I think splitting is the right decision as they have become irrelevant. As already said their last few albums havnt sold aswell as they should, one single to promote an album etc was a sign it wanst going to plan, they also made the mistake of never really progressing or moving away from cover version. While they have done well in their day i think its the right time to go, i cant see them having big solo careers but you never know one of them might surprise us, although i do think mark or shane will be the only ones who will release solo material. I think nicky will do tv presenting or something and kian is already signed up to be on the panel of the voice in ireland, i can see kian doing tv work like that and possibly managing bands like wonderland etc.

Why are they splitting now? Why not about 4 years ago?
I want to ask you people a question. Wonderland , kians wife was in, got droped recently. . . my question is if they werent droped would westlife call it a day? would wonderland stay and westlife not? because wlife members quit because of families etc. . .

Wonderland were a flop and there was no way they wouldn't get dropped. No Ifs.

Westlife are splitting up because they are expiring and want to go out before flopping.

I'm so gutted about this I still feel they had a lot left to give. Going to miss them so much, I know they aren't popular but they had some amazing songs and they were brilliant singers. On a slightly positive note has anyone heard the preview of Poets Heart on amazon, the b-side of Lighthouse? It's so good!

That's now both my favourite groups split this year, The Saturdays are gonna be next with my luck.

Atleast Kian is on The Voice Of Ireland and I expect Nicky will still be around DJing and presenting. I hope Shane and Mark don't disappear. Shanes rumoured for the UK version of The Voice although I don't know how likely that is. I just hope Mark continues writing music, he was getting really, really good, it's be amaizng to hear the not-so-westlife sounding songs too.

Just can't believe all the hate that the boys are facing in the UK.

C'mon guys get over it, that they broke several records and were extremely successful over a long period. But don't blame them and their fans for the fantastic time that we had together. <_<

I cant handle it. . .

How do you deal with it every year between January and the end of September?

Previews of the new songs. Beautiful World is just amazing, they need to release this! Loving Wide Open too, not feeling Last Mile Of The Way from the preview, sounds a bit like Love Is My Witness, it might sound better at full length though, Poets Heart (Lighthouses B-Side) sounds better however.

They originally signed up for three singles from this album so I would love them to honour that and release Beautiful World and Wide Open as both are single worthy, and both are better than Lighthouse... by far. However, with the split I think thats probably changed sadly. Not suprised BW was in the running for the lead single, shame they went with Garys song over it as it's not even close in quality.

I have to say though if Beautiful World, I Will Reach You and Reach Out are anything to go by, then the rumours of Mark concentrating on song writing after the split needs to be true, he's yet to write a song I don't like and everyone he writes seems to top the previous!

Wow they sold out Croke Park (85,000 people, 3rd biggest stadium in the whole of Europe) in just 4... yes, four minutes! Obviously, thats the fastest Croke Park has ever sold out, it's incredible really. They've therefore added another Croke Park date for the 22nd June. Quite amazing to play Croke Park twice in the same tour.

I think Lighthouse is out in Ireland, Austria, Germany and Switzerland today. I don't know if they ever chart in three of those countries but I'm hoping it can do well in Ireland and obviously the UK on sunday. I'm never confident about them on the singles chart.

fantastic band undoubtedly. . . they are on the top still. . .

They've only sold one date? They would never sell out Wembley stadium.

Hardly. They will lose their top 10 single run this week.

Still on top?

Back home sold over 900 000 copies.

Where we are sold around 650 000

Gravity sold just over 330 000 copies.

And lighthouse will be their lowest charting single ever. Recent years have just been a long and painful downhill for them so they cant really say they finnish on top

Westlife should have finished before now, i think they have become irrelevant in the last few years and there last few singles havent done as good as previous releases, likewise the albums have decreased in sales aswell. The greatest hits will probably do well for them but the single will drop fairly fast.

Interesting though to see how it does in Ireland, as there is huge demand for the tour here, and adding a 2nd date in croke park is a big acgievment to be fair to them not many other acts can manage that in Ireland. I think the album will ok here and no doubt when they perform in croke park the album will get a strong sales boost.

I was never a westlife fan but i never hated them either, so i cant say i will miss them, in general im not a big boyband fan with the exception of Take That, but i dont even consider them a boyband these days its like they have gone beyond that.

I don''t mind Westlife, but the truth is they couldn't match the success of Take That and with the XF boyband production line churning out rivals every other year they didnt have a chance.

Ironic that ever since Take That came back they showed the demand is always there for good music, they re invented themselves and opened themselves up to completely new fan bases.

Westlife have never shaken the boring, stand up and walk toward the camera, G4 style of performing stereotype. Take That release Shine, Westlife release You Raise me Up for example.

They should get a top 5 album next week and a top 30 single this week here, probabaly two number 1's over in ireland. They might sell a couple of dates at the O2 if they play their cards right.

Hope JLS are the next to split up! Maybe thats just wishful thinking.
