Could we be in for another FSR Rontvia win now with all these 33% deductions? :o

A default win? What a thrilling prospect!

Of those that voted on time though I'd still place Herzebania in front of me and potentially Ojnoj too. A 33% deduction for Kopecka even on a hypothetical score of 210 would bring them down to 140 which probably isn't a winning score anymore - if Martyn decides not to deduct anybody then they're still sailing to victory in my eyes. It's like the Moves Like Jagger vs. We Found Love battle :o

Probably the easiest thing to do for future editions is to have the deadline always set at midnight, that way you just look at the day of closure and nobody should be caught out.

I really think Martyn should make a decision before he reads all the latest votes though, so he doesn't know how the result would go and be subconciously swayed.

I always set deadlines at 11.59pm so that nobody gets confused by the 'which day does it fall on' factor and so I have a good few hours to prep during the next day before I announce the results that evening. I have accepted votes in after the deadline before but generally only when somebody's PM'd me before to inform me that they'd be a little late because of X circumstance, and that's never been by more than a couple of hours and not a problem if I've been told and can thus begin my prep with them slotted in to include later.

I tend to do midnight for convenience

I do think that the mods should have more of a say over dates and times in the future. I'm not sure if Martyn ran the 11am thing past anyone, but if I'd seen it I would have at least questioned it...
Really?! All of this started because me & Tirren were like 20 minutes late? It's hardly a lifetime... and Martyn wasn't even online.
Tbh a lot of this is speculation, we really have no idea how many people missed the deadline, and by how much but Martyn hasn't actually posted a list of who's voted at all (unless I've gone mental).
I realise 'a deadline is a deadline', I do appreciate this - I just think 20 minutes late when the guy wasn't even online, is a bit harsh.
Haha! :D I literally only just noticed the deadline was 11am and not pm when I logged in this morning! Not that it matters either way. I'd have been fuming had this happened two or three years ago but really I only comment now as I've never quite understood the deadline fetishism some people on here seem to have! Fair enough if it needs to be done there and then, but the point of a deadline generally is that the contest can continue at a given point. The contest is quite obviously not continuing at this given point, so I can't really see why everyone's spaffing themselves stupid over 'DEADLINES MUST BE MET THIS IS SO UNFAIR' etc.!

The difference is is that people got far more time to vote this month and yet they expect the rules not to count just because they thought the deadline was 11PM when it clearly stated 11AM? Most of us got our votes in before that time, so it's not as if people were "hard done-by". I'm raising the issue which is that two people were banned for doing the same thing last month, yet people expect the rules to be swept under the carpet because they can't read! Of course you can be a little late with your votes, but don't suddenly blame the weird deadline that was set about 10 days ago.

That is true indeed^

It also tells people not to vote at last midnight and safest would be to vote atthe middle of the final voting to avoid this.

I suppose Martyn set the time of 11am on purpose because he's busy and as a result, it gives him more time to compile the votes up? I too am confused if not for this reason why would he set an awkward deadline..

People have never been banned - and I can't remember a time in recent memory in which they've received deductions - for being a few minutes past the deadline! I apologise for being late but now seems to be the strangest time EVER to decide enough is enough and enforce penalties for lateness of a few minutes/hours when the most people are subject and when it doesn't make the slightest bit of difference!

:cheer:

Anyway the point is not that people would be banned for voting a few minutes past the deadline, but for voting several hours late, of which we have no idea if noone did or not...

My god that took FOREVER to read through.

There are 27 votes in my inbox, which is 43, which means there are some people who still haven't voted, unless I've miss counted. I will work out who later.

Of the votes in my inbox 7 of those were late. I am really unsure about how to proceede.

There is a fair few pages of opinions here, and the mods have said a fair amount on the matter.

If you want to discuss it one on one just PM one of us.

I don't understand what you are having difficulty understanding. You missed the deadline. End of. It doesn't matter how much by, its always been up to the host if they'll accept any votes after the deadline. Regardless of if they are offline, online or on mars.

The only reason I'm not of the opinion that your votes should be disregarded all together and you getting a penalty and a one contest ban is because of the wide confusion over the deadline. Even though it clearly states am. As far as I am concerned you've had ample time to vote but if I was hosting I'd accept all the votes cast before 11pm with a penalty as they missed the deadline. This is down to the individual host, but from my point of view you MISSED the deadline. Doesn't matter if it was only 20minutes, few places in life would forgive you a minute.

Also, we've been on this crackdown for the past couple of months, this isn't something new from this mess. It's being enforced and we're not going to give everyone a free pass this month as it makes it harder next month to enforce this.

Would you care to point me to where the host's discretion is being invoked here, Phil?
Martyn is a first time host, this is an unusual situation, so he doesn't know what to do. We are helping him out, and whatever decision he makes will be the right one.
