It won't be enough to stop Example getting #1 though :(

Don't worry, Example shouldn't sell very much of this one in the long run, I bet "Moves like Jagger" will have far better total sales. :)

Bruno Mars needs to get his video out soon, may miss top 10 with how competitive things are going to get in the upcoming weeks. Sean Kingston looks very close to top 10 now.

Cheers (Drink To That) is doing brilliantly seeing as it is the 5th single from Loud. I hope it continues to climb. 5 top 20 singles (4 of them top 10) is a great achievement! :D

Lady Gaga should see Y&I flopping and come to the UK to do something about it!

Or she could see how well it's doing in the US and stick around promoting it - ensuring it collects some great sales to make up for the lack of sales coming from smaller countries, such as the UK.

As for Rihanna, it just goes to show you how one play on a major radio show boosts sales - it was in the 50s before and now it's cracked the T40 on iTunes - which I'm going to hold responsible to Chris Moyles who played it before 9am this morning. I'm not a big fan of the song, but I'm hoping it does manage T40 officially - just to rectify the mistake that was 'Hard' ft. Jeezy on the 'Rated R' album.

I wouldn't class the UK as a small country in terms of a music industry. It is still arguably the second biggest market in the world behind the US.

LOL. Have you seen the sales in Japan,South Korea. Such a laughable comment to make.

The biggest markets are US, Japan, UK and Germany - in terms of a mix of revenue for the artist and sales.

Japan sell so much more than Usa it's quite unbelievable. Us album sales are shocking and at times you see the UK number 1 outselling the US album number one, however single sales are quite fabulous in the us.

The UK market IS the second largest behind the US in the western world.

And actually the reason why sales are so high in places like Japan & South Korea is because of subscription based services. Those high numbers you see per week are NOT actual purchases. Basically people pay per month to listen to track and keep them legally as long as they have that subscription active. If they listen to or download that particular song then it counts as a sale. It is actually very misleading.

Do some research before you say someone is so wrong that their comment is laughable. I could say your comment is laughable but I won't be that rude. Just thought I'd put it straight :)

Looks like Sean Kingston is about to knock Emeli Sande out of the top 10 :o

9 Bruno Mars 38.3%

10 Emeli Sandé 36.8%

11 Sean Kingston 36.0%

12 David Guetta & Nicki Minaj 33.3%

I think the UK is a "bigger market" for a lot of US artists than Japan in a sense, because a lot of artists have no hope of doing well in Japan, particularly urban artists. However, Lady Gaga one of those US artists that is quite popular in Japan. Katy Perry and Ke$ha are quite popular there too, I think, so it might be a bigger market in their eyes.

Also, about Maroon 5, guys, it's that age-old rule I keep talking about!!! 90% of the time, American songs have massive longevity and big charts runs, and UK songs debut at their peak and freefall down the chart. This situation with Maroon 5 vs. Ed Sheeran, Emeli Sande, Example, Olly Murs, Wretch 32, The Saturdays, Pixie Lott, Calvin Harris is NO EXCEPTION! It's obviously going to outsell all those songs. That's what always happens.

I do think Moves Like Jagger will get to #1 eventually. There'll be one moderately quiet week where it will get there, or a week where the new releases under-perform (perhaps next week! :o).

I would love for MLJ to get to #1 but surely Pixie Lott next week is a certain for #1. I'd be very surprised if she even misses the top 3.

I'm not 100% sure about Pixie, but I do think she's a very strong contender. I'd like The Saturdays to get it the most, but I somehow doubt they will. :( I think Maroon 5 will be #1 contenders for quite a while though, so I don't think next week is their only chance.

Yea, I'd think they are still contenders.

I disagree on your post about MLJ having longevity because it's a US song. You can't label all US songs with that assumption.

For me anyway the reason is because MLJ came out of nowhere. It didn't exactly have great airplay before its release. CapitalFM and Radio 1 weren't playing it at all. It was just the smaller local commercial stations playing it. The music video didn't come out until the week before its release so it never got regular rotation on TV.

Basically I think now it's on CapitalFM quite regularly now and on TV a lot, more people are discovering it. The fact it sold so much in the first week I would think is a testament to how many people like the song in a sense. If it can increase week on week like it has done then it would have been a sure fire #1 if it had the backing of stations like CapitalFM and Radio 1 in pre-release. Look at Olly Murs for example, or even Wretch 32.
