Silence to not fall on our streak

Following an unprecendented run of 3 huge hits, the pressure is on for the next Séyetan entry to do well. And even more so than usual this month, because this month is August. For which I am cursed (and eager to break it).

My first ever BJSC entry was to an August contest, 37. Being a newbie I sent a half-assed Finn pop-rock track that failed to make much of a mark and went out. However, if I do say so myself, I got the hang of what makes a successful entry rather quickly and went the next 9 contests without going out in the semis once. Which meant I qualified in all the other contests and have at least one qualification per active BJSC month - or unit digit (and in three of them, '4', '6' and '8', have not yet failed) except for '7'. Then we came to BJSC 47. In that contest I originally sent the track that would become my biggest hit and only appearance on the medal table a month later: 'Love Stuck' by Dream Beats, but changed halfway through to a self-recycle from my act two months previously, Ruby Frost. Her second track failed to make an impression and I learned a lesson all too well; don't self-recycle unless you're sure it's better and know when you have a hit on your hands.

My third August entry was during my year of terror and yet again produced my least favourite entry of the year, Echosmith. It deservedly DNQed.

So we're finally on my fourth year in this contest and that's the story of my August curse. I hope KNDR does not turn out to be another victim of the curse and I think it's good enough to do very well but this is an obstacle for me and since we're in the biggest contest ever I can't be overconfident. I got over three of my previous curses last month with charisma.com - Asian, rap and foreign language, so I'm hopeful I can continue with that.

As for the track ITSELF, let's not get that lost, it's a glorious bit of Australian synth-pop that I think should go down well. It's also KNDR's first ever production and you couldn't tell without knowing, it sounds incredibly advanced and the vocals are really compelling.

4 Augusts entered, 4 Augusts failed in. Lovely start to the Séyetan year once again. Ha.

One more contest either in the top 10 or out of the final and we'll have gone a whole year doing this 'top 10 or bust' thing. That's quite cool.

brb wishing death upon N DNTN

I wish I could have supported this but it wasn't quite standout enough in a semi half full of very strong songs - sry :( You're still one of the most consistently great countries this year though (if not the most)!

Team Me look to bring Séyetana back to their highs

The ever wonderful Team Me have provided us with a fantastic September entry to wow, amaze and excite aural senses. It was love from first listen for me (even though I had high expectations following Show Me, which any of you who were not in Unknown Pleasures X

) and so I hope it will be the same for a lot of you.

Enough to get me back to the final in any case. *hint hint* And then perhaps the top 10 again *more desperate hinting*

The return of Amaranthe - to sort BJSC out

As you will have no doubt have seen, Séyetana have broken their 'no self-recycle' rule to bring back one of the best artists we have ever entered into the contest with their jaw-dropping new single. There were two reasons why it was approved, firstly it is an Amaranthe upbeat song (see also Hunger/The Nexus/Afterlife/basically any of their other songs that isn't Amaranthine or Burn With Me) which means it does not feel like a repeat of Amaranthine nor will likely be riding off its success.

The second reason is that in the month since it has premiered it has achieved almost 40 plays from me - to put that into perspective, this is like Yu listening to a song 800 times in the first month. So I just want to send a song I really love and see what you all think of it (and as a good number of you were not around when Amaranthine slew nearly all of the competition, you guys can also get introduced to the best pop-metal band in the biz, oh and do check out Amaranthine, it will not disappoint ~). Also contains kick-ass boxing video.

Amaranthe will be seeking to avoid Séyetana 'achieving' a historic low of 3 DNQs in a row, can they do it? Aptly, the last time we entered Amaranthe was also after 2 DNQs in a row, and they saved us then. Semi 2 voters have the answer to our fates. Make sure to vote cynically. B-)

Bassically - we're done with you all

Well, not really - we're instead putting a very strong foot forward to make (yes, MAKE, enough pussyfooting about) this bipolar year finish well. We've served our time for unrealistically doing too well in the middle of the year enough, let's get people interested in me again. I would say this sounds rather like Fall Over from Banks but with even more fantastic warbling. Hope you guys enjoy it. ^_^

New year, time to smash. But keep the porcelain intact, wouldn't want it to be broken so easily.

Rachel Taylor used to be part of He Is We, which some of you may remember from the glorious indie-pop of All About Us. Her new EP is quite a world away from that lot though, with great pop tracks all over it. Porcelain is the best. We hope you will feel the same because this is a proper banger.

4 appearances and one of them even P1 (or P2 ). :o  :D

Well that's what happens when you keep sending good entries, keep it up. :D And Tuomas of course could beat almost anyone (just Shatter Me was my #1 for the year and unlike the rest of the things on this list I was already spam-playing it before BJSC so it's somewhat outside the contest for me).

Porcelain needs to win this. Will be backing it even more in the likely event that I DNQ :heehee:

Don't lose hope Joseph!

Lots of appreciation for the support so far though, you've been amazing.

Yes, don't lose hope Izseph. Big fan of 'Porcelain' right hurrrrrrr.

Also, two Desbuandese entries in your top 10! :o :D

Edited by Noahspike

I haven't listened to all the entries in Semi 2 yet, but fingers crossed for 'Porcelain' to qualify, it's all kinds of awesome!

This support, it's making me so happy! ^_^

Anyway, very glad I qualified tonight, let's take that and run with it into the final, and see what we can get out of it. Porcelain, and the rest of this EP actually, are just very very flawless.

  • Author

So yes, we're doing all three of announcing our entry, its qualification, and its final performance as opposed to just doing the first one and then forgetting about this thread until the next month. Because Porcelain is just that special of an entry for me. And it did really really well for me.

Hard as it may be to believe with having several top 10s and a position on the medal table, until this month (not counting LXIV for obvious reasons), Séyetana had never gone over 140 points before - which means that Porcelain has given us a new points record with 141, 4 more than Amaranthine (which wasn't even our bronze medallist lmao) and I collected points from nearly all of my normal admirers as well as getting several new ones on board. BJSC is so brilliant like this. Position-wise, in 8th, it equals our last top 10, Iinadukeblue, and brings my total number of top 10s up to TEN. This is all excellent.

We were a fan of the winner too, a fab second victory for allies Altyr Muunilinst, as well as most of the tracks ahead of us (but there wasn't really anything in this final we didn't like), so all the news is good in Séyetana for now. Until we try something really left-field for our next entry and then rage when it DNQs in 23rd with 34 points)

Owl Vision - Lightshy

Heading for a rare foray (for us) into electro, and sending an artist and song with a TON of puns to be made about me, Owl City, Lights, and all those fun things I like, we've actually ended up sending our first ever instrumental to the contest. Which is probably the last 'first' we have out of the major musical types, I think. Can it emulate past instrumental successes like Platinum Chains and Cry For Freedom?

It's epic. Seriously, I feel so energized listening to it. Enjoy. ^_^

Flutterwonder

Flutterwonder is a song of relentless optimism, a song about suddenly discovering a whole new place full of wonders that you never knew existed before. It is possibly the sweetest thing I've sent, and should hopefully hit many of you in the same way. PinkiePieSwear is also known as Matt R, and this is his magnum opus and possibly the best thing to have ever come out of the brony music scene.

For one time only, we're unveiling a variant flag to go along with this entry.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm90/Eyes330/seyetana%20flag-2_zpsm4lgm4si.png

I feel like this is the coolest, hippest and swaggiest Séyequestria Séyetana have ever been.

Officially becoming a brony for the month.

I mean, I know that's an easy gif to use but it's so appropriate.

All kinds of Fluttershy 'yay' are welcomed for Flutterwonder love.
