Might be worth a mention that Hands All Over spent only three weeks in top 75 before re-entering this week.

You've just mentioned it :D

LOL that Saturdays review was scathing and extremely hilarious!

Thanks :D I must admit I did particularly enjoy writing that bit :P

I think you got a bit confused with the Snow Patrol paragraph on three counts:

1) Set The Fire To The Third Bar wasn't a new song, it got to #18 in 2006. Their last new song in the chart was 'Just Say Yes' in November 2009.

2) Set The Fire To The Third Bar only got to #56 in December 2009, its top 40 week was in April 2010.

3) Chasing Cars' last top 40 week was before that re-entry, in January 2010.

:P

Poor Frankie Laine only held the chart span record for a few weeks. I wonder if we'll see a Max Bygraves album in the chart one of these days, it seems all the other first chart people have been revived in the last couple of years

I don't know who the Top 5 oldest Artists, to have a Top 10 Studio Album, in the UK, are but:,

FRANK SINATRA - THE PREVIOUS OLDEST

He was 77 Years & 11 Months old, when he entered at No.5, with Duets, in the

W/E 6th November 1993 Chart. He was born on December 12th 1915, & he died

on May 14th 1998. It was a new Studio Album, of old Songs, that he recorded

with various other Artists.

SHIRLEY BASSEY - THE PREVIOUS OLDEST FEMALE

Shirley Bassey seems to be the previous oldest Female to have a Top 10 Studio Album. She was

born on 8th January 1937, & was 70 Years & 6 Months old, when she entered, (& Peaked),at No.6, with

Get The Party Started, on W/E 7th July 2007. It was not recorded in 2007, as it was Remixes of 1980's

& 1990's Tracks. However, Doris Day's Album is not contemporary, either. The Tracks were recorded

Decades ago. Only the spoken intro on Happy Endings, was recorded in these times. And, the rest of

that Track is sung by her late Son, Terry Melcher. (Died in 2004).

DORIS DAY's AGE

For some reason Doris may well have knocked 2 Years off her age! Several sources say

that she was really born on April 3rd 1922. On Wikipedia, it says 1924. Doris says 1924.

She's likely be upset, if you said 1922. So, it is best to keep it as 1924. But, it looks like

she is really 89 Years old - not 87 Years old.....(Apparently, Terry Savalas was also born

in 1922, but told everyone it was 1924....).

BARBARA STREISAND

By the way, in the latest 'Music week' Alan Jones says:,

"Two years to the week after Vera Lynn became the oldest woman to have a number one album – at the age of 92 – 87 year old Doris Day becomes

the oldest woman to have a Top 10 album with an album of new material, debuting at number nine (14,490 sales), with My Heart, smashing the

previous record set only a fortnight ago by 69 year old Barbra Streisand and her latest album, What Matters Most".

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

That is wrong. Barbra was just under 69 Years, & 5 Months old, when she had a UK Top 10 Studio Album, on W/E 3rd September.

Shirley Bassey was older than that, when she had a No.6 Studio Album, in the W/E 7th July 2007 Chart. She was 70 Years & 6 Months

old, when Get The Party Started reached the Top 10, in that Chart. (We can say that Barbra was very likely the previous oldest

American Female, to have a Top 10 UK Studio Album.....).

DORIS DAY - THE LONGEST CHART SPAN IN UK CHART HISTORY.....

Incidently, Doris & Frankie Lane, were at No.8, in the very first UK

Singles Chart, with Sugarbush (Mid November 1952). Frankie was

also at No.7, with High Noon. He had a No.16 'Hits' Album, in June,

of this Year. Giving him a Span, in the UK Charts, of 58 Years & 7 Months.

He's only held that Record since June. Doris has now taken it off him.

November 1952 to September 2011, gives her a UK Chart Span

of 58 Years & 10 Months.....

1945 Doris Day's First USA Hit Single.....

The USA Record Charts go back to the 1940's. Doris's first Hit

Single there was, My Dreams Are Getting Better All The Time.

It went to No.1 in April 1945, & stayed there for 7 Weeks.

The list may change again soon if Tony Bennett's new album (including that duet with Amy Winehouse) makes the top ten. He has just turned 85.

Yes - I forgot that Mr. Bennett may well have a Top 10 Album, soon.

We must surely be overdue a new compilation by Nat King Cole or Bing Crosby (either of which would snatch the record away from Doris). The record has been broken a few times in the past couple of years.

Bre - the Chart Record, that Doris now holds, is the oldest person to have a Top 10 Studio Album.

Therefore, neither a Bing Crosby, nor Nat 'King' Cole Compilation, can take that Chart Record away from Doris.

Vera Lynn was older than Doris, when he had a No.1 Compilation, in September 2009. She was 92.5 Years old.

Doris holds the Chart Record for having a Top 10 Studio Album.

That's assuming there is no unreleased material by Bing Crosby or Nat King Cole that is deemed worthy of release. They've both been dead for a long time so it's unlikely but not impossible.

I'm talking about the chart span record.

Bre - Yes, Bing Crosby, or Nat 'King' Cole, would take the 'Chart Span' Record

off Doris Day, if they had a UK Top 10 Compilation, in the future.

Like Doris Day, & Frankie Laine, they were both in the very first UK Singles Chart,

in Mid November 1952. As was Vera Lynn, who would also re-take that Chart

Record, if she ever had another Top 10 Album.

Suedehead - Even if Nat 'King' Cole, or Bing Crosby, were to have a Top 10

Album with 'unreleased material', they would only gain the 'Chart Span'

Record. They would not be able to take away Doris's other Chart Record

- the oldest living Artist to have a Top 10 UK Album. Vera Lynn remains

the oldest living Artist to have a UK No.1 Album.

Neither Nat, (died February 1965), nor Bing, (died October 1977), can ever

take that Chart Record, from Doris or Vera.....

That applies to the 'Chart Span' Record, too. Doris has the longest one by

a living Artist. As such, no dead Artist can take that from her.

Of the acts in the very first chart, the only ones that are still alive are Vera Lynn, Doris Day and Max Bygraves - so unless Vera or Max get in the chart again before they die Doris could end up the last act from the first singles chart to have anything in either chart while they were still alive.

That's basically a competition of who lives the longest and thus not very interesting. Although IF Vera Lynn somehow manages to release a new album that'd be brilliant achievement for her.

We need not just look at Acts who were in the first Singles Chart.

An Act, who was in the Top 10 in 1960, would gain the 'Chart Span'

Record, if they had a Top 10 Single, or Album, in 2020, or 2021. (That

qualifies Elvis Presley, Cliff Richard, The Shadows, & so on). Just as

The Beatles would take that Chart Record, if they had a Top 10 Single

or Album, in, (say), February 2023. (1963 - 2023 = a 60 Year Top 10

Chart Span. The 'Please Please Me' Single, went into the Top 10, in

February 1963).

So, it isn't just Acts, who were in the first Singles Chart, who can

take the Chart Span Record.
