Check you, mr grumpy! :P

White Lies is dance pop tho... Why do people consider it as pure pop? I know it's terribly slow and boring, but that chorus definitely has a Calvin Harris dance vibe to it. I love the fact that the girls thought it was so shit that they didn't even bother performing it on their tour unlike Wish I Didn't Know and For Myself which are quite weak also.

Because you are stating that The Saturdays are better vocally, live (acapella or not)! When Little Mix and Stooshe have much better harmonies, imo. I'm not saying they need "great voices" for the songs they release, I'm just discussing back at the claims that The Saturdays are better live vocalists, when I think differently. I don't need to keep saying the Sats are my favourite girl group at the moment (it's too soon to start ranking Little Mix amongst them - but that puts them ahead of Spice Girls and Girls Aloud for me!) but it feels like I HAVE to in this forum.
Did I ? I don't remember...If so, I'm sorry. ;) I meant they are on the same league. Because you were stating that Little Mix "SHIT ALL OVER" The Saturdays which, excuse me, but means that they are "freaking much more better" vocally...which is not true. They might be better, yes, but let's not get too far, shall we ? The only one with the strong voice in the group is Perrie, as opposed to The Saturdays who got two (Vanessa and Rochelle). Then you got a second really good singer (Jade), but The Saturdays have Una. See, they are in the same league vocally. I'm not saying The Saturdays have better voices, because as you stated, Little Mix provide really good and better harmonies, but they are on the same league. Maybe you don't get what I'm saying by "league". It's not that they are equal. It's just that the difference between their respective talent is not big....which is something you were implying when you were saying "LM SHIT ALL OVER THEM".

Your last paragraph is complete nonsense though. :s Little Mix DID have a harder job of breaking through than your average group/solo X Factor star. They were put together at bootcamp, "meh" performances at the start of the live shows (which many people predicted they would be out within the first three weeks - like every other girl group on XF), it's harder for the public to connect to a group of 4 as opposed to just the one person, but they worked their arses off on X Factor to show that they are a good girl group and that they aren't like the other groups on XF prior to them. They still had to work hard to get the support and the promotional slots, it's not given to them on a plate just like that. Why did Leon Jackson, Matt Cardull, Joe McElderry etc.. all struggle to get the airplay and promo slots, if it was that easy for a winner? Especially for them as their seasons of XFactor had more viewers!
How was it hard? They got that Red and Black performance like One Direction had the year before. It's not hard when you're under Syco and you got Simon Cowell on your side. It is not them who are working hard to get those slots, it's their team and everything.

The fact that you comparing Little Mix, a group that is marketed towards the young market that will buy anything from them, with those "look we're so credible" act that are marketed towards the older public is what is a total nonsense. Little Mix were always going to get it because they were always going to be marketed to a younger public. Also because Wings is a much better song that anything these guys have released. It is catchy and current, hugely radio-friendly which helped.

And they were actually pretty lucky to be on X-Factor. One of the things that people say about The Saturdays is that they uninterresting. As a fan yourself, I think you can say that this is not true, but they only show it in their flips or things like that. Little Mix had the chance to show that they were all fun and stuff in front of millions of people which I'm pretty sure The Saturdays would have loved to do because this is one of their main problem.

Yes, The Sats DO need to step it up. Like I keep saying, they're 5 years ahead of the other girl groups, so why are they releasing watered down stuff that only has appeal for about 10 plays, like '30 Days' or 'Notorious'? They should have their own sound and identity by now. They ARE struggling to find themselves as a group, both image wise and musically. They need to sit down, think about the things that work best for them and play to their strengths! Their sales aren't going to lie. 'Up', 'Ego' and 'Higher' are their 3 biggest selling songs. All three are modern day, pop classics, imo. They had one (well several!) on OYR in 'White Lies' most notably! So why aren't they sticking to them pop songs and just jumping on every bandwagon possible, just to try and get a number 1 hit! I still think 'Ego' and 'Higher' would have been their best shots of a number 1 single, had it been the lead singles from their campaigns, and this would all be a completely different story.
Notorious is better than anything these other girlgroups have ever released. 30 Days was definitely a watered down version of their On Your Radar sound, but then they didn't really do anything with it which clearly shown they didn't give a shit about it. Its purpose all make sense now that we know What About Us only get its release in January. That would have mean a bit more than a one-year-gap between their last single and the new one.

Sitting down to find what kind of girlgroup they want to be, musically and image wise isn't "stepping up". That's what I'm trying to say. The only thing they have to step up is their harmonies, that's it. Everything else is on the same level as the other girlgroup (as the performance of DNA proved).

Although I think we're got a little problem here...Clearly you want them to do pop... but what if they actually sat down and said "we're gonna do dance". Has it ever crossed your mind? I'm not saying they did, but they could have. You want them to do pop and you think that if they think about it they will go back to pop, but they actually might want to stay dance as their most appreciated song is pure and big dance track (All Fired Up).

Well this is all subject to opinion, and I just thought I'd give my two cents in to as to what I think and that's Little Mix are a far stronger, and better girl group, vocally than The Saturdays. I still stick by my word that they "shit all over them". But that's me.

They do have to work just as hard as any other acts. Like I said earlier, RAB really isn't as brilliant promo as it's being made out to be on here. They still had to work hard to get their image right. They had to work hard to get the right song to launch themselves properly with. They give everything in every performance they do. I just think they come across better in interviews than The Saturdays do. But again that's just me. They just seem more marketable and more likable, which is why they connect with the public. The Saturdays, I dunno if anyone else feels the same way, but to me they come across as like they're untouchable almost and like they don't usually want to be there. Their recent-ish webchat was appalling too! They're very lucky to still have fans after that.

It'll be a step towards "stepping up". They need to get songs which make them stick out, and not follow the trends in which they think is "cool" or whatever. Or if they are going to follow the trends, then try making it their own and put their own stamp on it and play on it. (Like Little Mix have done with 'DNA' - which is like 'E.T.' by Katy Perry - which was considered a highlight by many, of their performances during XF). 'All Fired Up' was their biggest opening week sales, but isn't their biggest seller. 'Up', 'Higher' and 'Ego' are their highest sellers and are the tracks that the public (and fans) obviously like the most from The Sats. I don't see why they haven't tampered more with those type of songs. They have a sense of Saturdays to them. A lot of People were branding 'All Fired Up' as faceless and generic. Which isn't what they need.

Anyway, 'What About Us' from the live snippets we have, it sounds like a step in the right direction and could be this eras equivalent to 'Ego'/'Higher' instead of 'Forever Is Over'/'Missing You' sort of leads.

I don't understand how you can't say they are so much stronger vocally just because of harmonies? Singing is more than just singing with 3 other girls to hide your weaknesses. Compare their solos to the solos of The Saturdays and as I said, they are on the same league. Excuse me, but Leigh-Anne and Jesy and her awful vibrato doesn't "SHIT ALL OVER" Rochelle, Una and Vanessa. As I said, better harmonies and their voices might just work better, but to say they shit all over The Saturdays "vocally" is just an overstatement.

I think we can put the debate about either they have worked hard to get the promotional slots aside. It's not really relevant anyway :P

However, They did try to recreate Up, Ego and Higher tho. They have worked with the same writer (which is Ina for the three songs) and two of the three producers. 2am was shit and nothing like Up. Notorious and Faster weren't as appreciated as Ego. And the other Ina written tracks on the album doesn't come close to Higher. It's not their fault if the producers and writers can't get something as good as the previous one. Fans wanted a ballad as a third single for OYR, The Saturdays gave them one. Really, these girls do everything their fans want. People liked Last Call ? There you go, they worked again with the same writer. People liked All Fired Up/Get Ready Get Set, there you go they have worked with Xenomania again. People liked Here Standing and wanted it as the third single of Wordshaker, there you go they have worked The Jam again. They always try to recreate songs like their previous ones + working with new people (Diane Warren and Darkchild and the people behind What About Us). Really, these girls really don't get the appreciation they should get.

This is becoming boring now. Anyone who wants to debate and battle it out should take it to PM's. :coffee:

I think Little Mix have proved on more than one occasion that they can deliver a better performance than The Saturdays. Look at their 'I'm Like A Bird', 'E.T', 'Telephone', 'Don't Let Go' and You've Got The Love' performances from the X-Factor. They'd only been together a month or two and yet they were delivering better performances than The Saturdays.

It's just sad that they were the only girlband on the scene for three years and they failed to capitalise on it, and now in 2012 we have two new girl groups who've already had a bigger hit than them.

Is it possible to live in a world with more than 1 girl group? Yes.

Change the subject or i'll lock the thread.

Its funny; you should remember these girls were part of the X FACTOR. I'm guessing a LOT of money was put in to manufacture them.

Back to reality; does anyone know the numbers they performed to last night or whenever their headlining gig was? I mean for a gig, 3 songs seems too little but they must be quite busy I'd imagine.

If you're talking about their last gig, it was a club performance. So it was their usual four songs : Notorious, What About Us, Higher, All Fired Up. But they are indeed playing at the Rozy Theatre on October 30. It seems a bit premature to be honest, but oh well.

I hope they have some other performances lined up!

By the way, they talked about the album during an interview with PopCrush :

Before all the hilarious squealing and commotion, the Saturdays sat down to talk to us about what’s in store for their yet-to-be titled album. Their first single ‘What About Us’ – featuring reggae artist Sean Paul — will make its way to radio airwaves in January, a song that they performed for the first time at Perez Hilton’s MTV VMA after-party. “We were so scared,” admits Frankie, being that it was also their first performance in the States. They also talked about the treatment for the single’s music video, which is “laid back — it’s the five of us just having fun in L.A., and then we go over to a baseball field.”

The album is far from completion, but already they’ve been working with producers the Jam and heavyweights like Dianne Warren and Rodney Jerkins. One song they’re absolutely in love with that they hope makes the album? ‘Leave the Light On’ – which is produced by the Jam. “It’s a ballad with a beat behind it as well,” they stated.

“Next year is going to be a good year for us,” Rochelle admits. “We obviously can’t say too much about it but it’s going to be so exciting. We’ve got so much in the pipeline.”

I really hope Rochelle isn't her typical self when she says they have got so much in the pipeline.

Seems quite petty, tbh. This subject has made the forum more active than it's been in ages.

Not really.

No one wants to read massive essays.

Just goes to show that members of the forum would rather compare girl groups in such unnecessary detail rather than discuss The Saturdays (as this is a Saturdays forum) latest news in the US for example.

It's not like there's nothing else to discuss.

woops, sorry you weren't allowed to debate.

Are you serious?!?! (Bit in bold)

A discussion forum and you're saying no one wants to read "massive essays" (aka, a discussion/debate)?

Yeah. I don't see the harm in this at all. It's getting broing now, yes. But we're DISCUSSING on a discussion forum... none of us are personally insulting each other and I don't think it will get personal either, there's no reason for it to. You can't lock the thread, just because we're debating and comparing girl groups to each other. If we was to do this all around the forum, we'd have no Sugababes or Girls Aloud forums and we'd have 90% of the threads shut down/locked... Comparisons are ALWAYS going to be there, and there will be no way of getting around that, than to debate/discuss with each other.

I think it's because we're kind of not talking about the topic itself which is The Saturdays in America...

So on that topic... Hopefully, since they are under a different label there and thus a different management, I hope things will go well for them.

I really can't wait for What About Us premiere. I would love a 2-months-before-the-release premiere like The Wanted did, but I don't see why they would do that... -_-

woops, sorry you weren't allowed to debate.

Apology excepted.

I'd love for them to "smash" America............in the sense they get a platinum single. Wishful thinking yes - but hey we can all dream. :D
Apology excepted.

Oh, when trying to act cocky, at least spell right dear.
