August 3, 201113 yr But music to chill out to doesn't have to mean boring or middle of the road. Of course, those who choose that sort of music to chill out to, presumably don't consider it that way. :) What music do you like to chill out to?

August 3, 201113 yr Massive Attack, Burial, XX, Great choices. Portishead, Air, Groove Armada, Bent, Lamb, Lou Rhodes... There's much much better ways of chilling out than listening to Bruno bloody Mars. Mars isn't 'chill out' anyway. It's safe, boring, cheesy MOR. 'Amazing' is one of the most ironic songtitles of recent years.....
August 3, 201113 yr 'Amazing' is one of the most ironic songtitles of recent years..... Or it would be if that's what the song was actually called. Which it isn't.
August 3, 201113 yr I agree. His voice is awful. Good music rarely troubles the singles charts any more. If you heard 'Talking to the Moon', I'm sure you wouldn't be calling his voice awful. He has got one of the most soulful voices of his generation imo.
August 3, 201113 yr I hate this song. Nowadays there's hardly anything good that can sell well, sadly.
August 3, 201113 yr Massive Attack, Burial, XX, I tend to go for someone like Goldfrapp, Katie Melua, Dido, Taylor Swift, etc.
August 3, 201113 yr Haters are always gonna hate. Just ask Cher Lloyd. Bruno Mars has a stupid amount of haters on this site.
August 3, 201113 yr His music is better than 90% of the stuff currently in the charts. Maybe even higher. I'm speechless. To be it's seems like it's worse than 90% of the charts! But good on him for selling a million. Hopefully he can make more interesting songs from now on.
August 3, 201113 yr Or it would be if that's what the song was actually called. Which it isn't. you're obviously far more clued up on Bruno than I am, thankfully. And for the person saying he's one of 'the most soulful voices of his generation' - I assume you mean soulless? What a shockingly wide-of-the-mark statement to make...... Bruno Mars is many many things. Soulful he's very definitely not.
August 3, 201113 yr If you heard 'Talking to the Moon', I'm sure you wouldn't be calling his voice awful. He has got one of the most soulful voices of his generation imo. I just listened to that on youtube. I really dislike his voice. I'm sorry.

August 3, 201113 yr looners gonna loon I'm not a loon. I enjoy his music, but it doesn't make me a loon. I was actually trying to parody the Cher loons around here who assume anyone who doesn't like SW is a hater. But I guess that was lost on you.
August 4, 201113 yr Surely there's no such thing as a fan of Cher Lloyd who ISN'T a lunatic. Or clinically retarded.

Bruno Mars is many many things. Soulful he's very definitely not. Narrow-mindedness can't be treated it seems. I just listened to that on youtube. I really dislike his voice. I'm sorry. Fair enough. He's not going to be everyone's cup of tea. Edited August 4, 201113 yr by SceneofSIXCrimes
August 6, 201113 yr I agree with whoever said that Bruno Mars is better than 90% of the charts nowadays. He is one of the few acts who is actually 'pop' and one of the few that I can imagine could've been released in any decade and been sucessful. Most of the hip hop stuff would've failed to sell in any other decade and eventually will fail to sell again when the fashions change, while Bruno Mars will always sell. And yes you can definately dance to Bruno Mars, in fact that's probably the only chart act I am moved to dance to, though I'm thinking more 'Lazy Song' than 'Just the way you are'. I think to be honest this is discussion is probably splitting the hip hop teens (anti Bruno Mars) from the older more pop-orientated 20 and 30 somethings plus (pro Bruno Mars).

I think you make some good points actually. I think part of it divides old people who liked music from past generations (which Bruno could easily have been in, as let's face it, in 50 years time, someone will listen to JTWYA, and they won't have a clue when it was released), and the people who like current, and future music (e.g. Pass Out could've only been popular in the 2009-2011 period, really). I also think a few people that like guitar music might like Bruno. He doesn't play guitar, but he seems to fit that singer-songwriter mould a little bit. Not greatly, but compared to everything else in the chart. Edited August 7, 201113 yr by Eric_Blob
