Posted October 2, 201113 yr ...has any record EVER been number 2 behind five different number ones before? I remember Alice Deejay being number 2 behind three, but can't think of many other similar? (Can't remember how many Love the Way You Lie was last year) Also, as it seems likely it may make no.1 next week, has any record ever been as long as five weeks at number 2 and then gone on to number 1? Jason/Kylie did 4 I think, and Abba's Fernando similar - any others? Edited October 2, 201113 yr by richy67
October 2, 201113 yr Didn't you already ask the latter question in the chart show thread? Someone did anyway because it was answered - Jo Stafford's 'You Belong To Me' (the second #1 ever) spent 7 straight weeks at #2 before going to #1 and 8 weeks at #2 in total before that. As for the former question I have no idea, I can't even think of any that were stuck behind 4 but there were a few that got stuck behind 3. EDIT: LTWYL was stuck behind 4 different #1s but they weren't all consecutive like Maroon 5's. I think that may be a record for them. A shitty unwanted record but a record nonetheless :lol: Edited October 2, 201113 yr by Bré

Someone did anyway because it was answered - Jo Stafford's 'You Belong To Me' (the second #1 ever) spent 7 straight weeks at #2 before going to #1 and 8 weeks at #2 in total before that. If he didn't ask it, I would have. :) BTW, which was the last song to spend 5 straight weeks at T2, whether or not it ever was a #1?
October 3, 201113 yr If he didn't ask it, I would have. :) BTW, which was the last song to spend 5 straight weeks at T2, whether or not it ever was a #1? All-4-One's I Swear in 1994 perhaps? Initially I'd thought of Shaggy's It Wasn't Me but the 5 weeks that that spent at #2 were interrupted by a week at #3, likewise Kate Nash's Foundations, Shakira's Hips Don't Lie and Celine Dion's My Heart Will Go On which both had five weeks at #2 interspersed by weeks at other positions. I can think of quite a few '4 consecutive weeks at #2' since then (Rule The World, Lose My Breath, Price Tag, It Wasn't Me) but no other five week straight stints.

These weeks weren't all in the same chart run. But its an interesting stat anyway.
October 3, 201113 yr I thought that "Just Dance" might have spent five weeks at #2, butt I was wrong - its run went 3-1-1-1-2-2-2-2 behind initially Alexandra and Leona, then later behind Lily Allen (similarly to how "Price Tag" spent four weeks behind "Someone Like You" after leaving #1, except of course "Just Dance" outsold "The Fear").
October 4, 201113 yr Take That's Rule The World was held behind Leona for weeks and has sold over a million copies.
October 4, 201113 yr It was only 4 weeks at #2 though. If Rihanna gets her way it could be six (!) for Maroon 5.
October 4, 201113 yr Take That's Rule The World was held behind Leona for weeks and has sold over a million copies. Rule The World hasn't sold over a million copies.
October 4, 201113 yr Is Rihanna to Maroon 5 what Flo Rida is to The Saturdays? :lol: I was thinking that earlier! :lol: Plus both pairs of performers have collaborated with each other 1 year after their original chart battles. :lol:
October 4, 201113 yr I think Destiny's Child - Lose My Breath was behind a different chart topper for each of it's 4 or 5 weeks at number two but not sure.
October 4, 201113 yr I think Destiny's Child - Lose My Breath was behind a different chart topper for each of it's 4 or 5 weeks at number two but not sure. It was behind different #1s for its first 3 weeks at #2 but the third one carried over into its fourth week.
October 4, 201113 yr Oh Ok then, was from memory so I wasn't sure lol. Can't remember much else lingering at 2 without getting top spot in recent times. I know Frank Chacksfield did it for literally months in 1953 (but with breaks in the run).
October 4, 201113 yr Wasn't Think Twice by Celine Dion #2 for a fair few weeks before its climb to #1?
October 4, 201113 yr Wasn't Think Twice by Celine Dion #2 for a fair few weeks before its climb to #1? Only 3 weeks. it was notable though for how long it took to get to #1 53-42-52-30-28-22-20-9-8-5-6-4-2-2-2-{1}
