Random thought but considering how obsessed we all are with Melodifestivalen, does it not seem a bit strange that we didn't even have a thread for it in 2007? And the final that year was fantastic too! Had there been a thread it would have kickstarted my obsession a year earlier.

I didn't even start paying attention to MF until 2009! We were all very shallow in our attentions to Eurovision in 2007 - I think I picked up all the tracks in March but that was about it!

This. Although I started to listen to Eurovision entries prior to the show in 2008.

I started paying attention to MF in 2008, and I have no idea why it took me so long to take any notice of it!

I know exactly what you mean, I've been a Eurovision obsessive since 2001 but prior to 2008 I really didn't take any notice of national final entries aside from the odd couple that I stumbled across (BWO's Temple Of Love in 2006 for example and Sanna's Vågar Du, Vågar Jag the following year).

I've been listening to the entries prior to the show ever since 2003 actually, but only the confirmed entries - never anything further than that.

It's a shame though, had there been an MF thread here in 2007 I'd have actually sat up and taken notice but nobody posted one, I was obviously oblivious to the fact that it was actually decent  The following tracks would have all made my personal top 10/20; God Morgon, Trying To Recall, What's Your Name, Cara Mia, Live Forever, The Arrival, When The Night Comes Falling, För Att Du Finns, Vågar Du, Vågar Jag, Tror På Dig, I Remember Love and A Little Bit Of Love but instead none of them ever even charted for me, only The Worrying Kind did - because it's the only one that I knew! Completely missed out on a vintage year! I'd wager that Cara Mia, I Remember Love and A Little Bit Of Love would have made my EOY top 40 too...

I'd have spent MONTHS mincing myself senseless over Cara mia! As it was I had to wait until summer 2010 to actually properly pay any attention to it...

It was when I actually went to MF in 2009 that I thought about listening back to the pre-2008 entries, standing in the Globen lobby waiting for the show to begin they were pumping out various MF 'classics' and I pretty much loved every one of them so thought I'd better investigate in full once I got back!

I didn't get that moment until last year when I watched the MF final at the Harcourt Arms off Edgware Road in London (along with råndomfurlöng and the writer of This Must Be Pop, no less!) - afterwards they had a schlagerdisco featuring all the classics like Jag ljuger så bra and Håll om mig. I was ashamed to not know them all off by heart already so I spent the next two months playing catch-up with the last ten years and shoving them all down råndomfurlöng's throat too!

In other 'random 2007 thoughts', aside from the Andorran 2 and the predictable Scandi-votes from Finland, Norway, Iceland and Denmark, the ONLY other country to give The Worrying Kind any points in the final was the UK, we gave 7 to The Ark! Honorary sixth Scandi nation? Probably more likely that the glam-rock struck a chord with a load of aging Adam Ant/70s/rock fans watching  It also charted at #121 in the UK.

Other MF entries to have charted in the UK are Abba's Waterloo (#1), Charlotte Nilsson's Take Me To Your Heaven (#20), Malena Ernman's La Voix (#138), Eric Saade's Popular (#76) and BWO's Lay Your Love On Me (#69), unless I'm forgetting any.

There are SO many that could have been hits here with some promotion - from last year alone there was Me & My Drum, In The Club, My Heart Is Refusing Me and Popular.

Are you going to that this year? I was considering it but I'm not sure I'll have enough money for the train/drinks.

Oh, I should have mentioned that buying the Absolute Schlager compilation whilst in Stockholm eased me into Melodifestivalen history very nicely indeed over the following weeks

I haven't booked it yet, but I doubt it as I'm absolutely SKINT at the moment after shelling out £100 for two weekend train tickets to the Midlands two weeks before and the week after http://www.moopy.org.uk/forums/images/smilies/hurt.gif :(

And the Kopparberg prices were OUTRAGEOUS. The whole thing was sponsored by Kopparberg and you get a free one with the ticket but it's a fiver a bottle thereafter!

How did they cost you that much? Did you not get advance tickets? It's not like the Midlands is THAT far away from you!

Try buying Kopparberg IN Sweden and see if it seems so expensive in comparison then

Youngblood - Youngblood - 8/10

This is good, but it definitely is an inferior copy of Manboy. I wouldn't mind it going further, and it's a definite for at least AC, most likely though this is going DTG.

Maria BenHajji - I mina drömmar - 7/10

This isn't actually that bad! Must better than I expected anyway, but I do admit it's quite dull - I can't remember how it goes after a couple of listens! Definitely going no further, which is probably for the best.

Mattias Andréasson - Förlåt mig - 9/10

Wow, this is great :o It's the kind of male generic pop I love, I really do hope this can go at least AC! I think it could sneak in too!

Love Generation - Just A Little Bit - 8.5/10

I really like this, but I'm disappointed :( It's weaker than Dance Alone and Love Generation imo, but it is really catchy. It's just as a RedOne produced girlband track, I really should love it more! Don't think it's going any further anyway.

Andreas Johnston - LoveLight - 7.5/10

This is pretty good, and I've never really liked anything I've heard from him. It really reminds me of 90s Britpop, but it's also kind of Take That (am I the only one who hears it?), effortlessly catchy! I think it's definitely going at least AC.

Caroline Walin Perez - Sanningen - 3/10

Meh. Totally dull, definite 7th place at best fodder.

Molly Sandén - Why Am I Crying? - 10/10

AMAZING. When I saw Kelly Clarkson comparisons, I was excited but I didn't expect this! It's not topping Euphoria just yet but it's an easy 2nd of the year so far in MF!

Björn Ranelid & Sara Li - Mirakel - 7.5/10

It's good - nice melody, catchy and VERY Eurovision. Bjorn's bits are hilariously bad though, I wouldn't mind if it did sneak into AC but I'd rather have a few others do it.

Prediction:

DTG - Youngblood, Andreas

AC - Molly, Mattias

5th - Bjorn & Sara

6th - Love Generation

7th - Caroline

8th - Maria

Preference:

01 Molly

02 Mattias

03 Love Generation

04 Youngblood

05 Andreas

06 Maria

07 Bjorn & Sara

08 Caroline

EASILY the best of the semis so far overall, I like them all bar Caroline!

I haven't heard the tracks yet, so I'm not to judge, but a bit disappointing that all round Love Generation aren't predicted to make it any further.

Having said that, maybe I'll see why in an hour or so's time.

Not a very spectacular heat at all for me. Lots of nice tracks, but nothing sensational.

Prediction:

DTG: Andreas Johnson & Youngblood

AC: Molly Sandén & Mattias Andréasson

05 Carolina Wallin Pérez

06 Björn Ranelid feat. Sara Li
