They've got the best part of 6 months to rehearse the vocals, create a show and to get the routines down pat. I'm 100% sure that they will get it together.

Yeah, I gather from Twitter that those two performances/re-learning the lines and routines basically happened over the weekend. Considering none of them have performed together for ten years I think it was a really decent effort and am very much looking forward to the tour! Hope they leave out the crap solos of the Gold tour and just play ALL of the hits!

The problem is not the vocals or anything like that, it's the image. They just don't look the part anymore. They're too old to be wearing primary colours and doing disco dance moves to their old hits. It's just a bit cringeworthy. Take That made it big the second time round by presenting a new mature image.

Good point, and if they were to release new material then they'd have to update their image and sound to something more appropriate. Actually, a Steps equivalent of ABBA's The Visitors would be pretty fab.

It would indeed. By the way any idea who produced Dancing Queen? They onlyhave a hope in hell of coming back successfully if they ditch Pete Waterman.

Although that would be amazing, if there's a new studio album, and that's a big if imo, it will be cheesy as ever and will flop on its arse, I just can't imagine the public buying into new Steps material, this whole comeback success incredibly nostalgia fuelled. This won't be a Take That style comeback success but they've still outdone most reforming acts and somewhat surprisingly given their style of music has been absent from the charts basically since they split up (random 2007 Scooch top five hit aside )

Elliot Kennedy according to the album booklet, who used to be half of the True North production/songwriting duo in the early 00s with...Gary Barlow!

Maybe Lisa can make good of all of these contacts

According to the booklet, Eliot Kennedy & James Jayawardena. Hopefully that's a one off as it sounds awful :(

The Ultimate Collection is selling like hot cakes :o :D

Great! Did your HMV have many copies though? Mine only had room for about 8 in the new releases and a further 8 in the alphabetical section :( Not exactly great anticipation of how well this album would do which surprises me considering it's been doing so well on pre-orders.

Um... I don't wanna sound like I'm treading on anyones toes, but I read an interview Faye did with Digital Spy a while back and she states...

Are you still friends with the rest of Steps?

"Yes, we are actually. I would say that we are probably closer friends now than when we were together because we have more in common. There is water under the bridge from back in the day and we are very supportive of each other. The girls have got kids now, so that makes it important to stay in touch. It's not something that we can brush aside because the band was such a huge part of our lives. We got together just after Christmas, end of January, and all had dinner around Claire's. It was really lovely."

It's really nice that you all still get on...

"Don't get me wrong, it wasn't like that all the way through. Back in the day, H and I used to clash hideously personality-wise. And after the band split, that was really tough for all of us to decide what really happened and what we went on to next. It's really lovely to have that bond back again though, because only us five went through that experience. It's lovely to have them around again."

Do you get offered deals to reunite for one-off shows and tours?

"When one person gets an email from a telly person or company, we all send it to each other and discuss it as a team together, which is nice. And no, we're not getting back together to answer your next question. It's not in the pipeline."

So the show is completely fake?!

Can't remember how many exactly, but we sold all the DVD version, and a few of the standard too :cheer: Best selling CD of the day  :D Never thought I'd say that about STeps whilst I worked there

Like you say, that interview was from a while back (over a year and a half ago to be precise) and things have changed since. Although the show seems to imply at points that none of them have seen each other for ten years, that much isn't true, they were all at Claire's wedding for a start - it's the first time that they've discussed the split together though I think.

I think I'll wait until the UC is in the "2 for £10" or something. I don't think I'm that much of a fan to buy it brand new. But I keep getting the urge to play ITWYMMF, SYBM and HAN since the comeback so I should really get the CD.

Oh and LOL at Lisa during the ITWYMMF performance on This Morning

It was really nice to see them on stage performing again, even if they vocals were a bit dodgy, but im sure they'll get better once they've rehearsed a little more, also ITWYMMF and Dancing Queen are now in the itunes top 200 at #'s 171 and 188! I'd love to get a sales update for all the singles since the ones that were posted a few pages back are fairly dated.

#2 in the midweeks, c. 2.5k behind Evanescence (#1) and a couple of hundred ahead of Adele (#3).

Reckon they'll end the week @ #2 with Evanescence and Adele swapping places.

:cheer: :yahoo:

I'm not giving up hope on #1. Sure top 3 is amazing and about 20 places higher than I expected, but #1 would really top it off perfectly.

£40 for a concert ticket is not bad going these days, definitely paid way more than that for Leona Lewis, Bon Jovi and Rihanna recently although clearly the megastardom of those acts is miles away from Steps given they've been gone for 10 years.

I really am in 2 minds about the comeback. I genuinely hope they have some sort of success (the album seems to be doing well so far) and that the tour is successful. Steps are probably my favourite act of all time and going out on top at the time was a major shock but looking back they went out at the height of their fame and at a hugely successful period in the career and that feels good in a way, they didn't dwindle away at any stage. I have so many memories from 1998-2001 such as going to the tours, hearing their new singles, learning their new dance routines  etc etc and there is so much nostalgia attached.

I'd be horrified if coming back now tarnishes those memories. Watching the "This Morning" performances, there was something kinda downheartening about them being the wrong side of 30 and the routines not being as tight as they were before.

On the other hand, there were so many songs that we never heard a live vocal to, including Tragedy. So, even if some of the vocals from the This Morning performance were not great (Lisa's in particular) it is genuinely pleasing to actually hear them singing this live now. I have so many Tragedy performances on VHS and not one of them was live (even the Concert performances were mimed to pre-recorded "live" vocals IIRC) so it is just wonderful to hear them actually sing live now. Long may it continue, even if the vocal isn't brilliant.

I hope at some point Claire will do One For Sorrow live somewhere, I think the only time I've heard that live was on some German show shortly after it was released and Claire's voice was very pitchy. From the 2 performances on This Morning plus Popstar To Operastar, I'd be surprised if that were still the case, even if it is a very difficult song to sing.

Can't wait to hear Deeper Shade of Blue (live?) on Friday, time to dust down the old Blue Peter live performance of that one and compare notes :P

Im delighted the album is doing well for them, looks like this comeback is going to go a hell of alot better than many predicted, could steps be huge all over again? Heres hoping!

Good site actually :) Who would have guessed One For Sorrow was their second biggest seller? :o

Great site! I remember it back in the day and it was the site that always without fail had a list of their upcoming TV performances. I was glued to the site non-stop for about 3 years ... :o

If they do tour, all 5 of them should sing All Out Of Love. Would be epic.

Can you imagine the meltdown if AOOL manages to make it onto the tour setlist, given that basically its Claire all the way through with just a verse of H thrown in? Lisa and Faye's tantrums would be legendary!

Heartbeat/Tragedy really was huge wasn't it! Surprised to see Better Best Forgotten as their third highest selling single :o

I wonder why Buzz only sold half of Steptacular? I expect a 4th album would have sold even less, the UK was sort of getting over that sound by 2002, certainly by 2003 so even though the split wasn't in the best of circumstances it was better to go out on top than fade out. Makes a reunion easier to do at least.

I think BBF is only the 3rd highest due to it following Tragedy. I think any single that followed Tragedy would have sold astronomically. BBF was lucky because it was quite a poor sound and had a completely uninspiring (and complicated) dance routine to go with it. In that sense, they failed to capitalise on the success of Tragedy and One For Sorrow, the dance routine for BBF or whatever single they went for next should have been simplistic and obvious in exactly the same manner as Tragedy and OFS were.

I also think Buzz sold only half of Steptacular due to the change in sound. Buzz was far more mature sounding than Steptacular, I think a lot of the hardcore fans liked the progression but the casual fans didn't.
