Well, think of it this way. More chance of us who did vote winning the next contest :P

YES. My amazing entry (as-yet-undecided) will slay.

I was VERY lucky to get voting on time. I just so happened to be browsing in the early hours of the morning...otherwise I'd have thought that I had the whole of today to vote.

I think that even though it isn't a written rule, it's fairly standard for the host to be online and actually declare the end of the voting. Since that hasn't happened I'd say it is fair to let votes count at least up until whatever time Martyn comes back. Since he hasn't been on since yesterday there obviously wasn't a particular reason he NEEDED to close at 11am either.

I do agree that accepting late votes should not be done, but in this case an exception seems the sensible option. Do we know how many people got caught out? It seems to be into double digits which surely makes it more than just carelessness/bad timekeeping and a genuine mistake based on past deadlines being PM.

I feel my entry could do well too. I am fairly certain on who I am entering.

Wouldn't it be sensible so even if the people didn't vote on time but still voted after be eligible to participate in the next contest but still suffer a 33% reduction? As there I'd still many people who havnt voted yet but in all fairness, this thread has been open for more than a week which is more than the previous contests. Rules are rules afterall and if the non voters get an extended time, it too would be unfair to the people who took notice of the deadline and hence voted prior the closing date.

I guess Martyn is apparently not going to be here today so we will see how it goes tomorrow then :D

I agree, whether or not he decides to accept votes from people who missed the deadline I really don't think that anybody should be banned from the next contest, there'd be nobody here

Is it who you told me yesterday?

Is it who you told me yesterday?

Featuring a certain hottie? yes.

In fairness I think part of setting a deadline for this game is that you (the host) send reminders. I only remembered to vote when I woke up this morning about 80 minutes before the deadline. Ordinarily I would vote for the late votes to be excluded but with no reminder PM that would seem overly harsh.

No, the banning is off the table since reminders weren't sent out, which is one of the conditions.

The 33% bit is the part open for discussion...ultimately it's up to Martyn but personally I think he should let it slide this time, EVEN THOUGH Kopecka and Hendinia voted after the deadline and me saying this could COST me a victory.

I think it should be up to the mods, this is a bit of a different case regarding the deduction. If it were up to me, I'd say deduct but don't ban - I know the results would radically change but you can't just throw all the rules away. Banning is totally unfair though.

Is it? I thought sending reminders was optional? (although admittedly I can't remember anybody not taking up the option before!)

You could get out of the double winners club first :w00t: although I agree with you, a default victory would be very unsatisfying.

I can PERSONALLY TESTIFY that Martyn was not spending the hours after 11am calculating the results, so there's not much reason for the precise early deadline.

How many people failed to vote on time this month?

The thought of Tyrren STILL winning despite a 33% deduction is rather nauseating.

Personally, seeing as the host hasn't been online for the end of the voting, I think the mods should decide on what should happen following non-votinggate. It's not ideal but I think it's probably the fairest

The voting window was much longer than usual though with the site downtime so there was more than enough time.

If you assumed it was PM it serves you bloody right for failing to read properly.

It's not whether he had time to calculate the results but rather keeping with the deadline though. The deadline really isn't early since it's well past a week of the final voting..
I kind of agree with everything being said, even though they all conflict  Really, it is true that voting has been open for well long enough for people to have been able to vote, and they should've read it properly. But banning is deffo ruled out, it's far too unfair to ban non-voters as we'd have no-one left. And countering it, Martyn hasn't actually been online since the deadline so theoretically it should be fine to vote, but then again that's what deadlines are for. Personally, I wouldn't accept the votes but just give the deduction, seems fair enough to have some kind of punishment but not go full on due to the mix-up.
Deadline was brought up by more than one poster in this thread yesterday. I would've mentioned it earlier had I known everybody would've not read the first post properly. If 10 out of 30 people don't do things right then surely it doesn't mean that this fact should be overlooked?! Perhaps Martyn didn't want to close the voting on 11pm yesterday and decided to give a few more hours. After all the topic was opened on the night between 29th and 30th.

If I was the host this is what I'd do:

1 || Accept all the votes up to 11pm.

2 || Apply a deduction for the illiterate.

As a moderator I can guarantee this - There will be no bans for failing to vote this month.
