old people who liked music from past generations (which Bruno could easily have been in, as let's face it, in 50 years time, someone will listen to JTWYA, and they won't have a clue when it was released), and the people who like current, and future music (e.g. Pass Out could've only been popular in the 2009-2011 period, really).

 

I also think a few people that like guitar music might like Bruno. He doesn't play guitar, but he seems to fit that singer-songwriter mould a little bit. Not greatly, but compared to everything else in the chart.

He does play guitar. Anyway i love this song and i love his voice.
