September 5, 201113 yr It's not awful, why must a Gary Barlow song be the lead single though! I don't like him.
September 5, 201113 yr No I was expecting something Snow Patrol esq I suppose but he's with Syco and it's written by Gary Barlow. This single in particular wasn't going to sound like that. I still think people are going overboard with how 'dull' it is particularly when they lapped Leona Lewis up.

September 5, 201113 yr Regina you're not actually SUPPOSED to advertise illegal file sharing you know! Jark I think its OK (isn't it?) as long as no-one actually takes up Regina's offer - thus admitting that they actually like it! Kath
September 5, 201113 yr Oh well, Matt can join Mel C on her vendetta against me then :P Mel C has a vendetta against you? Anyway, this song is ok on first listen, more style over substance I think as it sounds well produced but I can't remember anything about the melody after the first listen  Maybe it's a grower...

I've just forced myself to listen again and its a bit 'meh'. I neither love it or hate it. A bit forgettable really - I know I've been going off Barlow for about 2 years now but I would have thought he'd come up with something better than this. Didn't he have another Patience or RTW tucked away in his bottom drawer to blind us all with? Or now that he's the country's 'darling' via X-Factor - he realises he can churn out any old sh/te and it'll be swallowed up with glee. Kath The Video is quite possibly one of the worst, dated-looking, cheap music videos I've seen since Timmy Mallet's 'Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny, etc, etc' video!
September 5, 201113 yr Hmmmmmmm, it's decidedly average. Unfortunatley though, I can see it getting to No.1. Shame :/
September 5, 201113 yr I hardly think it's as bad as everyone is saying. What exactly was everyone expecting? Bad Boys? I would never expect anything as bad as 'bad boys'.
September 5, 201113 yr I don't think this is half as bad as everyone's saying, but I'm still disappointed in the vein it sounds way too 'X-Factor-y', and I was just hoping for something a bit more different coming from Matt, but this is just you're typical cheesy ballad :( I'm unsure about success for this, it really depends how well it's received...

Chances are the album will be quite different. I can imagine Simon heard it, didn't get it, and then asked Gary Barlow for an emergencys 'X-Factor-y' song to release as a single. Which would be a shame because I hoped Matt would stand up to Cowell a bit more. But that's just a theory. I just think it's weird they choose the one song Matt didn't write to release.

Gary's song for Geraldine in the Spoof X-F show was better than this though! Maybe Matt should have covered Geraldine! Kath

September 5, 201113 yr I think this sounds okay - it's exactly the sort of thing I expected them to come up with for him. As for who it sounds like, the verses sound like something dreary off The Feeling's latest album and his voice is almost uncannily like the lead singer in most of it.
September 5, 201113 yr Just listened to 'Run For Your Life' and it sounds like a massive hit...from 2005. :D Think back to 2005 when singer/songwriter types were dominating the chart. It reminds me of James Blunt 'High' which Gary Barlow rewrote as 'Patience' which in turn provided Take That with the launchpad to resurrect their career. It worked for them. Maybe it will work for Matt? :o In terms of X Factor first "proper" singles I'd rank them as follows: Leona Lewis - Bleeding Love Alexandra Burke feat. Flo Rida - Bad Boys Matt Cardle - Run For Your Life Shayne Ward - No Promises Steve Brookstein - Against All Odds (oh, there wasn't a proper first single :kink: ) Joe McElderry - Ambitions (yes, I think Brookstein's X Factor winners single is better :drama: ) Leon Jackson - Don't Call This Love (Worst. Winner. EVA!!!) To conclude, I like it for what it is. Matt Cardle was never going to release pure pop or RnB so the once popular singer/songwriter style is exactly what suits him.
September 5, 201113 yr Por Moi: Ambitions (I'm not sure if I prefer it or the original, the production on Joe's certainly has the edge though) Bleeding Love Bad Boys No Promises Don't Call This Love Against All Odds Run For Your Life To be fair the last 3 are all awful songs sang by awful men so I have no love for any of them. September 5, 201113 yr 01 Leona Lewis - Bleeding Love 02 Alexandra Burke feat. Flo Rida - Bad Boys 03 Shayne Ward - No Promises 04 Joe McElderry - Ambitions 05 Matt Cardle - Run For Your Life 06 Leon Jackson - Don't Call This Love 07 Steve Brookstein - Against All Odds I think the thing that annoys me so much in 'Run For Your Life' is Matt's voice. It just sounds so put-on...'run ferrrr your life'? Umm, no thanks. EDIT: It really says something about the quality of the singles when this pile of dirge isn't last or even second last! September 5, 201113 yr Now had he covered THIS it would all have been a different story POb4cWlibvc But he is too credible and real music to ever dream of making a song with a MELODY.
