which artists you would like to make a comeback, artists that have been away for a long time (2 years at least) & haven't been releasing anything major recently (unsuccesful collaborations don't count) ???? What should their new sound & image be in order for them to be successful again or at least stand a chance?? or how would u like their comeback to sound ?

Here is a list of artists i like & i think haven't said their last word + my opinion on what their comeback should sound like....

-Garbage : they used to be the kings of electro-rock, their last album 'Bleed like me' was released in 2005 and was disappointing compared to their usual standards... they were supposed to release an album in 2011 but they didn't so far...

their new album IMO should sound like their first 3 albums : pure electro-rock songs with catchy melancholic melodies... at least it would give me the opportunity to see them live....

-Madonna : ok so she's been away musically for 3 years & is due to release a new album in 2012... i hope her new sound is very electro , very Goldfrapp meets funk... her last album was OK but overproduced... she should work with new fresh producers not cliché ones like Guetta & Timabland & Red One....

-Little Boots: She released one of the best yet most underrated albums of all time 'Hands', it was not promoted at all, she should've released more singles before releasing it . 'Stuck on repeat', 'Mathematics','Meddle' and 'Symmetry' are all classics waiting to happen yet they were completely ignored... if she did some real promotion as Lady Gaga or Rihanna she could've sold 3 million of this great masterpiece which is her debut album. She should come up with some of the same quality of music with more promotion maybe this would help re-sell her debut album Adele, Amy style.....

-Geri Haliwell: the Queen of all Spices, she has scored more solo number 1's in the UK than any other British female, her first 3 albums were amazing, very underrated though especially 'Passion' who flopped badly, that album was very good tbh but underpromoted... i think she should comeback with a new sound that combines her old ones + new productions & collaborations...

-Cyndi Lauper: she released a great dance album back in 2008 'Bring ya to the brink' but was unnoticed... this time she should come back with the same formula but with famous collaborations (Lady Gaga, Rihanna , Guetta...) if she wants to be noticed again...

-Gabrielle : one of the most successful British female singers of all time ,she's the one who dared to release nu-soul jazz songs long before Amy Winehouse ,Duffy, Adele& Paloma... 2009 was the right time for her to make a comeback but she didn't... she can release a stong album now with jazz & blues influences with a new production...

-Kelly Osbourne : her 2005 album 'Sleeping in the nothing' is an underrated flop, it was such an amazing album, she should've promoted it more... she should come back with more of the same screaming rock chick formula with an 80's electro twist...

-Dannii Minogue : her last proper album was in 2003 'Neon nights' : a modern day dance-pop masterpiece... if her new album is just 10% as good then it's a winner... i hope she escapes from the X-Factor hype & baby stuff & gets back in the recording studio & does what she's best at....

-Holly Valance: Her last album 'State of mind' was an electro 80's inspired masterpice & is still praised by music blogs today... her lack of promotion & single releases ( she should've released 'Desire', 'Roll Over' , 'Hypnotic' from it) resulted in the album underperforming & charting at a low number 60 in the UK.... she should make a comeback with a similar sound & more promotion caus' she's a natural performer, and at 28 she's still has many active years ahead...

-Rachel Stevens : where did she disappear?? her last album was released a zillion years ago... her new sound should be upbeat generic dance, maybe that would make her successful again, which i doubt...

AGREE WITH RACHEL STEVENS!!! I think today's chart climate wouldn't be bad for her. I could imagine songs like More More More or Some Girls in the chart (and it's funny you said Madonna should adopt a Goldfrapp-esque sound, because someone on here a while ago pointed out to me that Some Girls sounds almost identical to a Goldfrapp song).

I agree that Madonna would have to do electropop/synth-pop music (most artists who want to make a comeback would have to at the moment, at least for their lead single). As a massive fan of Timbaland and 4 Minutes, I would like to see them do another song together again. Maybe as an album track, so it doesn't ruin her career , but I'd like something.

Girls Aloud - it's been nearly three years since they released anything and they ended on such a high (or a low if you consider their last single's chart peak). If/when they return, I'm sure they'd bag yet another number one - even if it is solely down to Cheryl.

Fergie - I've been waiting for a second solo album from her ever since 2006. 'Big Girls Don't Cry' needs a follow-up.

Escape from the baby stuff? You mean just abandon her son?

Anyway, Alanis Morissette needs to come back with a killer album. More of the electro-rock type thing she sampled with on her last album.

ELLIE GOULDING ELLIE GOULDING ELLIE GOULDING.

Desperate for a new album. I think she needs to go less electronic, down a more wombatty, noah and the whale road.

That way, her voice gets more attention, but people arent put off because its a pure folk 'Laura Marling' album.

Im too excited for the new album.

Nelly Furtardo could have a massive comeback as long as she releases the right song (like Maneater in 06')

Na, I think she should make album #2 more of the same as Lights but throw in the odd 'The End', 'Fighter Plane' or 'Who'd Want To Find Love'. But her last single was only a few months ago anyway.

I'd love a Nelly Furtado comeback.

Do people REALLY want Rachel Stevens back? She fitted in fine back in '03, but the standards have been raised these days and the public generally requires either a BIG voice or a BIG personality. Rachel fails abysmally on both counts. And yes, her "sound" would probably suit the current musical climate fine, but naturally this also means that she wouldn't actually be bringing anything new to the table at all...

I don't think Rachel Stevens would do well at the moment - possibly if she did a collaboration beforehand with a bigger and more relevant act currently.

I agree that Fergie and Nelly Furtado are both deserving of a comeback, but again both may not be what the music scene is in need of at the moment. From what I know, Furtado released an album in Spanish last year, as well as a Greatest Hits - so it's clear she's concentrating more on the latino genre and focusing on her fans in locations such as Spain and Mexico.

Holly Valance was too early with that second album. If she'd released it from about 05-08 it would have done way better.

I want to see the Backstreet boys make a "Proper Comeback" with a strong team behind them to help them back on top again. I hope they do signs to universal/interscope records like it was planned.

Donna Summer needs to make a comeback as well but she needs the backing of a big record label behind her to make it big again.

Da brat seh needs to hit hard withe her comeback and just like donna she needs a major record label investing on her comeback. shes got a reality show, book coming out so hopefully that' boost her profile a bit more.

MINI VIVA. I can ask Frankee Conolley over Twitter? They should actually take that heavy metal direction and bring it to the mainstream! I'm sure Xenomania can write some CRACKING heavy metal anthems for them if they asked nicely? :o

Seriously though, I'd love a Jamelia comeback though. More Superstar, less Thank You plz. :D Shame she too busy doing Mock The Week/Never Mind The Buzzcocks/[insert panel show here] these days. :(

So. Rihanna, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry don't have big voices and aren't bringing anything new to the table either. Everybody loves them.

On another note, I'd like Fergie and Nelly Furtado back aswell, but they need albums produced mainly by will.i.am and Timbaland respectively again, and they need to diss each other in songs again. So basically, I'm saying I don't want them to progress as artists, which might sound weird, but these days artists "progressing" means them making generic club songs with EXACTLY THE SAME dance beats as European artists were using 25 years ago, and with exactly the same lyrics as rappers were using in songs 15 years ago. So if Nelly Furtado and Fergie went back to making the same music as they were doing back in 2006-2007, they'd be really unique in today's chart climate. They'd offer something different, which is something we really need at the moment, which none of the mainstream artists are courageous enough to do (apart from the odd song we get like You and I by Lady Gaga or E.T. by Katy Perry).

will.i.am is a terrible producer these days though! Fergie would just come back with songs like The Time (Dirty Bit) and Don't Stop The Party. She should work with different producers. Timbaland is far past his best too.

I think they're both great producers. I think they're just trying to make mainstream songs that will be hits these days.

Just Can't Get Enough, produced by will.i.am, and If We Ever Meet Again, produced by Timbaland were only released one year ago, and they were very well-received I think. And then there was OMG aswell. So it's not that long ago they were making songs which everybody loved. So I think they've still "got it". Even Nelly and Fergie's albums weren't that long ago. Even if they're not making songs like that anymore, I think they probably still know how to.

R.E.M.

They won't, they just split up :o

It is my understanding that Girls Aloud will be making a 'Come Back'.

As will Steps.

However, neither were very big outside of the UK & Ireland. (A few Top 10 Hits

in other Countries, but not many). So, neither 'Come Back' will excite Europe

etc. as much as an ABBA one would. (But, ABBA will never 'Come Back' - They

are still on the 'Temporary break from ABBA', that they told their Fans about in

late 1982!).

I agree so far with Girls Aloud, Fergie and Madonna, the rest would sound so dated in 2012.

I need Santigold back in my life and also Delta Goodrem needs to come back already, she has been working on her 4th album for ages.

Lily Allen should also return, I hope having a baby is going to inspire her!

I also miss Bat for Lashes, La Roux and Little Boots, it's been over 2 years since their albums were released.

So. Rihanna, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry don't have big voices and aren't bringing anything new to the table either. Everybody loves them.

Yes because they are at least visually interesting and know how to put on a SHOW. Which is what I was getting at when I said you have to have EITHER a big voice or a big (stage) personality. They're not my favourite singers by any means, but there's no denying that GaGa, Katy Perry and Rihanna have presence and star quality in SPADES, and are all hugely recognisable. And between them they've come up with some of THE pop classics of the century so far (Bad Romance, Poker Face, Hot N Cold, Firework, Umbrella, Only Girl In The World).

Rachel Stevens simply HASN'T got that same presence; she's a nice girl but there was never anything distinctive about her at all. And whilst some of her tracks were reasonably good, I don't think she was ever going to come out with a Bad Romance really. Some Girls could have been sung by almost ANYBODY.
