At the moment I just have one name in my head who is going to be huge, or atleast start making the charts, and that person is Bastille.

Im obsessed with him and his voice and music just appeals to everybody.

Who do you think could make a splash in late 2011 and 2012?

I actually have no idea. No one springs to mind at all. Sound of 2012 is going to end up being filled with obscure indie acts again at this rate :(

Actually, I do have one idea - Skrillex. Maybe.

Maybe Emeli Sande? I can also see Ed Sheeran just getting bigger and bigger. I'd like to say Oh My! as well but I can't see it, they'll do a Mini Viva at best :(

Plus I can see K-Pop breaking internationally before 2012, so perhaps 2NE1 (that's probably my looning/wishful thinking though :P)

I'd love 2NE1 to make it big. I think with the Black Eyed Peas and Pussycat Dolls splitting up, they could fill that void I reckon. And I think I said this somewhere else aswell, but Far East Movement becoming big last year is promising for them. I'm hoping somehow that Interscope sign them (which I think is actually possible, since Pussycat Dolls, Black Eyed Peas AND Far East Movement are/were all on Interscope, and they're working with will.i.am).

Emeli Sande, I could see making it big too. Like with Ed Sheeran, I think she's already made quite a name for herself by collabing with so many mainstream British urban artists (e.g Tinie Tempah, Devlin, Professor Green, Chipmunk, Wiley and others). And a couple of the songs got into the chart aswell.

Skrillex, possibly aswell. His remix of Benny Bennassi's song I've seen quite hyped up a bit, as with his remix of In For the Kill (whenever I visit a page related to that song on Youtube, all I see is arguements about whether it's better than Skream's remix ). I think he's also getting a bit of a fanbase.

BEP haven't split up, they're on an indefinite hiatus. They've been on one of those before and ended up coming back after 3 years.
Isn't Emeli Sandé incredibly likely to make it big before 2012?

She's arguably already made it fairly big as she already has 2 top 10 hits (albeit both as a featured artist). But Heaven looks like it could be a pretty big hit so I agree with you - putting Emeli on Sound of 2012 would be like putting Ke$ha on Sound of 2010. Assuming Heaven is a hit.

I sort of hope 2NE1 don't make it big because I'll be an AWFUL loon at that point!
I doubt 2NE1 will make it big, but then K-Pop's been 'literally about to explode' for the last seven years anyway so I'm a BIT SCEPTICAL to say the least.

Oh and re:Emeli, I'm sort of still half-expecting Heaven to 'do a Yasmin' for some reason, though all evidence suggests otherwise. Really hope I'm wrong though.

Plus I wouldn't mind a J-Pop female breaking through (Namie Amuro or Koda Kumi preferably), though Utada's failure to do so with two good albums makes me doubt that highly. I didn't know K-Pop has been tipped to explode for years, I thought it was a new thing. If that's the case, then I'm a bit sceptical myself now really.

I think there may actually be some substance to the 'K-Pop is about to explode' thing this time around what with 2NE1 recently making the top 50 on US iTunes Albums. It's not much but it's a start.

Anyway, I just found out recently that there was a Japanese act (The 5.6.7.8's) that had a top 40 hit in the UK in 2004 ('Woo Hoo' (#28)) :o

The Wonder Girls got a single (Nobody) to #76 on the Billboard Hot 100 two years ago, which was supposed to be the beginning of the Korean Invasion. Didn't happen.

Wasn't that given away in some sort of promotion which was for some reason also chart eligible? (A bit of a vague description but I'm sure I remember reading something about it a while ago). I realise the Korean invasion probably still won't happen but I think 2NE1's 'success' might signify something.

I was just looking at the discography of a K-Pop boyband (Big Bang) and apparently their album (well, EP) got top 10 on US iTunes! I never knew that before, though I've not been following them as such I check what they're up to occasionally. I suppose 2NE1 being top 50 (I'd forgotten that) is good, as the EP was entirely in Korean (as was Big Bang's). I'm in two minds tbh.

Oh, I was under the impression 2NE1 were the first Korean act (other than The Wonder Girls with their #76 SMASH HIT) to make any impression on the US chart.

Well Big Bang's EP was this year as well so they could both be related to K-Pop hype, just moreso for Big Bang. Maybe when/if K-Pop breaks through, the boybands will be bigger? In my experience of K-Pop (I've done quite a bit of delving) the material from the girlgroups (especially 2NE1) is much stronger. But as a typical Buzzjacker I would say that tbh.

It'd be interesting if Skrillex became big, it'd upset some of my mates who've been listening to him for ages and hate the mainstream  his collaboration with KoRn was really good, he's obviously talented if he can meld two genres as diverse as dubstep and nu-metal together.
