September 23, 201113 yr Author Did someone edit my post? I didn't get it wrong, Beautiful World is what I said and meant. :)
October 1, 201113 yr hv6VWw5isTY Not the best quality but enough to tell that it's better than their usual stuff. Original mid-tempo song with a catchy chorus, it's not treading any new ground but it's a lot more bearable than their usual lead off ballad. I don't think they're relevant enough to get a huge hit single anymore but it will do the job and sell the new Greatest Hits well enough... The scary thing is, it could have been released this time ten years ago in place of Queen Of My Heart and gone straight to #1, their 'sound' doesn't seem to have progressed - ever  In other news, I heard Safe used as a soundbed to X Factor US the other night, is nowhere safe from Syco's influence? Nobody even knows who they are there!
October 1, 201113 yr Awful, I'm glad they don't have the same foothold in the industry that they used to. 'World Of Our Own' is their only sole decent track ever. I agree 1000000% with this post. :D It's shocking to think that Westlife have had so many UK #1 singles yet hardly of them are memorable. I know for a fact that my neice (who was a massive Westlife fan around 2000 until she met her boyfriend and moved onto Eminem :kink: ) only bought one of their singles because she thought "the boys looked fit on the cd cover". Teenage girls + buying music = FAIL :D
October 1, 201113 yr For all the criticism they get I'm not entirely sure why and everyone would do the same. Yeah, most people here hate them, I do, but we aren't their target audience. I'm sure if you could do nothing for 10 months of the year, record a few songs and do a couple of performances and it were guaranteed to sell the best part of 1m copies you would do, I know I would. If they did 'f*** off and die', they'd only be replaced by something similar because there will always be a market for it.
October 1, 201113 yr The song isn't that bad actually! I thought it would be worse than that given Gary Barlow's latest offerings (John Barrowman, Alesha Dixon, Matt Cardle) but this really is a lot better than I thought it would be. Maybe Gary Barlow needs John Shanks as much as Robbie Williams needed Guy Chambers. Kath
October 1, 201113 yr I agree Kath, it's the best thing Westlife have done in many years, should have saved it for a Take That album I guess, although it doesn't really fit their new 'space and aliens' futuristic sound does it

BW for me has always been the best album they've done by far and I have a feeling that those sweeping tunes like Patience, Like I Never Loved You At All and Ain't No Sense In Love probably had a lot more input from Shanks than one is led to believe. I do wonder (apart from the glorious Back For Good - one of the best pop tunes ever, and Never Forget) how good Barlow really is as a sole songwriter? He seems to write pretty mediocre stuff (on recent evidence anyway). Mind you - fave song from BW is now Shine and I think 'ickle Mark Owen' has to take almost sole credit for that one! Kath

I believe that Gary Barlow had a big hand in writing the tracks but I doubt the production would have been as impressive without Shanks and the great thing about Beautiful World was that the big radio melodies were matched, as you say, with sweeping production. That said, he did co-write some great stuff for Delta Goodrem's debut album - my all time favourite album, I believe he wrote about half of it along with Eliot Kennedy, but indeed some of his recent 'efforts' have been less than inspiring. I still think that there's enough evidence to prove that he's one of the country's best songwriters, the problem lying that I think he and some other people believe that everything he writes is going to be amazing, whereas in reality the majority of his non-Take That stuff isn't up to much. He definitely saves the best for himself, and why not!

I'm beginning to wonder if Eliot Kennedy wasn't the brains behind those co-writes. I think Gary Barlow has got very, very complacent recently. Maybe he sees his future more as a TV personality and a professional 'charidee' person and not as a songwriter. If Run For Your Life and some other recent offerings are anything to go by ... I think he's probably right. Kath

I think he's probably right. Kath He may have been, I suppose there's no evidence to prove it though. I think he was just going through a dry spell during 1999-2005 - his solo career had completely floundered, the press treated him as a national joke and his confidence was probably so shattered that he 'lost it' so to speak. Certainly nothing he co-wrote in this period was impressive as anything on Beautiful World, perhaps he was just waiting to get his mojo back, and clearly it's come back in spades now, he's tying with Robbie as Take That's biggest ego! Credit where it's due for his input on Delta's album but Not Me, Not I aside it should be noted that all of his co-writes - whilst brilliant, were all my least favourite songs on the album  Thing is, Take That can't last forever so it's good that he's getting a backup plan in place - there will always be a market for them but I just don't think they'd want to be a Rolling Stones type band of still doing it in their 60s. I reckon there's one, maybe two or two and a greatest hits album left in them and that'll be it - and then he can move properly into TV, at least he's got his foot in the door now.

He's become such an insufferable prick though I truly can't abide the guy now! I was going off him a long time before he started waving Cameron's flag now he's hanging out having his photo taken with people who, if they coughed up their taxes as they should do, there wouldn't be much need for his 'charidee' work. I'm a cynic I'm afraid - I prefer people like Sandra Bullock and Kevin Costner who, when there's a problem, write a cheque out for a million quid instead of getting a million poor people to cough up one quid each! Its just free publicity for the already rich and famous. Bah humbug! I'm turning into a Dickens character by the minute! Kath
October 1, 201113 yr Author Oooh I absolutely love Lighthouse, the chorus is gorgeous! Excitment officially restored for this campaign! I heard people saying that Westlifes version of Chances had been used on XF US the week before Safe was played? Edited October 1, 201113 yr by Electro Paradise
October 1, 201113 yr It's quite funny; teenage girls liked Westlife, now only mums like Westlife.
October 1, 201113 yr It's quite funny; teenage girls liked Westlife, now only mums like Westlife. I wonder whether this will happen to JLS and One Direction in 10/20 years time
October 1, 201113 yr It's quite funny; teenage girls liked Westlife, now only mums like Westlife. Well really it's the teenage girls who liked Westlife growing up, so they have the same fans really  I dread to think that JLS will be churning out Take That-lite mid-tempos in 10 years time...
October 1, 201113 yr I wonder whether this will happen to JLS and One Direction in 10/20 years time  Please don't put ideas like that inside my head. :puke2: :puke2: :puke2:
