I still can't decide which album I prefer.

The debut was more consistant and had no filler (imo) whereas this has huge stand outs and a few filler.

I'm so proud of Olly and all the growing success he's had lately with this fantastic album. I compare his success with this album so far to that which Will Young had when he released 'Friday's Child', because that album and the singles from it - 'Leave Right Now', 'Your Game' etc - were what broke him through and helped establish him as an artist in his own right after the 'Pop Idol' hype died down, and his success has been consistent ever since then. I'm hoping it'll be the same for Olly too.

What I like about Olly is that he's relatable. And he kind of has a universal appeal, like loads of my guy friends love him as well as the girls - they kind of see him as one of the lads - and when I was at his album signing just before Christmas there was quite a few guys who'd come too and they were wearing like the trilbies, striped tees, chinos, all of that malarkey which was wicked to see.

When you listen to this album it's got such a uniquely British feel to it, particularly in 'Heart Skips A Beat' and 'I've Tried Everything', it's not trying to ape anybody else or fit in with whatever is flavour of the month, and the little touches of it in the lyrics like 'We used to climb/Up the stairs/On the double decker bus' are really nice, it has a bit of a 'Penny Lane' feel to it in that sense. I'm really looking forward to his tour next month!

I totally agree and especially that Olly is very relatable, i have to say his debut album singles i didnt mind but they didnt stick with me where as the singles of the second album have, he also seems more established and cornered his market very well with the 2nd album. Actually i was at a party there last weekend and you tube was been used for playing music and i was amazed the amount of guys that were saying play dance with me tonight which is strange as i didnt expect Olly to gain much of a straight male fanbase but in general i think it almost seems fairly ok for anyone to say they like Olly and that i think is one the hardest things for acts like Olly to achieve. Also when you can gain that market it widens the market base thus i think its reflected in his sales of the second album to date, i would love the 2nd album to manage the same chart run as his debut and with a bit of luck manage triple platnum.

Really? That is so cool! Sounds like a party I'd love to have been at :P But yeah, it is interesting but it's also nice, cos' obviously if you appeal to a wider audience then your chances of longevity are greatly increased. It's something the likes of One Direction are gonna fail with in the long run cos' they appeal so exclusively to one audience who are either notoriously fickle or McFly chart run inducingly annoying!

I have to agree on the 1st album - I still love the 1st album and I think the first two singles were chosen really well and I still blast them all the time, but they did make a bit of a blunder picking 'Heart On My Sleeve' as a single. I like it on the album, but as a single it didn't work and I reckon they should have just had 'Busy' as a 3rd single and left it at that. It actually ended up selling more than 'Heart On My Sleeve' even though it only got as high as #44! If Olly was gonna release another ballad as a single again though, it'd need to be something like an 'Angels' where it's kind of anthemic and uplifting and you can almost hear it being sung back at gigs and stuff.

I reckon he'll be heading for triple platinum with this album soon enough, what with the tour and the 3rd single imminent, and also, I don't know if anyone saw it in the papers last week, he's being followed by cameras for ITV2 to do a 3 part documentary about his tour - apparently it'll be the backstage-y bits, some performances etc and he's apparently meant to be doing some different 'challenges' in each city that he's off to - think his documentary 'Olly Murs Revealed' that he did for them a few years back crossed with 'Challenge Anneka' and you get the general idea! It's gonna be on ITV2 in April so that will boost further sales for the album I think - look what it did for Girls Aloud's album sales when they had their 'Passions' series on there!

Olly might end up being the new Robbie Williams (minus the European and Australian fanbase), never make it in America but why would he care when he's produced 2 multiplat UK albums.

Do we know if there are any plans for a European onslaught? Surely if 1D can get a #1 album in Sweden, so can Olly!

Yeah he's going over to Germany at some point as HSAB is doing well there and he went to Austria at the end of last year. I reckon he'll go to Poland and places like that where his songs are already known as well. He's gonna concentrate on Europe for the future, it depends of course on if is musical style changes to translate better to an America audience, but he's selling alot of records domestically so he doesn't really have to bother.

Bizarrely HOMS had more airplay than Umbrella! Busy should have been the 3rd single, it got it's airing on the M&S ad though I suppose. The 4th shoulda been I blame Hollywood.

I really think they should at least TRY and give 'Heart Skips A Beat' a push in America. It's so different to anything in the US charts and it's so British, strangely. But I believe he could at LEAST reach the Hot 100 top 50 with it.

Yeah, I think Olly would do well in America. There's no males over there like him (except Jason Mraz maybe who is quite big over there) and I could see 'Thinking Of Me' or 'Heart Skips A Beat' doing well there.

Worth a try?

Well of course it's worth a try - anyone who's gotten reasonable success in the UK should at least try. Even if he doesn't set the charts alight he could easily add another 100k to his albums total. The US market is obviously not as huge as it once was in comparison to the UK but still even small success there can really add to your sales total. And with so many British artists breaking in over there, Britain is basically "in". He'll never have a better time to try over there than now. Best to do it now before Brits go back into obscurity or there are so many that he doesn't stand out.

I actually think the US would love him. You're right that Britain is the *in* thing right now and with The Wanted doing so well (and they're VERY British) it's the perfect time. You can't get more British than Olly. :D I think America would lap up the style (the hats, the chinos, collar shirts), the accent, the cheeky personality and the very British tunes. I imagine he could get a spot on American X-Factor as well due to his connections with Simon.

Hopefully after this era is done in the UK he goes over there.

There is indeed plans for a European onslaught - he's going over to Germany in March after he's finished the tour here, then a few other places in Europe - he did a press showcase in Austria back in December to tease the eventual campaign and he was really well recieved - 'Heart Skips A Beat' has been massive on airplay and downloads in both those countries, in fact it's #3 on German iTunes atm.

As for Australia, he released 'Please Don't Let Me Go' as a single there this time last year when it was on the soundtrack to a TV drama - kind of like an Aussie equivalent of 'Wild At Heart', forgotten for the life of me what it was called - over there and it did alright on radio but didn't really take off on iTunes. However One Direction have been absolutely huge over there with their single and album so there's nothing to say that Olly can't do the same with 'Heart Skips A Beat' or even 'Dance With Me Tonight'. I've actually got a cousin down in Australia and I sent her a copy of the 1st album last year and she loves it!

Oh My Goodness is the 3rd single

HURRA. Finally got to album's best song.

Excuse my French but holy shitballs...he's just confirmed he's performing at the BRIT Awards! This is huge! I'm so proud of him, I really hope he wins Best Single now (even though One Direction will probably get it...)
Great news. Will almost certainly send his third single into the top 20 and the album back into the top 10. :D
I really can't stand Olly Murs. He is totally overrated and his voice is so irritating.
That's if he does perform the 3rd single (even if he does I doubt it'd have THAT much effect anyway - I can actually see a performance of 'Heart Skips A Beat' giving a more positive affect to both the single and album). He hasn't done a major performance of HSAB yet so it'll be nice to see him do it with Rizzle Kicks at the Brits.

The first ever live performance of it with Rizzle Kicks was on the coverage of V Festival back in August, that's pretty major isn't it? I agree that 'Oh My Goodness' probably won't get performed - even when Take That performed a few years ago during 'The Circus' era they did 'Greatest Day' instead of 'Up All Night' which was out as a single at the time. Either way I'm sure he'll have something special planned, and like you said it'll hopefully get the album boosted towards triple platinum!

He also performed 'Heart Skips A Beat' on Children In Need.

He could always do a medley (like Plan B did last year)?

Could do! (Although without the Ofcom inducing riot police/rioters that joined him on stage...) ;D

The Brit performance no matter what he performs will give the album a nice sales plug and add a few sales to whatever song he performs, i cannot see him performing the new single so dance with me tonight i think is the obvious one he will sing.
