It will be interesting to see the sales at the end of the week. If The Sats can do over 70k I'll be impressed. The most they've sold on an opeing week was 60k for their #2 with Just Can't Get Enough back in 2009.

Finally got round to listening to the Saturdays song yesterday (having not heard it once on the radio/TV) - and I have to admit it's rather infectious; although to me it sounds very similar to 'On the Floor' by Jennifer Lopez.

As for the battle, I'm glad Pixie Lott is pulling away - I'd much rather her score a third #1 single than the Saturdays have their first - 'All Fired Up' has nothing on 'Ego' - so I'd think it unjust if their first #1 single wasn't their best.

Leona Lewis looking set for top 5 then for sure - I thought she'd appear at #3 in the midweeks and then fall to around #5 - but it looks like a T4 placement is set. Shame to think Olly Murs and Calvin Harris will both fall 3 places though - and Ed Sheeran looks to fall 5/6 places.

It seems iTunes is fairly quiet and Maroon 5 are drifting a fair bit probably because most of the kids are back at school this week, I guess most of the downloading will be done in the evenings, probably pick up later.

Yeah I think a combination of people going back to work and everyone going back to school will slwo things down during the day and more movement/downloads 5pm+ :)

These % movements are misleading.

I think its because you're subtracting the two %'s rather than dividing them.

Assume artist A at #1 on 100% has steady sales, and is selling 1,000 copies per hour.

Another artist(artistB) starts on 25% (and are therefore selling 250 copies per hour).

By the next update, Artist A remains at #1 (100% or 1,000 copies per hour) but Artist B is now on 50% (therefore selling 500 copies per hour).

Using your subtraction method, you would be showing the increase for Artist B as +25%, which is clearly misleading as its sales have increased by 100%.

Therefore the % movements need to be shown using a divisor method - i.e. for Artist B, {50%/25%-1}=+100%.

I agree that the % are open to interpretation which I was trying to explain yesterday. As the #1s popularity increases everything else under it decreases giving the impression their popularity is dipping when it might be, it might not be though. There's no clarification at all, and I think the only thing that we can be connfident about is the gap between each position, not its %.
A Saturdays release always makes this board a lot more hilarious.

THIS

Personally, I think this week is interesting only in the sense of four potential new number ones going neck-on-neck. I don't even want to hear the two songs I haven't heard (Pixie and Sats)

The % movements are fine as long as the divisor method is used.

All that is needed are 3 simple things:-

  1. Calculate:- % in current update, divided by % in previous update, then subtract 100%. This gives the % movement for each track from one update to the next;
  2. The scale is: -100% being the smallest and (positive) infinity being the highest;
  3. When comparing 2 tracks' movements against each other, whichever has the larger number is performing better.
Simples :)

Why would teenagers download the sats just becuase pixie is at number 1 lol. Maybe they will just download pixie because they prefer it (even though its a rubbish song)

This.

The Saturdays If you use Vodafone UK, we’ve got great news for you – just text MUSIC to 97613 to receive All Fired Up direct to your phone for 99p! Texts from your Vodafone handset are free - and please note this service is unavailable for iPhone users.

Aaaw, reminds me of the old Mc Fly tricks back in the days :lol:

Sorry Danny, don't think I explained proper. A lot of Saturday fans (mainly teenagers) will be at school and it was quite late when Pixie overtook them last night so they could have been sleeping when pixie overtook them, just a theory.

Here's another theory:- a lot of Pixie fans (mainly teenagers) will see her at #1 on iTunes when they come home from school today and download her.

That makes more sense and I can see where you are coming from with that theory

I was kinda thinking the same thing

Just because Leona's doing the worst don't being an absolute cu*t I was just saying. Saturdays fanbase will more likely download multiple copies in order to hope it gets to number one.

No need to swear.

I'm not surprised Leona's doing badly given her airplay and the fact that the song isn't that good (she's not doing the worst though).

Saturday's fans being more likely to download multiple copies - I can believe that; but them seeing Pixie @ #1 and downloading is likely to be more than offset by Pixie (and non Pixie) fans seeing her at #1 on iTunes and downloading her instead.

The iTunes #1 boost is proven to boost tracks sales substantially so I was using that theory as it has much more credence.
