To be fair, we said Blue would do well because they were pretty big on the continent as well. Then we heard "I Can" and it sounded like the kind of song that should be coming top 5. You just can't call Eurovision anymore, it does seem to be that we take it seriously every other year then send any old crap the other half of the time.

The prediction for Blue to do well based on their popularity across Europe rung true, they did well in the Televoting, the jury killed them though which I think was rather surprising given how professional the song and performance seemed next to a lot of the stuff in the competition. Predicting how the jury will vote seems to be impossible.

It DID come top 5 (if we rule out jury votes) :P Hopefully The Saturdays will do the Eurovision for us! I do believe they could do something for us as well as boosting their profile in Europe. If we listen to 'The Golden Rule' or 'Ladykiller' for example, they definitely have the songs to do a very accessible eurovision friendly pop song. But I'd rather we just got a genuinely amazing pop song such as 'Higher', 'Up' or 'Ego' etc.. It could work out amazingly for them.

Well I suppose that's The Saturdays out since Una looks set to pop around springtime.

Not that they were ever in mind.

I'd rather have Pete Waterman back than Hurts. Vile vile vile band.

You couldn't be more wrong.

They are fantastic and the fact that they are just a little bit huge in Eastern Europe makes them textbook candidates. If they represent us (and I doubt it), it will the first time we send a credible band that are still establishing themselves (not some manufactured has-beens).

Looking foward to see who represents us next year, hopefully not an unknown. Unless they have an amazing song and is a great performer, a la Jade.
We should kidnap Loreen and cut 'Sober' down to fit the eurovision requirements! We'd win the contest, for SURE *.*
The acoustic version leaked ages ago so it'd not be possible.
Also isn't the deadline 1st Ocotber? Though I guess not with the Swiss internet selection and stuff...
I think they brought the deadline forward a month for some reason.

She'd be far more likely to return for Sweden next year in MF!

Indeed. The deadline is September 1st now. Not sure why either.

Steps won't be doing it - from Celeb Britain;

Steps are to perform for the first time since splitting, during a 'This Morning' Takeover.

The five-piece band, currently promoting their Steps Reunion show will become the first band completely take over the programme, on Monday 10th October - the same day that their new Greatest Hits Collection hits the shops.

In a first for the daytime show, band members Claire, H, Lee, Lisa and Faye will be involved in each item... so Claire could be putting her Masterchef skills to the test in the kitchen whilst Lee puts viewers through their paces, with his new found personal training skills.

Lisa told Celebritain.com "We haven't told anyone about this yet. It's so exciting. We're taking over and no band have ever been on the whole programme for the duration before".

"The best bit is that we'll be performing to songs as well. It's the first time we'll have performed together since we split in 2001. "We'll be joining in with the various segments, hanging out in the hub and getting involved in everything that's going on".

"It's quite difficult as well because Claire and H are both working away on tour at the moment, Lisa lives in dubai, but we've come together for this documentary and album and we don't know what's next".

One thing the band have ruled out though, is Eurovision. "I understand why people expect us to do it, especially as Blue came back and did it but I don't think it was really a great thing for them to do" said Lisa. "We really like the boys but we won't be doing that. We need to wait and see how this greatest hits album goes down and only then will we talk about the future of Steps and whether we'll be doing any new material".

I can't see that they'd do that well anyway, their sort of pop is long dead as a viable option for success in ESC, particularly coming from a mixed pop group.

I've heard THE most ridiculous rumour that KITTY BRUCKNELL is going to announce her plans to go into the running to represent us at Eurovision soon... Definitely BS.
Well I expect she'll try, but I doubt she'll be picked!

Starting to wonder when we'll hear the news of who will be representing us!

I really hope it's somebody somehwhat relevant to the current music industry and not that of ten or more years ago, we've been bottom two in the final 50% of the time during the last decade - what a dire record :drama:

The big names floating are Diva Fever (WHAT!), Joe McElderry (WHAT!) in a duet with Stacey Solomon (WHAT!), Atomic Kitten (WHAT!), and Mel C (FINALLY/WHY).

Haha  Please please please not Diva Fever, I could live with the other three. Atomic Kitten because they still reside amongst my all time top ten favourite acts () although I'm pretty sure Jenny Frost wouldn't want to do it again (the band OR Eurovision!) and Mel C because it's long overdue and something akin to First Day Of My Life would go down brilliantly (PLEASE no Rock Me soundalike though).

A Joe/Stacey duet could be quite interesting, but probably also a car crash and far too twee (it would definitely be a ballad, something alone the lines of Duncan James/Keedie's I Believe My Heart?). At least it would give Joe an excuse for another new rushed out album - 'Classic Eurovision - featuring operatic cover versions of all of your favourite Eurovision songs including a duet with Malena Ernman on La Voix 2012'.

'If you pre-order now you can receive a special version featuring hidden tracks for the fans, including a cover of Lena Philipsson - It Hurts!'
